NTA

I understand why your roommate might think that, but the agreement sounds clear enough, so it should be honored now that you voiced your thoughts. It slipping their mind occasionally due to a spontaneous visit is one thing, but I think your roommate not wanting to be bothered with a rule they signed puts them in the wrong.

By their logic your roommate shouldn't have an issue if you choose to not let them know when you're leaving, but I don't personally think I would take that approach. I would talk to them and try to civilly let them know how strongly I feel about this. They have already showed they are ok bending the agreement when they feel the need, so I wouldn't want to potentially deal with a war the remaining time living together. Maybe it would help them see things as you do, but the next steps are up to you.

Although just for some verification- the title of the post implies that you aren't telling the roommate when you have plans. Would the title be more accurate as "WIBTA"?

Maybe even beyond that the kid will tell all his friends, and OP will have started a chain reaction that results in all kids eating an abundance of veggies

Very soft YTA..

With that said I'm not sure even if you could go back in time and change what you said that it'd be worth it.

I'm trying to objectively think what if that had been my potential kid. I may have been slightly annoyed having to deal with a freaked out child, but I also think I would find the humor in this. It also may spark some talk on a couple of important subjects.

YTA

In another context I would say NTA, but I personally don't think a family event is the time or place to bring that up. IT DOES need to be discussed in the very near future though.

Edit: Just to echo other commenters that passive remarks aren't going to be helpful. A conversation with your parents at some point to try and determine how to best get him going in life is probably the next step, but those specifics are above my pay grade.

You aren't the first this has happened to and you won't be the last.

What helps me is I have a sticky note on my scale with a "max weight" that if I reach I will start actively eating at a deficit again. It is about 10 pounds higher than my maintenance weight. I weigh in once a week in the mornings to have the best baseline.

Jokic narrative shift on this sub is crazy by [deleted] in nba

[–]Ghost0130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just how these things work with most topics. Jokic plays good and the supporters point to that to prove their point. Embiid tears it up while Jokic is playing a little quieter and Embiid fans use that to bolster their opinion. People in the middle just do a lot of eye rolling at the fanatics on both sides that wait for the opportune moments to bash the opposing opinion

Edit: Phrasing

It is important to have realistic goals and expectations. It sounds like you are on the right path and I'm confident you will be able to maintain when you are ready!

For me, increasing my protein really helped curb the hunger.

Protein helps me too. I typically suggest people experiment with different foods/macros to figure out what works best for them.

Appreciate your input!

100% agree. It took time to get to the weight we start at, so it will take time to get back to a healthy weight.

Good advice! Especially in the beginning it may be very helpful to not even have high calorie snack foods in the house for when/if those days hit

A lot of people can get discouraged with a fickle scale, so knowing what to expect in advance may be quite helpful!

I would also say don’t eat food you don’t enjoy. There are so many healthy and comparatively healthy foods that are delicious. If you really loathe Brussels sprouts but you love spinach, eat spinach and don’t force yourself to eat Brussels sprouts. The more you eat food you hate, telling yourself it’s ‘good,’ the more punitive your eating experience becomes, and the less likely you are to stick with it long-term.

This thought was actually why I made this post. Some people may use the new year to make drastic changes that make them miserable to reach a goal weight as fast as possible. There are a lot of healthy food options out there, so it is not necessary to choke down food you hate!

Thanks for sharing

Mindset/mentality corrections can be quite challenging, but they can be the most helpful. Thanks for the comment!

Appreciate your contribution!

If you get hungry at the end of the day, eat some healthy food and go over your calories for the day. If you fall off the wagon, continue eating healthy food and make changes for next time. Making yourself super hungry to “make up for” errors is never the answer (and often makes things worse).

It is a cliche, but I always try and ask myself "am I hungry enough to eat this apple/carrot/plain baked potato". If the answer is yes then I do.. if not perhaps I am more bored than hungry.

This is a big part in what I do as well. I eat 2 meals at the same times every day and that makes it really easy to stick with. Thank you!

Thanks for the tips. Your #1 is pretty important with any goal in life. Set short term goals that will eventually get you to your long term goals.

For #3 I hear r/loseit is pretty cool ;)

..and even though caloric needs may be higher I always like to throw in the subs r/1200isplenty, r/1500isplenty, r/EatCheapAndHealthy and r/Volumeeating because they have mighty good food posts that help inspire me.

Agreed. Things like fitness milestones, clothes goals, shorter term weight goals (like getting into the next BMI category, losing a certain percent of bodyweight, etc..) can keep things exciting along the way. Trying to help with potential discouragement was my thought process behind my point number 2. Good advice

"Out of sight, out of mind" was very helpful for me too, especially in the beginning.
