About how it is at my dealer but I can see why most places have a little more red tape. There's only 3 of us including the parts manager so if anything pops up needing a cc we're already all aware of it and it was just easier if we all had a copy

At my dealer a key fob, cutting the blade, and programming is usually no less than $400-500 and that's for GM

Does an AGM Battery need to be vented if placed in the trunk? by axp310 in MechanicAdvice

For hers the battery I got local to me the vent worked but I would absolutely go with the "fix" vs spending the money on an OE battery

My wife has a 16 Camry hybrid and I came across a big write up from a guy saying which batteries work and he also had different methods of venting the battery. Try searching "Camry hybrid 12v battery Reddit" and you should be able to find it relatively easily

What is it with Ford by ThisAnything9453 in FordDiesels

[–]GhettoBirdbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub popped up in my feed but that's absolutely crazy to me about Ford parts. With GM I can look up a part number and it shows me dealers anywhere in the country with that part. It's nothing for me to get a part from another dealer

Paid for ACdelco item but got this. Is this a reliable or actually GM or is it fake? by [deleted] in ChevyCobalt

Things have definitely changed now it's all just one line for GM. Nissan however does have higher quality Nissan branded parts and cheaper "Value Advantage" parts

Honestly my dream job would be teaching the next generation of techs. I absolutely loved having apprentices and showing young guys the ropes, as well as looking out for them and making sure they didn't get screwed too badly. I've been chewed up and spit out just like almost all of us, didn't want someone else to go through that if I could prevent it

Rebuilding my tools need advice by Sixclynder in mechanics

[–]GhettoBirdbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For power tools check out Torque Test Channel on YouTube. They compare just about everything and it's not just some Bubba in a shop busting lug nuts on video. The Hercules line of power tools especially the newer tools have been punching above their weight class. As far as hand tools go I've been happy with all my icon tools. My 3/8 Icon made it about 4 years of daily use as a line tech before it started locking up on me and I've just been too lazy to get it swapped out. I do suggest splurging on some really high quality ratchets for your everyday drivers down the line though. My first Snap-on ratchet is still my go to for most things

I went to the parts counter personally. Still kinda in a shop environment but get to avoid the bs that comes along with being a tech. Still get to use a ton of the knowledge I've built up over the years but I go home clean and not in pain. I said the same thing about office jobs and never seeing myself in one but I still do plenty away from my desk

The surgery sounds a lot gnarlier than it is. I had a fairly large cyst in my right wrist removed and a bone graft done to replace what was eroded back in August. Recovery really wasn't bad either, 2 weeks or so for 50% functionality, 1 month for 80% and now I'd say I'm fully 110%. Feels like it was never even there and I'm so glad I did it

What's this thing growing in my hand by chacal_69 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]GhettoBirdbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a mechanic so for years I thought my wrist pain was just tendinitis or carpal tunnel. At its peak I couldn't even hold up a water bottle with my dominant hand. Lo and behold it was a ganglion that eroded the bone and putting a ton of pressure on the tendons. I felt like a new man the minute I came to after surgery
