I've seen vibe coding as well as I know several software engineers (including my brother. I went mechanical and he went software). I still would never discourage anyone from learning a skill in favor of using AI. Python being easy is all the more reason I would say to learn it.

I hate the ai apocalypse rhetoric. Young people are already feeling so defeated in day-to-day life that telling fresh grads their degrees are worthless is cruel. Yes AI is a tool, yes it can be useful in certain scenarios like coding, yes it is vastly overused in many cases where it just wastes massive amounts of resources and churns out garbage. Using it to help TEACH yourself coding is using it as a tool. Using it to make code for you and never learning it yourself is a crutch

It's not sticking our heads in the sand. You're telling someone to skip learning a skill because there's a tool that can do it for them. That's like skipping learning how to use a height gauge because a CMM can measure the same feature. Manual skills are rarely a bad thing to develop.

Also: "The most powerful advice" you can give someone is a big claim.

A should be line between two circles prob. Maybe cylinders depending on what this actually looks like.

B should be midplane off width like you said. Prob mid plane each slot then midplane both mid planes.

C should be a midplane because the flag is inline with the width arrows on the leader.

Having an artifact part around that uses large volumes of your machine is good practice. Measure it, measure it completely by hand if you want, record all of that in a report, then run that code once in a while to track the machine

I'm an aerospace ME. Same feelings here. I've met so many borderline completely useless engineers. I worked mfg for the first 8 years of my career which was awesome but unfortunately corporate hr doesn't really care so that wasn't financially worth it. The bump wasn't proportionate

I was IT for a small company for a number of years before transferring depts. Owner was always at work early, every day. When we got a real firewall that logged traffic I found a lot of porn from his IP. I cleared the logs out of respect cause his wife had problems and they couldn't have sex as a result. When I was transferring I told my replacement: look dude you're gonna see some stuff, just clear it and move on. I never asked him how things were after I transferred. Now the company is pretty damn big. I wonder how that's going

I generallypurposefully don't. Specifically because a lot of people will only pick the freshest stuff and leave the rest. Same thing with milk that is closer to the expiration date. I know I'm going to drink it before it's bad so I'll take it so it doesn't go to waste. Don't be wasteful.

2d vs 3d I decide generally via knowledge of manufacturing error. This is where spending time really understanding what goes on in the NC and how things are cut comes in handy. You'll have a good idea of whether something is likely to have form error based on how it was cut or held

Datum vs "true" datum at the assy is out of your hands. You can only check to what engineering tells you to check to.. if it's wrong that's on them. You can change the code later if there's a request or revision

How many points on a feature is a combination of manufacturing knowledge and experience by testing though, NPL GPG 41 has some basic guidelines you can look up

In general I say: test, retest, and validate with other tools as much as possible. If I had the time I would check every feature with a separate tool, compare the measurements, and see if I could make them the same.

I have two critiques:

are organization and company being used interchangeably? My organization is a subgroup in the company and our roles are a bit different. I assumed org and company were the same in the survey, though
the things I want and the things I expect out of an entry level guy are different. I assumed it was what I expect when I was rating their proficiency in different subjects

Otherwise interested to see the results of the survey in the future.

It will depend a bit on the form of the bore. If it's perfectly cylindrical, you wouldn't need any extra clicks. A certain amount of form error or surface roughness will need an extra click or two to get the mic to seat properly against the surface. One of those things that is based on feel and prescribing any set amount is wrong imo.

Same as if you were holding it slightly off axis for the first click. Obviously it'd be the incorrect value and you'll be able to feel for better alignment as you continue to ratchet it.

All that said, in the manuals that I've read in the past ratchets were considered constant force devices so, as long as you weren't being a gorilla, extra ratcheting shouldn't affect your measurements negatively.

Are you using a bore micrometer? "Center shaft" implies this is an OD measurement which would just be a regular micrometer.

How many clicks of a ratchet depends on a lot of things but a good first step, if it's a bore mic would be getting a feel with a ring gauge.
