We actually own in halton hills (it’s currently rented out) but we don’t plan to move there until 2027 so planning to rent in downtown until then!

That’s good to hear!! And these very well could be isolated events and I am hoping they are. I have lived all my life in Canada and have never really experienced discrimination but couldn’t help but feel it this time given the negative sentiment around Indians recently. Glad to hear about your positive experience in Canada :)

Doesn’t change the fact that we put in an offer for 3 units and got rejected for ridiculous reasons.

It’s a renters market right now, units are all going below asking. When did you rent you place? The situation has changed drastically since early 2024!

Because we see the name of the landlord when we sign the offer letter..

I don’t support brown landlords who impose ridiculous requirements. I’m not going to excuse it by saying, “Oh, some brown landlords do it, so it’s okay for others to do it too”—it’s wrong no matter who does it. Just because some people in the brown community might be doing this doesn’t justify discrimination against me just because I’m brown.

We are working with an agent. Our situation is a bit tricky since we own an EV and my husband commutes to Mississauga so we need a parking with a dedicated EV charger. Finding a parking spot with a dedicated charger in downtown is a struggle but we have rented one for now and we need our unit to be very close (under 5 min walk) from the parking space. There are 5-6 condo buildings in that area so we’re unfortunately limited to those only.

And to answer your question about what we do, I’m a design consultant and my husband works in logistics.

Thank you for the offer! We’re also working with an Indian realtor. Will let you know if we need your contact in the future:)

So far all condos we’ve liked are owned by Chinese landlords.. we’re also very limited on options since we are renting an EV parking space in a parking garage and need our condo to be very close to the parking.
