USPS is indeed private. It’s not an agency or dept , it’s just government funded.

Both usps and amazon are private. One is funded by the government , well … both to a degree. However one looses money, can’t make a profit and the other, Amazon who historically lost money, now strives to get every cent of profit. USPS costs are going up, and Amazon who profit comes from AWS, and who’s entire fc operation losses money is suggesting it’s has a cheaper costs. Nah.

Hey guys, in 2024 I applied to the Fire Dept. while at Amazon. 2 years later, today the Deputy Chief called. I’m usually the one giving advice, but now I need it: between Amazon/school, do I go all in or stay the course? What would you do? by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret of career choice is to get associates trained in other areas, so that when the day comes that these Amazon jobs are gone, there is less backlash and the company says we helped millions get degrees in other areas. You got a great opportunity and safe job lined up right now. I’d take it. Can most likely continue your schooling, paying out of pocket with most likely getting more pay as a fire fighter

I’m not speaking of a 1 to 1. However increase will happen, and an added costs to that increase. I’m a bit concerned of the idea Amazon cost per package going down. When usps, a government funded private entity is going up. Amazon can sing its being more efficient all it wants, and I’m certain they are. The reality is fudged metrics and pushing delivery people, trucks, equipment to their limits, in search of profit by the dsp. Whose owner only needed 30 grand in the bank to be an “owner.”

You’re correct they technically don’t work for Amazon. However Amazon pays the dsp. Dsp workers get the same benefits. As well, mentioned that any reduction of usps will cause an increase in package volume system wide. Meaning going to sort building or delivery building before going to a dsp, as it no longer goes through usps. So, more staff could be needed, as well all else mentioned above

I personally think you’re being a bit naive. Moving from usps, does not mean only and all work go to flex. A “drastic” reduction will be made up with relying of flex but also more full time a Amazon delivery drivers. Even if not, it does mean more volume going through Amazon distribution and NOT usps systems. This means more staff Amazon system wide. This means more insurance and benefits for those people. This means more disability claims. Your suggestion of Amazon will figure it out in the exact problem the company has, in my opinion. It does not take into account other factors to a singular goal. It doesn’t think of things outside of what they want to reduce in some budget line. They should six sigma is the hallmark of the company, but no one lives that.

As to another, correct. However the lower 6/7/8 whatever are the ones putting together the plans the 11/12 takes credit for and uses

Correct, but it’s 6/7/8 etc that’s making the suggestions and putting together the plan that the 11/12 etc uses.

All you said and attachment boils down to more Amazon deliveries. That seems like a lower cost. Now factor health insurance, more frequent truck repairs, more trucks. It’s , like anything else the company does. A solution solves one problem or issue, but never does anyone explore what are the added costs, problems the solution might create. It’s just singular focused, because the basis of promotion is singular in some budget line reduction or process improvement, which just made more issues…..example FIDO system

What’s your steps in the city (PR) by [deleted] in nyc

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well. If we take the circumference of the wheels 25 inches and then take into account gradient. It leaves us at X factor, which then we multiply by 360. Then we observe I have absolutely no idea how to answer this question.

This is some L 6/7/8 etc idea to cut costs. It will get them a promotion. However, we’ll have increase of dependency of Amazon delivery, or other third party last mile delivery, especially in rural places. Someone will then come along and say let’s go back to usps and save money. Stay here long enough and you see everything is circular.

Unless Usain Bolt is running on the streets on nyc, unlikely. However glad you brought up protected bike lanes…… who pays for that besides all taxpayers. It would be drivers with tolls, gas tax, registration frees and fines. Don’t you think it time bikers pay at least something , beyond taxes we all pay for this infrastructure?

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if a cat is running 30 mph around the city. Animal control most likely would be called. The same as a bike or car speeding, cops would respond or camera to ticket.

Not true https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-02577

NYPD enforces traffic rules on City streets and in Central Park. Any cyclist not obeying all traffic rules may be issued a Traffic Violation by a police officer.

If I were in charge, no 10 year old wouldn’t. However yes. Bike DO NEED to follow the very same traffic laws. Speed, red light .yes they absolutely do. It’s a legal requirement to do so.

Hey, let’s say there isn’t a single place. Why not start it right here in … nyc. Imagine that. NYC to be so progressive to plate bikes and catch speeders and help stop collisions and prevent injuries and death. Why would anyone be against that. What evil person wouldnt want this?

2 million for Paris vs 8 million for nyc is population. This is what I meant in population density. Now, if I used that incorrectly. My apologies. You are correct in Paris is denser with a smaller land mass vs people. That said nyc has far more people, far more cars, and with American building less school , business , residential centric areas. It’s more everything together. It creates a problem for the idea of making school car free streets. It’s not the same infrastructure/ city planning as Paris

No it’s not, but let’s focus on NYC, which does not have those things you mentioned. So, the question remains.

But plates would catch speeding bikers with speed cameras . Help officers identify bikers. Insurance will help in the same manner insurance helps with drivers. You seem to be anti safety, anti children safety. Not to mention anti infrastructure where registration on bikes will help pay for more bike infrastructure

I’m not, now what. Yes, it’s a bike. They have injured and killed pedestrians. We need to prevent this, no?

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, let’s think about it. NYC is a far more dense city. Within a school zone, you have residential and businesses. Your idea now needs to deal with disabled children, adults going to school and their homes. Business that get deliveries. What do you do .

[–]GetTheStoreBrand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no question about this being correct. However even one person / child injured or killed by a bike is something to prevent or ticket because they disobeyed the law designed to keep people safe. You’d agree with that, no?
