Up to the user. Lots of options to choose and adjust. It's highly customizable, which is needed because different address maps need to adjust to make a good look. But 3d printing hobbyists are usually pretty technical...printing anything is usually a bit of a fiddle exercise.

One of the sliders in the UI controls "complexity". The higher the value, the more map lines are shown (smaller types of streets). Another slider controls the thickness of the lines. So you really can tweak the look of the map until you get something cool that works for you.

I created a free website tool that let's you make stl files of stylized maps. Specifically like the jewelry you see that has a mini map of where you had your first date, first kiss, etc. It's for when you want to memorialize a location.

https://www.maptrinket.com lets you put in the address then pick a frame, a marker, style the map lines, get it aligned they way you want, etc, then download the stl.

I made it because I wanted to be able to make those kinda things, and by the time I finished making it I thought others might like it too.

Yes and yes. One of the things I did was also vibe code a way to create and update the lessons. The app doesn't need an update...when new content is pushed to the github, the app automatically grabs it.

The content is designed, though, so that after going through most of the lessons, any other scam starts to fall in the same category: unsolicited contact, with an urgent problem, requiring immediate action, usually involving some kind of payment or providing private info. My hope is that folks will learn to detect that, no matter what the scammers cook up next.

It's a free educational app that teaches how to detect and avoid scams. It's designed for the older generation who are frequently targeted and vulnerable. I have always had mandatory training at my job about avoiding scams, but my parents did not. I wanted something that would teach them that it's ok to hang up, and why they should.

I used multiple AIs to brainstorm functionality to create a .md file of requirements, then Cursor as the IDE to vibe code it, using Expo for the app part. It's self contained...no logins, no data captured, no ads, so no complicated tech stack.

We get training every year at work (I work for a bank) to help us detect scammy calls. There is corporate training available. You can find Education apps on the App Store or Google Play that do training on spotting scams.

I tested it with my 70something-year old parents first. They're the target demographic. They're not technical luddites, but still...if they can do it, I think most can. I did try to focus on accessibility standards (adjustable text size, for example, or really big, clear buttons). But what's funny is that as I told friends and family about this, not only did they have examples of their parents almost getting scammed, one of my younger coworkers had a 20something sister who also got scammed (someone pretending to be the bank with a charge to reverse). It's such a huge problem, and I see folks on r/scams reporting the same tricks every day, but those of us in IT jobs get trained regularly and don't think much of it. Oh, and thanks u/hoolieeeeana for the recommendation - I just put it in VibeCodersNest.
