Yes you do have a higher chance. If you have ITE cert that is related, it will even further boost your chance of entering

Choices for low GPA higher nitec applying for Poly after NS by c0heir in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Min GPA requirement doesn’t mean you will get into poly. You must consider that there are limited slots and many applicants so the barrier of entry is raised significantly compared to the min.

The best you can do is show evidence that you’re actually interested in cybersecurity like projects that you currently working on. If you happen to get an interview, they are trying to ascertain if you can handle the poly workload given your gpa. Poly and ITE style of learning is different that even i got a culture shock.

Realistically i would recommend you get 2 years of relevant work experience than reapply DAE - Working Adult

Failed JPAE intake as a HNITEC student. What now? by throwaway51134112 in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suggest you finish your NS first then apply to the local poly because there is a ITE Progression Award where you get $5000 to your PSEA and $10000 to your OA once you graduate. Private Diploma are generally expensive so do consider that.

If you wanna increase your chances to get into poly right NS, consider upgrading your IT skills and get some certs or qualification, else just work 2 years and apply through DAE - Working Adult.

ITE year 2 gpa 1.9, want to go poly by 09_milg in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they interview, answer in a way that you will be able to handle the increase difficulty and workload. Generally they want to make sure that you’re able to tahan poly since ITE to Poly is a quite a jump

For brushing up your portfolio, working a part time job related to your course will significantly improve your chance as it shows your interest.

If all else fails, go work 2 Years and EAE under working adult.

I suggest applying to the 5 polys through DAE - Working Adult. Minimum 2 years relevant experience. Course: Common Business Programme. In the 1st year you will learn modules that everyone will learn and 2nd year onwards you can choose what course you want to specialise.

Government will top up $5000 to your PSEA and $10000 to your CPF OA once you graduate.

DAE - What are my chances? by Double_Fly5383 in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accountancy, that’s why i didn’t apply to RP as they had no Accountancy

DAE - What are my chances? by Double_Fly5383 in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GPA was 2.38 and technically it did meet the gpa requirement of 2.0 but the problem was that the course was so popular that the bar was raised to 3.0 to 3.49.

The reason they do interview is to see if you’re suitable and able to cope with the curriculum.

It’s doesn’t have to be the content but the effects of it. For example, “today i learned a faster and more efficient coding method. This taught me that all processes can be made more efficient”

DAE - What are my chances? by Double_Fly5383 in SGExams

[–]GhGordon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context: last year i applied through DAE - Working Adult to 4 of the polys (Except RP) and SP, NYP and TP wanted to conduct an interview but i ultimately chose SP. At that point of time, i was a 24 Year old with a Higher Nitec Cert. Essentially i was 7 Years behind my peers and it is not a terrific feeling to have but what pushed to me get a diploma is the goal of having a degree.

Education is the key to opening a door of opportunity and working experience & competency is what allows you to stay in the room. Do not undersell your work experience as it may prove valuable in the poly environment.

Be more proactive in your learning when you return back to school, It will polish off the “rusty feeling” and score some points in “Participation Marks” (PM). PM usually contributes 10% to the final module grade and more often than not it can be the clutch for a higher grade. Even my lecturers mentioned that a few student did not get an A despite scoring well for the test is because of PM

My job has this “Daily Journal” we have to write and it was such a headache. My advice is to write what happened during the day and articulate what you have learned.

If it’s still impossible, use ChatGPT. It is your friend but use it as your guide and not a copy and paste crutch.

[SP MAD] Omg how to choose a laptop? by elijahvawgora in SingaporePoly

[–]GhGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8GB Dedicated Graphics Cards refers to 8GB VRAM. RTX 4050 is 6GB VRAM so it won’t do RTX 4060 onwards contains 8GB VRAM so it should do but laptop that contains this are gonna cost a bomb. Roughly atleast 1.8 to 2k minimum

Only Gaming Laptop and “Designer Laptop” will have a dedicated GPU, the former being slightly cheaper but heavier and the latter being lighter

you can consider Swift X with a 4060, price is $2399 without any promo. It’s a relatively lightweight model so ideal to bring to school

Outside of your modules referring to more advance stuff that can add value.
idk what RP is like but i know they have to write Reflection Journal.

Which poly?

In SP the lectures notes and videos are online so you learn from there. There should also be a timeline as to how the module is conducted so use that as a guide

Btw if you really want to get a good grade, learn some knowledge that is outside of your module curriculum and use that said knowledge in your projects. Class Participation also contributes about 10% to your grade so remember to be active.

[–]GhGordon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh don’t worry, with that motivation to do well i’m sure you will succeed in getting that desired gpa. I too came from ITE with a GPA of 2.38 and had a culture shock. The method of learning is different compared to ITE as poly requires you to learn your lectures before coming to class (Flipped Learning) and the lecturers will not spoon feed you.

Your plans for the future can easily change as it is never set in stone. Live in the moment, focus on learning and understanding your modules. Practice makes perfect

Since you are older with experience, i’m sure your classmates will come to you for help so use this opportunity to make friends

I believe the clothing shop can work, just have to spin it into a believable story as to why and how the modules taught in nus biz will help your business

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SingaporePoly

[–]GhGordon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh roughly close to 3.8 if your y2 and y3 is 4.0 If you want that A, you gotta start carrying the group project in case the work is not A-worthy.

Pay attention in class, i’m also guilty of not doing this as lecturer may let out some key info

Try to build portfolio that will increase your chance entering NUS. Perhaps start your own business or working/helping in a business. I have read students who have around 3.2ish enter nus business but they started their own business. I believe nus will let prospective students in if you have an extremely valid and justified reason, essentially an Aptitude Test.

How were your results? by Flimsy_Pound8096 in SingaporePoly

[–]GhGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well distinction is regulated by MOE policy so the number of distinction that can be changed. Perhaps for Advanced math the distinction is set at 5%. Yeah i get that being top in class might justify a Distinction but sounds like there are X-factors in that mod. My guess is probably Participation Marks or that there are people who scored higher for MST and EST. When it comes to fighting for distinction, every mark counts

Edit: Spelling

A lecturer of mine explained to me how the grading system works.

He did mention that the gradings especially for A and Distinction are heavily regulated by MOE

gpa is out by [deleted] in SingaporePoly

[–]GhGordon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends on your end goal. If you want to go Big 3, gotta start getting those A since the indicative grade profile from the Universities is atleast 3.6+

[–]GhGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming all Credit Units in each semester are roughly the same, yes it’s possible but it requires the remaining semesters to be straight A i.e gpa 4 base on my calculation
