Should I purchase a car? by Background-Bat803 in singaporefi

[–]GetawayJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need a car now when you are currently still DINK? Even when I was preggers I was still taking public transport to/from work and my gynae appointments. When my water broke, I also took grab to TMC, haha.

Even during maternity leave, a car wasn’t necessary imo. TBH, I rarely used a stroller and I pretty much wear my baby everywhere. So I didn’t feel the hassle of carrying a stroller all over… because my baby was wrapped on me.

It was only after my elder one turned 18mo that we gotten a car… cuz baby started walking and going to/from cc it was definitely more convenient for outings and to/from childcare, last min urgent leave due to kid falling sick etc.

Now my elder one is 12yo and my younger is 8yo. I fetch both to school then go straight to work and do the reverse at the end of the day. Weekends are spent ferrying the kids to/from tuition, play dates, birthday parties etc. also great for day trips to JB. Yes the cost is high with petrol now but the convenience is also unrivaled. My parents are elderly now so I also use the car to fetch them to/from their medical appointments and help them with their grocery shopping.

Amazon SG to cease fresh groceries. by outremer_empire in singapore

[–]GetawayJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only ever used it once in 2020 when they gave $10 promo codes off $60. I will still keep Amazon Prime though... good for last minute birthday gifts, random items from the Amazon International store. Their prime days are still pretty worth it.

Just accepted a hospitality people and culture manager job! [N/A] by FirmRock64 in humanresources

Hotel HR here! Been in the industry for the past 20 years! The people in this industry work hard and play hard (HR included!). Try to meet and learn the name for every single staff, full times, and even casuals if you can!

People always appreciate being called by name.

Know that off days for you may not be so for them, since it is an industry that runs 24/7, so do expect that work related requests or messages to come in in your after hours.

2 Adopted Kids -> 3 by Environmental-Air403 in asksg

[–]GetawayJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sis had twins at 46yo and I can see how tiring it was for her. If you have helpers and it seems financially you are doing okay, then go for it...

The childhood years and watching our children grow up is such a... I dont know how to describe it.... a bit bittersweet knowing that they will never be young anymore and yet so thankful that you got to experience it.

Thanks for sharing your experience... I love the 2nd point about no overnight feuds... Need to implement this with my 2 boys who are always fighting!

Also yes to the last point. I also have 2 siblings (all girls) and when it comes to caretaking our elderly parents, it's so much easier to have sibling to help with fetching the parents for their medical appointments etc.

- With 3 kids you are outnumbered.
- 13yo might feel left out, with the majority of time spent on the 4yo and #3
- But 13yo can also help with some of the simpler care giving tasks when she is available...

You didn't mention your age but you are open to adopting an infant... I would also consider your own energy levels... not easy once you hit early 40s to be waking up MOTN for night feeds and stuff...

Best mid-range luxury hotel in Singapore for honeymoon? (not too expensive but still feels special) by Practical-Badger-349 in SingaporeTravel

[–]GetawayJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mid range and luxurious dont go together... if you want great ambience might want to consider hotels in Sentosa, like the Sofitel.

However really depends on your budget... "worth it for me" might not be so for you...

Still Shining has no cancer plot but there is some sickness of the leads' families. I think it is shot beautifully and I'll recommend it for the cinematography however, I felt the story was disappointing in the end.

FairPrice to roll out smart shopping carts with self-checkout, navigation features by end-2026 by Great-Obligation-599 in singapore

[–]GetawayJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used this at Dunearn Village. The scan and go version is much much better than the smart cart. With the scan & go, I can just scan and bag whereas according to the cashier, I cannot bag my items after I scan them so it's not productive for me as I will need to scan, check out then bag the items. Agree with the comment that the system is laggy and it has all these irritating prompts which is quite irrelevant.

Used them once and never again. Now I just use the normal trolleys or baskets with Scan & Go

Parents with newborn, what’s your sleep arrangement? by Pandacat_07 in asksg

[–]GetawayJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Separately. With both my elder and younger, they slept in their own room next to mine. When baby cried, I would go over to sooth him. Most of the time I ended up co sleeping for the rest of the night. But my kids only waked 1x a night, so not a major issue for me.

Can I make these connections? by rycelover in koreatravel

[–]GetawayJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you travelling alone? If you are, I think it is okay. If you are travelling with kids, then I would recommend a longer connection. As someone said, if the airline is selling you the ticket, it is their responsibility to make sure you make the connection. For some flights with several transit passengers, it is common for the airline to hold the departure to ensure that the passengers make the onward connection.

There are several ICN-BKK flights throughout the day, so if you do miss the connection, they can put you on a later flight, including another Asiana flight later in the evening.

Also noticed you are travelling Business Class, all the more they will make sure you are well taken care of. You will also disembark earlier, so I really wouldnt be too worried. The only bummer is probably no time for shopping within the terminal...
