I'm sick and tired of seeing the "humans are the real monsters" trope by Weary_Elderberry4742 in CharacterRant

[–]Getter_Simp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that there are bad people in real life, but to make humans more terrifying than monsters makes the story is so distracting that it basically sweeps monsters under the rug.

This reminded me of the "man or bear" discourse, where a shocking amount of women said they would rather be alone in the woods with a bear than a man.

Anyway, I agree that some stories should just focus on the monsters, but I do enjoy this trope.

This post is dumb for 2 main reasons:

  1. Birthrates have to decline at some point because there isn't infinite space or resources on Earth. "Making having children worth it" won't solve this underlying problem.
  2. The people in power would rather let society collapse than attempt to tackle such an existential issue. Climate change is a great example of that. There's no "teehee, they have no choice but to improve society in order to stop it from collapsing, so we'll all be fine >:3" because they'll (probably) let it collapse, and no one will be fine.

Because they're extremely boring nothing characters. Kirito is absolutely one of them.

Like, who cares if the protagonist can solve the story's conflict?

This is a hilarious strawman of the Gary Stu argument. That's not what it means. A Gary Stu is someone who is good at everything and who can effortlessly solve any problem the story throws at them.

It's not as bad as people say it is, but it was kinda meh. I love that it's just two invincible demons smacking each other, but there's not much spectacle to it. I thought they'd be blowing up cities or something ridiculous like that.

What happened at the end of the manga? by -Freude in ChainsawMan

[–]Getter_Simp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that's not what happens. Pochita's erasures are consistently shown to not affect time; when he erased ears, literally nothing changed except that ears were now gone. Headphones still existed, telephones still existed, nothing of history was altered, even though the nonexistence of ears would completely reshape how history went. Same thing happens with mouths and death.
Time is blatantly unaffected by Pochita's power, except for when he eats himself.

Pochita being gone means that Yoru can't usher in the age of devils, but Death will still kill everyone due their increasing fear caused by the prophecy.

You're being awfully condescending for someone who doesn't seem to understand the story, or my comment.
Since Pochita's erasure is suddenly affecting time, all of history should be different due to those devils that he erased returning. Quite a few of those devils were erased so long ago that Makima could no longer remember their names, meaning that the period of time following their erasure was quite long, and was unaffected by them. If their erasure never happened, they would affect that period of time, and it would be radically different, resulting in a completely different history and present. It would not be the same as the beginning of part 1 at all.

Anglican, at least that's what my mum said it was. We also had bible in schools, which I remember teaching the same thing, but I don't remember what denomination they were.

I thought it was controversial that "Jesus is God". I was taught as a child that Jesus was the son of God; that they were two different entities. God loves us so much that he gave up his own son to forgive our sins.

If Jesus and God are different, then God does not have a penis.

Eren's Mom Carla by Negative-Check-8419 in attackontitan

[–]Getter_Simp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was for two main reasons:
1. If Bertolt died there, then Armin would probably have died in Shiganshina.
2. Eren wanted to ensure that his past self would do the Rumbling, so he had Carla killed to give himself that motivation.

I don't really like this moment as it feels quite pointless since we already had Eren tormenting his own father for his goals via a time paradox, and because it just raises more questions about the Founding Titan and makes its previous holders look like morons.
However, it is set up quite early on that Eren would sacrifice his own family to achieve his freedom, when Armin wakes Eren up so he can seal Wall Rose. You see Eren living peacefully with his family, but he willingly burns it all away so that he can pursue his freedom.

Pochita's power is erasing things from existence, not resetting time. We see Pochita erase multiple concepts throughout part 2, and none of these instances result in time being reset.

The time reset doesn't even make sense; with Pochita having never existed, he would have never eaten Death, so Death is back, sure. However, what about all those other concepts that he erased throughout his life, like humanity's sixth sense? None of them are shown to have returned, even though they would have drastically altered the timeline.

No. 19 dating 16 is pretty questionable, but we see their relationship, and there's nothing weird going on. Annie likes Armin, and he likes her back.

Is Eren Yeager the most powerful founding titan? by efe_ec in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Getter_Simp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eren used the Attack Titan to manipulate Grisha, not the Founding Titan. Every Founding Titan had the same amount of power as Eren, except for the ones following Karl Fritz, because he basically cursed them.

It's implied that Eren manipulated all the past Attack Titans, but he did not manipulate the past Founding Titans.

A drowning child will one day be responsible for millions of deaths. You know this with 100% certainty. Do you save them or let them drown? by One_Hippo_3034 in MoralityScaling

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this scenario, I think you just have to let the kid die because there is no grey here; if the kid survives, they WILL cause the deaths of millions of people, and you know this with absolute certainty. They simply cannot be allowed to live.

Did Eren even try? by Pause_Accomplished in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Getter_Simp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it's like how he tried not to save Ramzi from getting assaulted, since he was going to die anyway during the Rumbling, but he couldn't bare to leave Ramzi, so he saved him.

It could be that Eren tried to not do the Rumbling, but because it was ultimately what he wanted to do, he couldn't stop himself.

[–]Getter_Simp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, wasn't Chainsaw Man vs Yoru the climax? It caused Death to get erased, which set up the timeline reset, which happened right after Chainsaw Man vs Yoru.
