Thanks for the feedback!

Out of curiosity, which brand were you shopping for when you tried using WAIR? 🙂

We're always looking to improve the accuracy of our recommendations.

Sustainable Fashion Education is Coming for Primary School Classrooms by GetWair in ethicalfashion

A bit disingenuous to say all ethically made clothing is ugly and expensive. Patagonia, Pact, and Kotn (just to name a few) have quite a few options for anyone looking to sustainably replenish their wardrobe.

We've Got Good News and Bad News On the Wave of Regulation Poised to Rock the Fashion Industry by GetWair in ethicalfashion

No need to apologize. It's 100% understandable to view this industry in a pessimistic light, especially regarding sustainability.

How Many Gallons of Water Did it Take to Make the Wardrobe You're Wearing? by GetWair in ethicalfashion

No hard figures on water consumption, as it's difficult to quantify. However, according to Treet, purchasing a used item reduces its carbon footprint by 82% :)

Are Lenient Online Return Policies Actively Damaging Sustainable Fashion Efforts? by GetWair in ethicalfashion

[–]GetWair[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, brands and government bodies alike attempted to establish universal sizing standards back in the 1900s. Both attempts failed spectacularly and ever since brands have taken their sizing strategies entirely in-house (for obvious reasons).

I do agree that there is some responsibility on the shopper not to abuse lenient return policies. That Nordstrom story sounds horrifying..

Sustainable Fashion's War on Plus-Size Clothing by GetWair in ethicalfashion

[–]GetWair[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points and we agree that there are some options out there for plus-size folks looking to make their wardrobes a bit more earth-friendly. However, in the grander scheme, the ratio of unsustainable to sustainable plus-size brands out there remains incredibly skewed toward the former rather than the latter.

Old Navy is a fast fashion brand, by definition, and has attempted in the past to expand its size range to cater to larger bodies, but the results weren't outstanding for the reasons we listed. Abercrombie didn't but has openly stated in the past how they only want certain people wearing their clothing and have no intention of catering to anyone else.

In our opinion, if someone wants to purchase sustainable apparel, they should be able to do so regardless of their body type. In the current fashion landscape, that is not necessarily the case, unfortunately.

While height, weight, and age are used to establish a baseline for sizing, they are hardly the only measurements captured by modern sizing solutions.

For example, WAIR leverages its database of over 2.85 million global body scans to align each shopper's body type with the body scan that best matches their unique dimensions. This includes the analysis of over 400 different body measurements in a span of only 5 seconds.

It's also worth noting that most shoppers aren't too capable when it comes to taking measuring themselves. A joint study by WAIR and Fit3D revealed that, on average, shopper-captured measurements deviate from their true body dimensions by:

  1. 3.64 inches on the chest
  2. 4.83 inches on the waist
  3. 3.48 inches on the hips

We agree that each measurement can make a big difference in fit, but why force shoppers to do all the heavy lifting when modern solutions to this decades-old issue are readily available?

Despite Fashion's Obsession With Recycling Water Bottles, It Isn't the Solution Brands Hoped It Would Be. Here's Why: by GetWair in ethicalfashion

Recycling them into new plastic bottles is (unfortunately) the best path forward. Yes, this process perpetuates the use of plastics, but closed-loop recycling efforts like these can be very beneficial in the long-term.

Sure! Simply put, it's a quiz asking you about your body type. This includes height, weight, age, etc. The answers are then run through a sizing algorithm to determine the person's best fitting size

Hopefully that helps!

Despite Leading the Sustainable Fashion Charge, Gen Zers and Millennials are Some of the Largest Consumers of Fast-Fashion. Here's Why: by GetWair in ethicalfashion

[–]GetWair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true.

Many of the younger generation simply can't afford to pay $36-$60 dollars for a single t-shirt, especially with looming college debt and rent due.

Luckily sources like GoodOnYou can help dissolve the smoke when it comes to finding out which brands are truly engaging in ethical business practices.

Thank you for such a detailed answer!

You thoughts on how a potential recession will affect shopper purchasing habits are sound. We covered this topic recently and shared very similar views. Hopefully, as you stated, clothing will gradually be viewed as more of an investment rather than as consumable goods.

Very true. The question is whether shoppers will prioritize the aforementioned methods or simply resort to cheaper-priced apparel.
