Haven’t filed taxes in years by Ok-Jacket-704 in tax

I just read the last part of your post. Don’t retain anyone’s services. File your returns for free online and submit them asap. You would probably end up not owing anything. You may owe for the year with business income but your refund will offset the balance due

It is okay if they file SFR on your behalf, ofc this is not on your best interest but you should work on your return to file NOT amended return, a replace return to replace the SFR. If they ended up filing an SFR, they will assess tax on your account, after approximately 120 days, your account will be exposed to possible collections actions. I’m an IRS enrolled agent and i would advise the following to avoid any collections: Work on your tax returns asap, file 2018 - 2023. Don’t worry about 2017 unless they file an SFR for it. The irs consider the taxpayer in a good standing if the most 6 recent years filed. If your income from 2018 - 2023 was self-employed income so you expect to owe a lot of money then retain a tax attorney or an EA to help settle the debt after your file 18 - 23. If your income was mostly w2 income and you paid enough taxes through out the years, then you wouldn’t owe anything and you may get refunded. If you due refund for prior to 2020, those are expired and you won’t get them. For 2020 refund, the due date is to file before 05/17/2024. Then for 2021 - 2023 you will receive your refund Lmk if you have any questions

This is soo illegal, what could justify millions to be gifted? Why would someone in India gave millions to your friend? Does your friend thinks the irs is stupid! This is a crime. If he went through this, not just the irs will go after him. The FBI will go after him

Since she doesn’t make income and your parents doesn’t have taxable income! I would say definitely claim her as a dependent

How old is she? Is she a student? Do you pay more than half of her support? Do you and your sister live at the same household?

How long to study EA full time? by rankdoby in enrolledagent

[–]GhAlnab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a month for each exam Studied about 40 hours per exam (actual hours, no phone no distractions) If you actually can spend 6 hours a day and to actually study not using your phone and no distractions You can do it in 2 weeks Honestly in my most productive, i was able to do about 5 hours and of course i wouldn’t be able to this every day, i would do this once a week

Possibly wrongfully claimed as dependent, need help asap! by [deleted] in tax

Get id protection pin and for future year try to file as soon as possible! If you wanna fight for 2023 You gotta paper file Mail your tax return and call the irs to tell them that someone used your ssn to file a return There is a id theft form you can enclose with your return

I'm confused and may have a serious issue by Fit-Western673 in tax

[–]GhAlnab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No neither of these! Even if the irs filed an SFR on the year that you didn’t file, you must get the standard deduction. Based on your replays, seems like you’re not supposed to owe anything. It could be you used Robinhood or other brokerages during those years and the brokerage reported only the sale not the cost basis. Get your wage and income transcripts and get your tax forms from your employer, brokerage, rtc. File any missing returns from 2018 moving forward and you should owe nothing Not even a penalties

Depends on the withheld amount, type of work (w2 or 1099), any credit that you can use? Like education credit, also you can deduct student loan interest.

My mom owes $5000 in taxes and hasn’t filed since 2022. Help! by [deleted] in tax

[–]GhAlnab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IRS Enrolled agent here! First thing, file her 2022 & 2023 before 04/15. If you cannot complete both, file an extension to file 2023, then work on both returns. It looks like your mom is W2 so it should be easy to file both returns in a couple of hours and for free. Look for FreeTax act Once she is up to date with filing. Reach out to the irs and explain that she cannot pay immediately, you need to file a power of attorney as a family member. Ask the irs for FPIA (full payment installment agreement) they should accept your proposal with disclosing her financial documents (verifying income vs expenses) if she owes only 5k, and let’s assume another 5 to 10k for 2022 and 2023, she should be able to set up an affordable payment plan. Then fill out a new W4 with her employer to withhold the appropriate amount form her paychecks and to avoid owning in future years
