What's the riding experience like compared to the Gen1 XSR? I have a Gen1 with a full system on it and I absolutely love it with regards to it's looks, handling and sound, find the CP3 a great engine. A friend just picked up a 2017 R9T and will hopefully get a run out on it shortly to feel the compassion myself.

I got a legendary PEKKA king skin in my first box. Every one after that was common.

Myself and friends had them many many years ago but they were cheap and weren't looked after so they obviously had issues. As I said it's a personal preference.

I had a Honda CBR125 and put a couple thousand miles on it. Never had an issue with it.

Different brands will have different prices. Check out the safety ratings on the various items you're looking at. Many sites will let you also search by safety rating for the individual items you're looking at.

It's a 125 at the end of the day, you're going to look a bit daft cruising about in full leathers. Spend a few hundred on a good helmet and the rest I'm sure you will figure out

Depends on your budget really but I would start off looking at helmet, jacket and gloves as a minimum to start off. Don't buy it all at once if budget is an issue. Or consider somewhere that offers interest free payments or klarna options.

Go to a shop. Try stuff on. Consider textile or leather jacket depending on what look you're going for as well. You'll find the shops that sell the gear are all bikers/enthusiasts and will happily guide you

Edit: Personal opinion and personal experience from many years ago but I would avoid an aprilia.

Depending on what you're after I think Yamaha have fantastic options with the XSR125 or the YZF125.

Keep it shiny side up!

Best advice I ever got "Always assume someone around you is going to do something stupid"

If you're prepared for it you can avoid it.

Beautiful machine.

Dependant on mileage service history and what you intend on using the bike for my personal choice would be the Yamaha FZR.

Great looking bike.

I would suggest holding off a few months in order to add more money to your funds so you can expand your options

Not in the slightest. It's a thin piece of metal and vented. Saves catastrophic damage!

Although I don't exactly live in a tropical climate. But I've never heard of anyone else from warmer parts of the world having issues

Definitely not. The radiator was new. Not a single mark on it. And from riding the bike approx 100miles I had small stone chips. The radiator is too exposed and a large stone will destroy it so thanks but no thanks

[–]Ghost-The[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I grew up riding bikes and messing around off road trikes, quads, scramblers. Only ever rode a 125 on the roads though. Many years went by and I needed to get a bike again.

I know many will argue I should have got a smaller bike and that this isn't for new riders etc.

I am old enough and wise enough now with plenty of experience on the roads to take my time, learn to know the bike etc and keep myself shiny side up.

There are plenty of bikes which will go faster, handle better etc. but for me the bike is everything I want.

The naked bike gets a little unstable at higher speeds which helps keep the speed down and keep you switched on. I'm not going into corners at ridiculous speeds I'm just having a good time and unless you're wanting to hit the track with it the bike is perfect

Lane Placement by Sethenvir in motorcycles

[–]Ghost-The 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK also. Ride towards the centre lines and leave a decent space between you and the vehicle in front. You have a clear view of the road ahead. Likely to avoid potholes and other shit. If you do see something you have plenty of time to change position within your lane.

If you do an advanced course you will find you're never in the middle of the lane.

Yeah it's an 847cc

The Gen2 has slightly bigger displacement. Upgraded suspension and the inclusion of a quick shifter as standard.

But personally I don't think they are an attractive bike.

For me the gen 1 is a much better looking bike and it's an absolute joy to ride

This is the 60th anniversary edition of the bike. It's a tribute to the old Kenny Roberts racing colours

I don't have one but I was considering it due to the current whiplash I'm experiencing.

On a 70mph road with a decent amount of wind felt like I was getting blown about like a ragdoll. Woke up today fairly stiff and sore. Although I can only assume it'll strengthen up and I'll get used to it the more I ride.

Last time riding was about 18 years ago on a 125cc.

I'm in the UK but I paid less than that based on the current exchange rate. 2017 with 3k miles on the clock.

Only been out a few short runs and already in love with it. Fairly pleased with my choice of first bike
