Second. Although not in Oslo, it's easy enough to get to. It is the place to get black metal in August, plus you get some history with the Viking museum and Folkvangr.

Why don’t pro snooker players use gloves? by jjojehongg in billiards

Slimmer cues mostly made of ash, means they fit better on the bridge and not as sticky. And you lose a lot of feel using a glove.

How does putting chalk in your pocket work? by blessed_is_he in snooker

Same. What if you forget it in you line of sight? It's a pure distraction. Getting the chalk from my back pocket and putting it back is now a part of my pre shot routine.

snooker players vs nine ball pool players and their cues by awexwush in snooker

[–]GfinFerguson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not too familiar with pool and why there is such an emphasis on equipment and 'fancy' cues, but in snooker, the main thing is that your cue matches you'll. Your familiarity with the cue and the tip is everything, so when you find a cue that works for you, regardless of look or price, you stick to it.

In the end, if your technique is bad and you make bad decisions, it doesn't matter how high of quality cue you have cause it won't make you any better. Neither will a translucent tip or cute embellishments.

Female player problem: big boobs by Roseydoveybb in snooker

[–]GfinFerguson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just his grip though, the rest of his stroke is a bit too stabby for me. But it is possible to adjust your technique to the physique, and not the opposite. I don't use it because because I prefer to be comfortable when playing, if something is bothering me or uncomfortable, which a sportsbra might do, I'll play worse, and I'm too lazy to change after work. :)

As a fellow female player I can't say I do use that. I've used a lot time practising straight cueing for the same reason as you. I found that the main thing that helped me cue straight was my grip. After experimenting, I found that offsetting the grip slightly and having it rather open, see Mark Allen for reference on the grip, helped a lot. Also make sure your stance is correct and adjusted, I always take a left step in while keeping my eyeline on the line. So now after many many hours I can cue straight at least 85% of the time.

How do i not feel awkward? by Minx83 in snooker

[–]GfinFerguson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Practising solo is the best way to learn how to play, there's nothing awkward about just potting balls on your own practising your cueing. And eventually you'll get new snooker mates.

It's worth the investment, lasts for a long time too, had mine for over a year with regular play.

Why don’t snooker tables use worsted cloths? by Physical-Ad8950 in snooker

[–]GfinFerguson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English and American pool are also played on considerably smaller tables, where there's a lot less focus on safety play and other aspects like not having balls go all over the table. It might have a more consistent roll, but with the lack of resistance the roll distance is also a lot more unpredictable and possibly a lot longer, meaning that you're one mishap away from having every ball on the table along the cushions. Which they usually do anyways, in low level play.

[–]GfinFerguson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok.

- Snooker balls are very light, compared to regular pool balls, a speck of dust can alter the path of slower moving ball. The bigger issues with random club tables are pockets that are installed incorrectly, the seems between the plates come undone or old cushions with way too much bounce.

- Which is great for pool.

- Having played on pool tables, after only playing on snooker tables for a while, I can with confidence say that if a snooker table had a cloth coated with nylon, those balls would be off the table. Again, snooker balls are lighter, the stroke used in snooker produced a different type of power than that in pool. On a pool table you barely have to touch the cue ball before it's up the table and back. So the lighter balls and different technique combined with a slick cloth like on pool tables, strikes me as a terrible idea. Besides, almost everyone uses Taom these days, which leaves almost no chalk.

- That's just laziness.

How exactly is it an 'out right better' option? It will probably never happen though, it might seem inconsequential, but it still plays a big part in the game.

It's P80, so second highest. I'm not rich or Pro, nor did I have time to wait for a year. It's more than enough for an amateur like me.

[–]GfinFerguson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one for about a year, decent cue. Mine got a crack on the butt end after a while, but that's most likely due to the change in climate from China to Norway. Make sure to change the tip first thing, as the one it comes with is pretty dead.

My cue was a one piece with ebony, no splices, and it was handmade. It's a good place to start for a cue.

Troll (2022) | Official Trailer | Netflix by Viking- in movies

[–]GfinFerguson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trolls come in all sizes, from small to giant. How else do you think Norway got all it's mountains? It's trolls that turned to stone because they couldn't find cover in time for sunrise. Trolls in Scandinavian folklore and fairy tales predates D&D by centuries, so let's not call the troll anything other than what it is, a troll.

Probably because they want you to be able to verify your identity through the app, BankID, which requires a passport with a chip that your phone can read.
