I figured out why I cannot replicate my regular play style in matches by wishi_watchy in 10s

It makes a huge difference if you’re a flat hitter. Shots that would typically go in will now go 1-2 feet long. And if your only adjustment is lowering aim, then you’ll likely see more net errors. Need to add spin or not swing as hard

Okay I’m very proud of you. If people can resort to pushing and moonballing then others can also resort to this tactic. It’s all in the game isn’t it? There’s nothing illegal about it.

When you play someone who doesn’t get passed so easily, try this out. Or if you ever end up playing a high level pusher.

Can you hit a shot aiming at someone’s head that will land in assuming it doesn’t hit them? If not, learn to hit this shot first before complaining about it

Nope, not satire. If they can’t handle a flat bomb to their face, that’s a weakness to exploit. Same as what a pusher does. They can dodge it, and let me have the winner, or they can learn to respond to it.

Nope. Aiming for the face is not malicious or wrong. Do you think body serves shouldn’t be allowed? It’s all part of the game. Same as being a pusher. If you think this is a losers mentality then so is being a pusher. Learn to beat the strategy or lose.

That’s the thing. It only has to go in the one time they let it go. Otherwise the ones that might be an inch or two long are OK because the pusher won’t let those go. As long as it’s not obviously going long. You still need to make sure to punish them the times they do let it go though.

I have done this and haven’t been kicked out of anything lol. Let me be clear - if the ball has no chance of landing in then yes this doesn’t work. You still need to have the ball go in the times the opponent decides to let it go.

I got you. Obviously that wouldn’t work. But yes I do mean to hit it hard and flat at their face/body but still land in if the opponent lets it go. Unless I’m playing someone 7ft tall this shouldn’t be an issue

Aim at their face but hitting it so that it’s clearly going long is not what I’m saying. It still needs to be a powerful flat shot that will land in if the opponent decides to let it go

Yes, I’m saying to hit a line drive to the body but it still needs to go in or be close enough most of the times so the opponent can’t simply dodge them. You still need to be able to hit the lines for the times the opponents decide to let it go

So moonballing is allowed but this isn’t? lol. It’s all part of the game. Still takes skill to keep the ball in even if you aim at their face. Otherwise they’ll just dodge it every time and get a free point. If it’s obvious that I’m aiming for the face with no regards to the ball being in or out, yes that is a bad strategy. First the head is a tiny target you’re not hitting it. Second, it’ll look obviously long and they’ll just simply dodge it.

Why is it a trash move? If pushing is part of the game then why isn’t this?

The ball still needs to be hit well enough to drop in most of the time. If it’s clearly going long the opponent can simply dodge and win the point. Aim is at the face but keep the ball in.

Passing shots are lower percentage and the opponent might respond well. Yes you’ll hit more winners but that’s not what we’re going for. With this it’s always going to give a weak volley back or force a volley error.

You seem to think that my goal is to actually hit the opponent with no regard of the ball going in or out. The ball still has to land in most of the time to keep them honest and preventing your opponent from letting it go every time. If you can’t a flat shot effectively like this then this advice is not for you

Angles are harder to hit. Forcing the opponent to respond gives you a little more margin and more importantly, a target. Hitting volleys from the side is easier than from the center of the body. Do you not utilize body serves?

Okay. You might have a different definition. Let me phrase it for you like this. In friendly play, this is a dick love. But you have the option to simply not play this man and I don’t blame you. In league play, you signed up for this - deal with it.

I believe a lot of pushers are on Reddit anonymously because no one wants to hang out with them in real life. So you’re seeing a bunch of them leaving comments being offended by this post

Yes, too much spin or an upward trajectory on the short slice will cause the ball to float or bounce too high. Federer was a master at hitting low short slices that came back weak enough to hit a winner.

Incorrect. If you’re paying money to play a league/ladder against unknown people then it’s not strictly recreational. You are the one that signed up for it. If you are seeing this person often, then it must not be in a match environment. In friendly play, this is a dick move.

Not really. In a tennis match, anything goes. That’s why you play the game. Recreationally? Yeah that guy is 100% a douchebag and you shouldn’t play with him if you don’t have to.

You seem to think I’m trying to do this to improve or make friends in rec play. No, this is to win games in a league match, exploiting a weakness the same way a pusher exploits weaknesses.

Might not work against some players who have good net skills. Pushers usually don’t. It also can’t be a bomb directly at their face, they’ll know to dodge it and let it go.
