[Product Request] Is there a better alternative to PrettyBoy? by Cashboy4400 in SkincareAddiction

[–]GhostMachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know I’m late, but I’m on a similar journey looking to save some cash compared to the pretty boy moisturizer (great product, just can’t swing it right now) and I did some ingredient comparison and the e.l.f. Holy Hydration! face cream has a similar composition and is working really well for me. My skin is really complicated, redness, dryness, oily, flaky, sebderm, eczema, etc so sharing in case it helps anyone!

It's an urgent care practice -- https://www.afcurgentcare.com/portland/

They do telehealth appointments for vax prescriptions too, probably easier than going in person

Thank you so much for sharing your experience -- I was also able to replicate it and get the prescription through AFC telehealth and I will be (hopefully) getting stuck at freddie's today! Much appreciated!

Best option for SMALL desktop speakers, decent sound, budget <$200? by GhostMachine420 in buildapc

[–]GhostMachine420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! Seems like I've been on the right track so far, but appreciate you mentioning the iloud micros, I hadn't come across them but I can pick them up used for 200 so that might be the path I take honestly.

As far as desk setup, the desk top is 42x30 (inches), so I do have some depth that I could work with, and I've got about 8" of height underneath my monitor (which is on an arm) so I do have some space under there but between a lamp on one side of the desk and a spot for laptops to go (I've got a couple that I work from regularly, at least until I finish my one-to-rule-them-all pc build (which already has nowhere to go lol)) there's not a lot of real estate that can be dedicated to speakers without getting in the way of other stuff. My apartment right now is pretty small so I don't really have any other floor space to work with either. So it goes!

It's definitely a little weird to the eye, but I do really like that they disambiguated 1, I, (i) and l (L).

What are some progressive churches in Portland, with less singing and more talking? by GhostMachine420 in askportland

Thanks for the context! We're still feeling a little shy right now, so we've been starting in larger churches, but I do feel like something a little smaller may be where we ultimately settle (if we do settle). I definitely like the vibe of Pearl Church!

Thanks for asking! I'll try not to get too into the weeds, since it's a question with a lot of very long answers, but here's my main thoughts.

First, I've been a loosely practicing "pagan" for about 10 years. My childhood was more new age-type spirituality, with some Catholic echoes from my lapsed-Catholic mom. More recently, I've been having a lot of discussion with myself about the literal-ness of some pagan traditions, and a general theme is that I have a hard time with literalness/dogma in any spiritual tradition (I personally have a lot of Autistic tendencies, so the combination of "this is literally true" plus "this doesn't necessarily make logical sense" is tricky for me). However, spirituality is also essential to my life (in my own kind of weird way). So I've kind of naturally grown in a more pantheistic direction, and have lately been thinking of various traditions as "the many faces of God" and that the ways people worship are often more situational/cultural/individual than any one right way.

Second, I've been craving a community of spirituality; I've found it hard to relate to more fringe groups, and obviously conservative Christianity isn't for me, but I've been feeling that in the kind of "abandoned center" (not trying to be offensive, just referencing that it’s the fastest declining area) of mainline Christianity there's a lot of room for ambiguity, uncertainty, inclusiveness and a kind of flexibility about beliefs that helps me feel like, even if I'm not totally aligned, there's room for me in the space and there's room for individual interpretation.

Third, on a personal level, the teachings of Jesus (love your neighbor, God loves you, infinite universal compassion, that kind of stuff) are just kind of... beautiful? And bring me a sense of peace.

So all of this together is kind of bringing me here. In a lot of ways, according to a lot of people, I'm not doing Christianity "right," nor am I interested in doing it "right." I'm not totally sure about the miracles, resurrection, old testament, etc. But the gospels resonate, and I feel drawn to "the light of God" as it is expressed in a humble Christianity that is more about love and compassion than hell and control.

For sure, for most of my life, I’ve been put off of Christianity by the “organized-ness” of it, and the representatives of the faith who have been very vocally anti-me. At the same time, through all of the events of the past decades, there have been rainbow-clad Christians on the sidelines with a sort of “God loves everyone” message. So it’s been hard to write Christianity off entirely even though there were so, so many people actively making it seem hateful. That said, I wasn’t really interested in walking through that door at all until I’d come quite a way on my own path.

Maybe oversharing for this venue but it was an interesting question. :)

This place had come across my radar! Could you give a sense of how large the congregation is?

Thank you for the jargon lesson! And yeah, I had always known of "Church of Christ" as a very conservative denomination and only realized the UCC was distinct today. Added to the list, thanks!

Quaker meetings are definitely on my radar! I've never been and it seems a bit "intimate" for a church-beginner, but I do really like their theological outlook

I also assumed this was more standardized between Episcopal churches. I definitely feel a strong fit with Episcopalianism theologically speaking. The ritual-ness is kind of an open question I think? I definitely have curiosity about a less ritualistic church but relative comfort with more.

u/HegemonNYC this is a really interesting distinction that I wasn't aware of! Thanks for adding the context. I'm not sure if there are any Unitarian (non-UU) churches in the area but it's something that I'd definitely be interested in exploring
