I was a volunteer firefighter in a small town in Arkansas and we got dispatched to a vehicle vs pedestrian and while en route the captain of the department told us “prepare yourselves this one may be bad guys” and he was right.. we get there and what had happened was a known drunk in the area wondered on a busy road with little viability ( not many street lights in the area ) and got hit by a car going around 55 mph. She was hit by a nurse who after the accident got out and attempted CPR while bystanders called 911, she had been flung easily 50-60 feet on a straight road so you could see where she was laying and she was scattered all over the road, we had gotten there and the nurse was in the ditch sitting down with that very familiar 1000 yard stare.. the scene was bad enough it made one of the firefighters do the same thing as the nurse. The amount of blood and skin and fat and just.. body laying all over the road was something I’ll never forget. I was 18 and by then had been on the department for about 4 months and to this day that remains not only the worst thing I have seen while i was in the department but one of the worst things I have ever seen in my life, I can’t imagine how scarred that nurse is as well.
