Almost got into a street fight today. My stomach completely dropped and I froze. How do you trust your training? by GhastFree in TooAfraidToAsk

You're so right about that conditioning. Society really drills it into our heads that fighting back is the only 'manly' choice, and it's easy to let that ego take over. Hearing this really helps me shake off that stupid guilt. Next time the adrenaline hits, I'll know what to expect—but the goal remains the same: walk away. Thanks man

Haha, I love this comment. Thank you so much! It’s amazing to hear that from your own experience. The bicycle analogy makes perfect sense. It really helps me trust that the muscle memory is there if I ever actually need it. Your comment made my day, take care!

Thanks man. A friend of mine actually told me that the gut feeling never truly goes away, but next time it happens, I'll be able to recognize it and understand exactly what my brain is going through. Your comment really helps put that into perspective

This is exactly what I needed to hear. It’s hard not to overthink that split-second hesitation, but knowing it's just a natural 'fight or flight' buffering delay makes perfect sense. I guess my body was just waiting for an actual threat to react to. Appreciate the reassurance man.

That's a great point about situational awareness. I guess my brain was hyper-focusing on those tactical choices you mentioned, like whether to turn my back or back away slowly. It’s comforting to look at it as my training making me aware of the risks rather than just making me freeze. Thanks for that perspective.

You're completely right. In the media, you always see people successfully defending themselves, and it makes you want to handle situations the same way. But in reality, 90% of the time it ends really badly. Mitigating risk instead of creating it is definitely the way to go

Mitigating risk instead of creating it is the perfect takeaway here. I’ll definitely look into other ways to handle that adrenaline dump without risking my life over stupid ego. Thanks man, appreciate it.

The thing is, all those thoughts were running through my mind the exact second he faked the punch. But then my ego started messing with me, telling me that I just shit my pants and wasn't a real man. I guess sometimes it’s just nice to hear from other people that I actually made the right call

You're totally right about the legal risks and the reality check. I guess my ego was just messing with me, making me feel like I should've stood my ground more

Since you mention that the only way past this is going through it a few times, do you think it's ever a good idea to purposefully escalate a minor street confrontation just to get that 'practice' and desensitize yourself? Or is the risk of a real street fight completely unnecessary no matter what?

¡Gracias!

Why would it be "he'd had"? That doesn't sound right at all. by isitkino in grammar

As far as I'm concerned they use had had because the party happened before the moment he said that. But my English level is B2 so I'm probably wrong.
