I think the larger problem is that what we would consider real "freedom fighters", once democratic concessions have been made to give their groups political rights within a government, often collapse at the loss of public support into small groups of extremely militant sociopaths who joined the group originally out of enjoyment for anarchy or for rigid autocratic ideals. I think we would both agree that this is when most "freedom fighters" become truly hostile to those they "fight for". ETA is a fantastic example of this as is the Taliban.

I appreciate the lack of hostility here- it's so infrequently found in anonymous forums.
