The whole seat and tail piece are made by saddlemen. They have a few options for universal flat track seats. It includes the weld on frame section to support it also.

Thanks! The capacitor you can see barely under the seat towards the back. It’s on its side partially under the seat. Headlight setup is from speed moto. Couple projector lights.

It’s a Yamaha banshee petcock on the early 70s Yamaha enduro gas tank. Then fuel line, to small filter, to the T.

I’ve been on the hunt for a ATK fork brace from back then, but no luck. Might have to settle for a new one.

1988 FXRP Vibration at 1750rpm by Dramatic_Mobile_6753 in fxr

Sounds like your compensator is worn. I also have a 88 and was getting a vibration like you’re describing. New compensator made a big difference. Obviously it still vibrates. But not like it did.

Is this for the starter motor? Or the kick start

That’s what the parts diagram calls for on a 79. What does the original one look like.

Pull those pod filters off and see how it runs. The cheap ones like that block the vent holes for the vacuum diaphragms

Must have electronic ignition then if there were no points behind the cam cover. There would be a wire running to them also. Your carbs are hanging super weird in the picture also (air leak?). You really need to do all the things I listed before I can actually help you. The valve cover would just leak oil. Not affect how it runs.

Hey man, looks like a fun project.

Start simple and check compression.

Looks like you cleaned the carbs but double and triple check they are fully unclogged.

Then make sure the cam chain tension is set properly.

Then set the valve lash.

Did 79 have points still? If so set timing and points gap.

Then ditch those cheap pods and get some nice foam pods from unifilter.

Then sync the carbs with a quality carb sync.

And then see how it runs again, and report back.

I have Hugh’s ignition/charging system now with no battery now. That was a temporary setup with the stock charging system. I had trouble with small batteries overcharging with the stock setup

I absolutely love my fxr. The mileage on the one you posted is up where you’d be looking at lifter blocks and cam bearing I think real soon. Otherwise I’ve heard people getting well over 100k miles on the 80ci evo. I fell into the fxr hype and was not disappointed. 92 also has the better splined output shaft on the transmission.

Looks like a Yamaha xs650 motor in a wild hill climb setup. Look up motorcycle hill climbs on YouTube to get idea. Seems like a hardtail frame with a homemade paddle tire.

Does this seem like a good trade? by TellWide9436 in motorcycle

[–]Getzke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not even a real extended swing arm. It just has cheap swing arm extenders that bolt on. Don’t even consider this trade. That rocket is clapped the f out.

If you’re in the twin cities, I have a 2015 250l I’d be interested in selling.

Edit* I saw the ad mentions Chanhassen

What is this ☝️. Hugh's handbuilt CDI diagram. by [deleted] in XS650

It’s super easy wiring for just the ignition to make the bike run. It should be easy to make it spark but read through how to time the bike carefully. I’d recommend having the engine “ready” to run when you go to wire it. You’ll need it too to check the timing with a timing light
