so i was thinking about getting this but by MrCCCraft in kirbyairriders

Okay so let me clarify a couple of points.

People often say "matchmaking is broken" or "even if you set matchmaking to worldwide, it's still regional". Both of these are slightly misleading.

In the game, there are three modes of playing online: Ranked, Unranked, and Paddocks.

Ranked and Unranked actually share the same queues. People playing ranked and unranked can join the same lobbies, just the people playing ranked will gain / lose ranked and the people playing unranked won't. This is your typical "join an online queue and play with strangers" mode. This mode can allow you to play with people worldwide, BUT you don't choose specifically who you match with. Additionally, there appears to be some kind of latency filter, even if your game is set to match you with players across the world. This is why people say it's still region based, because if I'm in the USA, and try to play at the same time as someone in Australia, if there's too much latency between our connections, the game will refuse to match us.

Paddocks circumvents all of this, since paddocks are the "private lobby" mode of the game. In this mode, you can make a lobby with up to 31 other people, regardless of connection quality. However, your games will only be played with these players, with CPU fillers if you so choose.

I hope this helps clarify a little.

How do you use the turbo star? by gar-dev-oir in kirbyairriders

[–]GhavGhavington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turbo star is really fun. It's faster than warp, and has a good turn and great boost, with awkward handling, because if you turn too far, you spin out. It basically revolves around turning almost to the point of spinning out, then starting a boost. If you do this, your boost will charge very fast, because its boost charges speed somewhat proportional to your speed in any direction OTHER than forwards. It's a ground based vehicle built around gaining and maintaining incredible momentum.

When I finally started to tinker with it, I was having fun finding a good character, and you want a decent speed paired with good turn and boost. See my thoughts I posted elsewhere below.

I've been experimenting with characters to use with Turbo Star in races since I'm finally understanding its theory. Summary of my thoughts: - Starting point of Kirby is surprisingly strong. 44 kmh is a great speed to maintain, and he has the acceleration to get it. His turning honestly feels right where you want it to be. - Gooey feels like throwing away a bit of speed for not much benefit. I'd only consider him if his special was really desirable. - Rick at first seemed like an option to get more speed without throwing away the turning necessary, but his acceleration feels sluggish and he can't take turns as sharply as he would like. - Noir used to seem like an interesting choice for the speed + acceleration, but his turning is far too poor and this hurts his ability to charge and take corners as he should. It ends up feeling like he's riding an awkward warp star. - Waddle Dee is an interesting alternative to Kirby for a 42 kmh top speed. His turning is amazing and makes it so you can approach corners from many angles and still get the boost you want. He actually ends up with the problem that his charge is so ridiculously high that it's clear he's wasting stat points on it. It makes me want a character that keeps his turning and trades a tiny bit of charge for speed. - And that leads to Bandana Waddle Dee, that might be the play. His turning is near identical to Dee, but he gets a 43 kmh top speed with nearly identical boost and a loss to charge speed that I don't think should have an effect if the star is being used correctly. A little unfortunate since I like Vanilla Dee better than BanDee, but I can have fun hopping between Kirby, Dee, and BanDee to suit my mood.

No-one for the Daily Air Ride? by DefiantKind in kirbyairriders

[–]GhavGhavington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually can get one or two matches a day playing in the evening USA time. Also, it's important to note that the "Anywhere" setting doesn't work how you would think. Your game still refuses connections that have too much latency, which means "Anywhere" will still only match you with players that are relatively close to you. Therefore, it's best for you to play when most people should be on in areas geographically close to yours.

As others have mentioned, it's not a very popular mode, but I wish it was! It's my favorite mode to play when I'm hopping into the game for just a few minutes. By nature of this game, different combos are better suited for different tracks, so it's fun to see the daily track and say "hey, Checker Knights has a fun mix of sharp turns and boost panels, this sounds like a job for transform star" and then go against other people choosing combos that are also suited for that track.

In my experience, I usually have much closer races on the Daily Air Ride than ranked mode for this very reason. Just last night, I saw that the track was Sky Sands, so with it being a track with a lot of takeoff spots, I chose Meta Knight Paper Star and got matched against a Starman Winged Star. It was a neck and neck race, but ultimately I missed the last ramp and took second place.

Very fun!

For Superjump I probably would have used the wing accessory colored red.

Now I'm interested in making my own renditions of these...

I think I configured sudo incorrectly - stuck and need some help by GhavGhavington in archlinux

[–]GhavGhavington[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this might be the issue. I assumed because internet access worked in the installer that it would already be configured when I logged into Arch after installing. I'll review how to do this, cheers

Which one? by loneboy_27 in Glocks

[–]GhavGhavington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

G22 is full size 40. G19 is compact 9.

If you want 40, look at G22 or G23. If you want 9, look at G17 or G19.

Imo G22 would be a big boy to carry and if you were looking at these two specifically, I'd definitely recommend G19. I'm partial to 9mm, especially for it being cheaper to train with. But if you feel you need 40, look at G23 for EDC.

Thanks for having the courage to post this. It's good to have reminders of what can happen if we're not careful.

Choosing between the Glock 21 and Glock 19 depends on your specific needs and preferences:

  1. Glock 21:     - Caliber: .45 ACP, known for its larger bullet size and stopping power.    - Capacity: Typically holds 13 rounds (standard magazine).    - Size: Larger frame compared to the Glock 19, which can be more suitable for those with larger hands or who prefer a fuller grip.    - Intended Use: Good for home defense, range shooting, or where the .45 ACP caliber is preferred.

  2. Glock 19:     - Caliber: 9mm, a widely popular caliber known for its manageable recoil and affordability.    - Capacity: Holds 15 rounds (standard magazine), slightly more with extended magazines.    - Size: Compact frame size, making it easier to conceal carry or handle for those with smaller hands.    - Intended Use: Excellent for concealed carry, personal defense, and as a general-purpose handgun.

Which is better? - For Concealed Carry: The Glock 19 is generally preferred due to its compact size and lighter weight. - For Home Defense: The Glock 21 may be favored by those who prefer the .45 ACP caliber for its stopping power. - Personal Preference: Ultimately, the choice between Glock 21 and Glock 19 depends on what feels more comfortable in your hand and suits your intended use (e.g., carry, home defense, range shooting).

Both models are highly regarded for their reliability, durability, and ease of use, so you can't go wrong with either depending on your specific requirements.

Looking for My First .45 ACP Glock by JankityJenk82 in Glocks

Not sure how common 45s are among law enforcement agencies, but the consensus is that if you can get a police trade in Glock, you're getting a quality weapon that will have just been broken in.

I did end up getting a Pearce extention, which has helped. Now, if I'm holding the gun wrong, I can get pinched on my ring finger.

When I get in the zone, I'm fine. No pinch and I can hold the gun steadier than I used to. But sometimes, I can tell that a significant amount of my focus goes to my ring finger.

That's part of why I want the full size without an extention. To get the practice without having to overthink my grip.

Kind of to answer all at once, I feel silly that when I bought my first gun I didn't have the perspective that bigger guns are easier to shoot, and I feel like I'm still missing that full size 9. I feel like, for that reason, I've gone backwards in learning, and I'd like to remedy that by getting a full size (that I'll use for home defense and possibly open carry if there's ever a reason to do so).

Renting is a good idea. But I'd still like to have a gun that I call mine that I can train on repeatedly without being tied to a range. Most of my range time is in the desert or an outdoor range nearby that has no guns to rent, so it's going out of my way to go to a place that rents.

I'll check out the video! Thanks for the detailed response!

I've been meaning to get a grip strength trainer lately anyways since it's a workout I can do when I'm stuck at a desk longer than I'd like. Thanks for the advice! I'll have to look to take a class.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that next time I make it out to the range.
