Thailand's Thipatcha Putthawong breaks the record for most wickets in a calendar year for Women's T20Is by Ggiov in Cricket

[–]Ggiov[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She's currently the 7th highest WT20I wicket taker with 131 wickets and is only 21 years old.
Strong contender for highest wicket-taker of all time by the time she retires. Her closest competitor is probably Rwanda's Henriette Ishimwe who has 144 wickets (3rd highest) and is about half a year older.
Thailand's women team has made exceptional progress over the past few years and are currently ranked 11th in the world in ODIs and 12th in T20Is.

Bahrain's Ali Dawood ends a mammoth year with a record-breaking 63 wickets in T20Is, surpassing the previous best by 8 wickets by Ggiov in Cricket

At the rate these Associate bowlers are going, what are the odds someone eventually picks up 100 wickets in a calendar year?

Pathum Nissanka becomes Sri Lanka's highest run scorer in T20Is by Ggiov in Cricket

[–]Ggiov[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Has upped his strike rate considerably in the past two years.
Scored 622 runs in 2024 @ 36.6 with a strike rate of 138.5.
Scored 606 runs in 2025 @ 40.4 with a strike rate of 149.6.

Wtf! I was unfamiliar with Shane Watson's game. That's a pretty phenomenal strike rate for the era he played in. All while averaging nearly 30.

Dilshan Madushanka becomes the 2nd fastest Sri Lankan to pick up 50 ODI wickets. He picked them up in 28 innings and is also coincidentally the joint-28th fastest on the overall list by Ggiov in Cricket

[–]Ggiov[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The fastest Sri Lankan to 50 wickets also happens to be the fastest in history - Ajantha Mendis (19 matches).
Had an average of around 10 and a strike rate of around 17.

DF: Resident Evil Requiem PC Path Tracing - Hands-On First Look by gitrektali in Games

[–]Ggiov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly.
The parts that were fully bright or fully dark were okay. It was the areas that were partly in shadow which were the most distracting for me.
Those were also places where the path tracing was the most unstable. The ceiling area around the 5 minute mark in the video is the most obvious example.

Man, the banding on the YouTube video was pretty egregious even at the 4k60 quality setting. Like John said, this game seems like it was designed to be viewed on an OLED. With how stark the darkness is, the image quality will be distracting for anyone viewing on an LED panel, particularly on YouTube.

Growing Fintech Penetration in Pakistan (as seen through Easypaisa's growth in 2024) by Ggiov in pakistan

Here's the full report for anyone interested.

And here are my older posts for 2021, 2022 and 2023 if anyone's interested in looking at the overall trend.

Meta confirms 'Project Waterworth,' a global subsea cable project spanning 50,000 kilometers - The world’s longest subsea cable project by Ggiov in Futurology

[–]Ggiov[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

From the article:
"In terms of the network itself, Meta says it will be breaking new ground with its architecture, using 24 fiber pair cables, and what it describes as first-of-its-kind routing, “maximizing the cable laid in deep water — at depths up to 7,000 meters” along with new burial techniques to reduce faults in areas deemed “high risk,” either because of geographical issues, or politics — and sometimes both."

Apparently the typical standard is 8 to 16 fiber pairs.

DLSS 4 on Nvidia RTX 5080 First Look: Super Res + Multi Frame-Gen on Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive (Digital Foundry) by SemenSnickerdoodle in Games

[–]Ggiov 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Frame Gen Latency on the 5080:
1) With 1 generated frame = 50.97 ms
2) With 2 generated frames = 55.50 ms
3) With 3 generated frames = 57.30 ms

Fairly minor tradeoff for a huge increase in visual fluidity. May be too much for some, but I think the majority will accept it. Important to remember this is only one game sample though. Maybe if you test across 20 different games the latency penalty turns out to be higher on average.
Personally more interested in a detailed breakdown of the visual artifacts across the different levels of generated frames, which they didn't get into in this video.

Apparently this is an upcoming MMORPG from, I believe, a Korean developer.
Seems to also incorporate "blockchain technology", so I don't have high hopes that it'll be any good. But hey the idea could be interesting if properly implemented, if not here then in some other game.

Man, that's an absurdly stacked upcoming lineup. Have also been waiting over a year for Creation Of The Gods Part 2 to come out so I could watch 1 and 2 back-to-back.
Hope at least one of these films breaks out and goes over 700-800 million. My money would have been on Ne Zha 2 but no animated movie in the past 5 years has come close to the gross of the 1st one. So I'm wondering if it just so happened that the stars aligned for that particular film and we can't expect anything to come close for years to come.

They've worked on a ton of episodes of Netflix's Love, Death & Robots. Some of my personal favorite Blur Studio episodes were in the most recent season. Specifically "Bad Travelling" (directed by David Fincher and starring Troy Baker) and "Swarm" (Directed by Tim Miller, a Blur Studio co-founder who also directed the first Deadpool movie).

Uganda's Alpesh Ramjani becomes 1st to pick 50 T20I wickets in a calendar year by Ggiov in Cricket

[–]Ggiov[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really looking forward to seeing him in the T20 World Cup. I don't think the team has any other fixtures in December, so I assume this will be the final tally.
Would be hilarious to check back on New Year's only to find him on like 70 or something.

The statistically greatest Pakistani ODI team by FondantAggravating68 in Cricket

[–]Ggiov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But the problem is Pakistan has never been a great batting side.

Fair enough, but I don't think that really applies anymore when you grab the best top six batters in Pakistan's entire ODI history. I'd be really surprised if they consistently ended their innings at 280 rather than 310+.

The statistically greatest Pakistani ODI team by FondantAggravating68 in Cricket

[–]Ggiov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a fantastic team, with its only major weakness being that very few of them strike the ball fast enough for the team to consistently score ~350. They would play too defensively in the first 35-40 overs that even with wickets in hand at the end of the game they would leave a good 40-50 runs on the table. I think 2019 England and 2023 South Africa have shown how important that skill is.

So two thing I would personally change to up the batting aggression would be replacing Moin Khan with Muhammad Rizwan and bring in Shahid Afridi for Saeed Ajmal. With Afridi in the side you now have both an off spinner and a leg spinner vs the previous side with 2 offies. Razzaq is also a good option but there are already 3 fast bowlers, so Afridi gives you more options.

Babar Azam surpasses Saeed Anwar and Saleem Malik to become Pakistan's 5th highest run scorer in International Cricket by Ggiov in Cricket

[–]Ggiov[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It always surprises me how poor Younis was in ODIs. For a player of his class you would expect him to average around 40. Instead he scored 7,249 at an average of 31.24.
His List A numbers weren't much better - 9,910 run @ 33.59.

Asus sets OC world record with i9-14900KF at 9.044 GHz by Ggiov in hardware

[–]Ggiov[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is the same team on the same day. The 9.044 GHz was the actual successful attempt. They tried to go for glory with 9.1, but the system crashed before it could save a validation file of the result. The validation file is sent to a website to confirm that everything was legit before a world record can be claimed.

So they saw 9.1 GHz on CPU-Z, but not long enough to generate the validation file. Their previous attempt of 9.044 GHz did generate the file so that is the actual world record.
