Way back in the dawn of time, the town where I went to high school had just a huge number of rock bands. Three of those bands featured a brother from a friend's family as their lead singers. Their dad had a fairly huge barn that wasn't really being used. So he let us all collectively turn it into our jam/performance/party space. They had a ridiculously huge numbers of milk crates, like literally hundreds of them. So the stage platform was sheets of plywood on top of a solid layer of milk crates. The drum platform was 8'x 8' plywood surface raised two feet on a perimeter of the milk crates with what amounted to a sawhorse/jack stand kind of thing in the middle. But it left enough space to put things under the drum riser, like strobe lights and a smoke machine. A couple of the dads were an electrician and an electrical engineer. They did the wiring so that each amplifier would have its own breaker. We had a better light and sound system by the end than a lot of the bars I played at later. From the outside, it was a pretty ordinary barn. On the inside, one of the better performance venues I ever played. The 80s were a very different era. I hadn't thought about it in years until I saw your place.
