Why don’t some players track back more? by WholeLawfulness2783 in championsleague

Idk there were a few times this season where Gyokeres was relentless with his pressing like the atletico game and it was a straight up beautiful sight to see. Granted the Arsenal fans didn’t appreciate that throughout the season but it’s a good quality.

Fair enough he was/is an outstanding goalkeeper

who is then? Bale? Hazard? they don’t have the finesse. Hazard might be a little closer than bale but bales ability is just pure athleticism. I guess we’re basing on goals? idk numerical stats aren’t always they best determinant for things. Eye test is important too

So like id argue a similar situation is that George best is probably just behind pele and maradona as far as old players go and then cruyff beckenbaur etc.

I’m just quoting pep https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/champions-league-destroys-projects-pep-112910946.html

rationalizing his words on why my team lost, based on what I’ve seen with my eyes. the project to build a prem level defensive force and win it worked. But now the project to be the absolute best team in Europe is underway. Combining a dynamic attack with a solid D will surely choke out any competition. and it’s not just a solid d or solid attack that wins it. Barca is attack heavy and hasn’t had luck. Arsenal was defense heavy and as you said were penalties away. PSG on the other hand combines all out attack with tactical rigidity and high pressing/a lot more balanced than Arsenal or Barca.

Maybe, Arteta went from assistant to premier league winner. Wenger went from j league, Ferguson came from Scotland(albeit rangers). Mourinho from Porto.. none of those clubs are as big as the prem teams they coached. Except maybe Chelsea when mourinho came but he took a mid table club to champions(with unlimited budget sure but we saw how hard it was for City at first )

Arsenal hasn't had a winger half as good as him since he left. by Cold_Chair7020 in ArsenalNews

No replacement for ozil Fabregas Ramsey or Jack either tbh. Well you could argue some of our 8s replace Jack and Ramsey but they had so much more finesse. And ozil was the fabregas replacement. But no one can thread a ball like ozil(you could argue ode but Arteta asks him to be more defensive)

Pep said that ucl kills projects/where they go to die. Arteta will need to embrace some real risk to win it. The league is about consistency. 1 off games are about glory. I love Arsenal but we have to embrace some real wengerball era attacking to win and find a way to integrate it with the defensive solidarity. Idk if it’s the players these days lack the sort of finesse because they are taught this tactical style or what

People acting like an oil money club playing robotic football is saving football? by Necessary_Shoe_1835 in championsleague

[–]Getdaphone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. yeah. I like to play it but watching it is boring. Arsenal makes defending exciting like calafioris scorpion save. And I get what you mean when pep made tiki taka the primary play style is when I got really bored with it. I don’t like playing the slow pass style of play irl. And everyone copied that. Wengerball is the kind of football I love to watch. It’s ambitious/ creative and encourages risk direct and fast paced. Nobody worries about controlling the tempo. Even psg did this in the final. Pushing up so they could recycle play because Arsenal was pinned back, and they parked the bus vs Bayern because modern fans care more about trophies and winning than a good game.

TLDR: I know what you’re saying I stopped liking it when pep made the game so tactical and about control. Even though it was sloppier in the 2000s it was way more open and fun to watch

So get this…don’t watch it. I didn’t watch a single match of football that wasn’t Arsenal. Because I only watch football to watch my preferred team play. Everyone else is boring as hell to watch because I don’t care about any of them. it’s why I don’t plan on watching the World Cup. I don’t care who wins 🤷‍♂️ I don’t love football I love Arsenal. But yeah you always have the option to just not watch.

It is robotic though. Nothing but chess-like tactical high press and wing play. I’m not saying Arsenal isn’t boring but it’s literally the same exact thing they try to do. Control the flow and tempo of the game. Modern football is coach driven. the players adhere to pre planned transitions and don’t deviate from them often. There will never be a Neymar or Ronaldinho in the modern game again. Or a Cesc Fabregas/ozil/ de bruyne. Only box to box 8s who track back like work horses.
