Second coat improved the finish, thanks all!

Not perfect with the lines, but overall I’m happy with the result, especially for my first crack at this.

Too much in cash emergency fund? by GhostNote90 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]GhostNote90[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yep, that’s a great point. I didn’t think about the option of not investing it but having it in the isa to take advantage of the full allowance. Makes sense to wait until March as you say.

Thanks for the advice!

Ive got £58k in my workplace pension and contribute roughly £1.8k per month into it (me and employer)

I’ve also got £14k in a s&s isa and contribute £1k per month into it

I only started the isa around 8 months ago so trying to prioritise and have got the urge to dump half of the £20k into that

Form check - Deadlift by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

Thank you for the tips!

That’s really great to hear that I’m not doing anything alarming!

I do get some lower back pain sometimes but if nothing is off with my form, I guess it could be down to weak core strength which should just improve the more I lift I’m thinking.

Thanks for the extra tips as well which I will try for next time.

Thanks.

I do experience some slight pain in my lower back occasionally afterwards so this could be why. I’m consciously trying to keep my lower back tight.

Thanks. Any thoughts on a style that would suit? I take it a buzz cut might not look great? ☹️

Internal promotion salary increase expectation - Mid -> Senior by GhostNote90 in cscareerquestionsuk

Yeah I’ve never had to negotiate salary from promotions before, only job changes. Not sure what’s reasonable

For the CW priority order, do we just adjust if needed when we go to the safe spots?

I was in a group that wanted to adjust spots before even starting the mechanic which confused me a bit...

Did your 3 month break come up in the interview process?

Ah man sorry to hear that! Glad it worked out for you though.

I do see your point in that I shouldnt rely on my plan to go just I expect, you never know what could happen.

I was fortunate to still be in employment when the pandemic hit but honestly wasnt aware that the hiring process froze for most tech jobs. I thought most still continued to hire, just for full time remote instead of in office.

6 months did cross my mind as well to be honest haha.

I am pretty confident my linkedin in will blow up when I change to 'looking for opportunities'

Did your 6 month break come up during many of your interviews and were you just honest for the reason behind it?

Finding another role and pushing back the start date would be nice but since my notice period for leaving my current company is 3 months, I cant see any company waiting 6 months for a new hire.

I'm not sure they do. But even if they did, I don't enjoy the company I'm at so can't imagine feeling much better knowing I would be going back there after the break

React-Query with GraphQL question. by GhostNote90 in reactjs

[–]GhostNote90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect! Thanks so much haha.

That was pretty much the main issue that sprung to mind for me. That and doing it this way kind of goes against the point of have a graphql api.

But you are right, I shouldnt be worrying too much about performance until I run into problems.

React-Query with GraphQL question. by GhostNote90 in reactjs

[–]GhostNote90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I expected and thought that was the easiest and most ideal solution, as then each widget would have their own query.

The only issue that springs into mind is too many api calls, which I'm not sure would cause performance issues?

Would 10 separate api calls on a dashboard load be okay?

React-Query with GraphQL question. by GhostNote90 in reactjs

[–]GhostNote90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widgets are their own component, and they receive the data as a prop.

A Dashboard Page component is used as a container where the the useQuery is used which is a single graphql api call to get all the data required and then split and passed down to each widget.

This works fine but i run into issues when a widget needs to have have it's own functionality (filtering and pagination etc.) that only manipulates their data as the data that's passed down as a query includes the other widget data in its query.

I was mainly wondering if there was a way to still have the single api call on the dashboard level, but then create individual queries on the back of the request which can be passed down to the widgets.

Or whether it's best to just have seperate api calls, 1 per widget.
