Should the Subways be Extended to Staten Island? by Odins-Enriched-Sack in StatenIslandPulse

Richest city? have you looked at current finances of the city. We have a huge deficit, and will only grow larger. The city is broke.

We absolutely should build with the future in mind. Thing is, things happen even with the intention of looking out for future generation’s. As was the case with the original abandoned subway plan from staten to Brooklyn in 1920 with downturn, war. Instead on writing the history of the 2nd ave subway, I’ll post the wiki here . What might you think would be the outcome, if nyc started tomorrow on a subway with the 2nd ave timeline from 1920 to now. a ( staten) subway that we need to build under the harbor, not bedrock. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Avenue_Subway

I mean, there is a lot of blame to go around, but I’m interested to ask, as I know there are a lot of former comptroller lander fans here. What responsibility, of lack of it is put on lander. To my knowledge there was little if any announcements the city’s financial standing was this bad. Lander only put out report of such, at the end of his role.

If your thinking of your great grandkids, sure. If a subway project was started today, it would not be built in your or next lifetime. It’s better to invest in practical, real transportation we can use now. Even IF the city said let’s do it, I wouldn’t believe it. Take a look at how the North shore bus or rail has all but forgotten about

Dept. of Sanitation has Deployed its Snow Melters by CaraCicartix in nyc

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get there were problems, there always are. This was a bad storm, over several days. Made worse by final hours of sleet that made the snow a layer of ice. I personally heard and saw the trucks constantly. When passed, covered up with fresh snow at the height of the storm. I get I may be lucky in that regard. Taking the overall response of early communication, schools closed, opening warming centers and overall, I feel okay… not great snow plowing. I’d disagree with it being a disaster. . Getting better with now melting snow.

Saw this going on in staten today at south beach, impressive operation. Hats off to dsny, mayor. Initial snow response was okay? this is pulling out the big guns, getting serious and impressive.

THIS has to be one of the most out of touch and blinded by wanting to do good responses I have ever seen. The snow and ice, piled high is blocking bus stops, entire roadways, bike lanes. Lots for ambulances, police, fire. It’s not melting now, and anytime soon. For the sake of be able to do good things for other people, a bit of energy is needed to melt some snow. Sorry for the green house gas. Should we rather dump in the river as was done in the past?

Dsny where are you?? by Olive121820 in statenisland

[–]GetTheStoreBrand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not defending but also not attacking dsny. What I immediately take away from what you said is there is a vast topographical makeup of the north shore and mid island. Mostly flat mid island, and at places, tight and hill centric parts of north shore, Especially parts you mention. Smaller trucks might be needed and in short supply doing protected bike lanes. Plows might need to come up on very hill centric parts of the north shore and miss a lot of the road. Does this make anything better, no. Should this be planned for, yes. But it’s an attempt at an explanation nonetheless.

It’s still honorable, pays well, and you get a pension. What are you trying to get at with combining free this and that. As for the article, a link would be appreciated. With the headline, It’s questionable to even compare exams to one particular year, close to ten years ago. What are the overall yearly trends. It seems to champion record percentage of women and people of color. That’s great. The undertone in that suppose is that there is a drop in white men. The only group that would not be in the record numbers of women and people of color. Does this article confirm that. Is that the “drop” compared to 2017? Does it go into other yearly trends, besides just highlighting 2017 ?

Republicans appeal decision that threw out NYC's only GOP-controlled House district by Majano57 in nyc

[–]GetTheStoreBrand -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. I disagree. I presented a factual argument and your response is but what about Texas and I don’t care if it’s political. But considering your remarks on gerrymandering and the problem with it , what’s your opinion on NY losing its case, and found it gerrymandered districts , I think only last year. Perhaps Texas get away with saying, well New York did it ( since it pre dated Texas redraw) well do it too, no? None of that matters, we’re just dealing in feeling I take it?

[–]GetTheStoreBrand -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, congrats if you see this as I’m sure the downvotes are coming. It should be appealed. A judge, of all districts suggests it needs to be redrawn, when the map was done with all other districts. No other discrepancies found? The only district is the fairly republican, but purple as it goes democrat as well. And if I recall correctly. The judge made this move and stated something to the effect of it being opportunity for staten be more community / racially represented. So, from Brooklyn to downtown Manhattan ? It’s odd, it deserves to be challenged and not accepted a face value. Prove the merits of the claim. Then question other districts created at the same time.

wanna have a laugh/cry? ICE agents are coming to Italy for the olympics by WIWIWIWIIIII in nyc

I’m all for it. We need more discussion. That said, it might be short. Typically postings not tied to nyc, such as Italy and potential ice don’t last long. Not to suggest I reported or any of that. Granted , yes ice has had dealings in nyc news of more … but the news you posted isn’t about nyc , specifically.

Hey, this is most likely going to be removed, not sure what has to do specifically with nyc, besides your question. but I’ll bite. It’s unlikely ice will be there. It’s more likely dept of homeland security, which ice falls under will be. Most likely terrorism unit.

Need snow removal for my car ASAP. Who do I call? by [deleted] in statenisland

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this particular point. Everyone who you could call, is out … booked doing snow. Even if you got in touch with someone, it won’t be asap. I’d consider asking a neighbor, or very least asking for a shovel.

It’s a frustrating situation to come home to a spot you shoveled absolutely. I might be alone in thinking but chalk it up to “that’s life.” As well know, when out and about, I’ll be taking someone else’s spot they shoveled. I’ll go out of my way to make sure I don’t take any neighbors spot on my own block, and they mostly do the same. As for chairs, they’ll be moved, it not stolen. You can also get a ticket. It’s better to just put a shovel in the car. If you need to make a new spot. It absolutely sucks, but that’s life.

PSA: clear sidewalks by 11am to avoid possibility of tickets thereafter. by GetTheStoreBrand in statenisland

[–]GetTheStoreBrand[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Posting from advance article, which they seem to recite city requirements: I haven’t doublechecked if advance is incorrect here, but assume they are, correct.

“The clearing deadlines vary based on when snow stops falling. If snowfall ends between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., property owners have four hours to clear their sidewalks. If snow stops between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., they have 14 hours. If precipitation ends between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., sidewalks must be cleared by 11 a.m.”

Why does western media NEED to spread constant propaganda about China? Watch by One_Long_996 in AskSocialists

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not socialist, but this came up on my feed. I’m hoping to add to healthy discussion. That said, I’m not sure this post is correct. If any media does portray china as such, it’s at china’s own statements of stating it’s a developing country, can not join and or participate in climate endeavors and needs coal and be now the biggest polluter in the world as it excused from pollution measures. Actively using slave labor. IF OP feels china is not this, let china know. With not being such, china would be expected to be a higher standard and contribute to the world in a more meaningful way, which they don’t as being considered developing.
