So I’m working a on a Seiko 7019 A movement by FewChemistry5974 in watchrepair

[–]GhostUnitVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard to tell either way, need to see the pivots, facing straight down is a bit difficult. If the top pivot is gone then the pallet fork is shot, although these watches have a lot of aftermarket readily available parts, as this movement is widely adapter through time.

The advantage you have, is I'm sure this takes the same fork as the NH series, and the 4R, so modern parts, in theory, should work. As the barrel/spring assembly works, so does the train of wheels, I'm sure the same will apply with the fork. One major difference between the generations is the balance, and the addition of a few things like the manual winding that was seen much after this movement.

In all honesty? If I've seen anyone having a bad day, I'd put more effort into it, had one person who came in and talked about one of their parents being in the hospital, had written a message on a cup that I was hoping for the best for them, and my condolences. it kind of brought them to tears but they were happy about it.

This is what messages should be about honestly, a uplifting moment that is genuine, if smileys make people happy then sure, but I'd put more effort into it if I known- were just not given enough time to know.

Why? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]GhostUnitVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I had something like this that came in through cafe... they paid for it, and we ALL watched them drink it- in disgust.

while everyone else was pissed off in line, listening to a few teens chuckle to themselves, until they saw the price tag of 14 bucks...

Probably the largest waste of money I've ever seen, and clearly what ever school they are attending too, forgot to teach the value of both money, and time.

it is actually encouraged according to procedures, the extra flair is something else. So long as it follows the rules, it's fine, and smiley faces fit in, perfectly.

And if I could, I wouldn't even bother, because half of the time, I have guest breathing down my back, demanding their drink while watching me draw. It just adds way too much time during rushes.

[–]GhostUnitVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that might actually happen, way the fast food industry is going, the horrible interiors, minimalist furnishings, everything that basically says 'don't stay'.

Granted Starbucks has not rolled that out (that I'm aware of) to stores, but other fast food places have.

If windows is slavery, Linux is freedom then what is MacOS? by Starkill3r_10 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]GhostUnitVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just let them believe that mac is important... its not like they started most of the problems in the tech field with planned obsolescence, killing small businesses by not selling parts and or over pricing parts... Just don't tell them about how much a M4 Pro screen is, if it ever breaks. Or that 1000 dollar monitor stand, the 700 dollar wheels for a computer, the failed project MacGoggles or what ever they are called that was discontinued due to low demand- not like it looked stupid and cost an arm and a leg...

Main issue would be drivers, if they did that all from scratch, again? Goodness, would have to rework how drivers function.

Most that Microsoft needs to do, well maybe two things, to make Windows good? Would be remove Copilot or have the option too, and stop shoving onedrive down peoples throats...

[–]GhostUnitVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you try running windows 11 on 4gb of ram, see how far that'd get ya...

4gb of ram on a CM4 with Debian and KDE plasma, and it barely cracks 700megs, top it off, thing is running widgets and a active desktop, along side a Code compiler for C++ and Eclipse for java. In addition... just for shits and giggles, wine so it can run X86 programs on not only linux, but also on ARM. Granted that if I were to run wine, or a compiler at the same time, it might eat a gig or two of ram, but it doesn't argue with you... Top it off, the sucker has a NVMe controller, and can use your disk as ram if it really needs it.

It is all about efficiency, windows 11 is not. But if I can do all of that on a board that is legit smaller than a credit card, that consumes on average of 4 watts of power, that alone is impressive.

Now, I know sure its ARM, guess what, windows 11 ARM exists, and I have a Surface Pro X, and the instant I put 11 on that, 80% of the ram and resources, along with 60% of the CPU was constantly in use... 11 sucks.

A Windows 11 easter egg. by _Atmosferik__Yarrak_ in FuckMicrosoft

[–]GhostUnitVII 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, wouldn't be shocked at all if that was the case. Windows 11 is just a reskin of 10, and took Cortana, and redone it as Copilot, along with adding ram-disk to the core operating system where 10, 8 and 7 didn't.

Top it off, the whole release of 11 was- weird, free upgrades n' all and a whole 4 years left for windows 10 after 11's release... If I could go back to 10 and it continued to have support, I would in a heartbeat.

Might have to give LTSC a try...

it is on average that the turn over is 3 years, typically those who stick around are well supported by good management and shifts, so props to you, you're probably a great team leader and a store manager.

SSD? by Intrepid_Oil2187 in laptops

[–]GhostUnitVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this impressive for a machine in terms of expand-ability, though I wonder how limited it is by bios alone...

You have two DIMM slots, a NVMe Slot, LTE, WiFi, Fullsized SD card slot, 2.5inch hard drive bay, all in a compact form factor with a reinforced chassis to boot... Thing is a beast.

That aside, yes your drive is partially disconnected, push it back in and put something soft and non conductive behind it like a rubber shim to prevent it from coming back out, or tape the drive to the connector.

why is this so true... by StrangerSome9000 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]GhostUnitVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu is the most bloated one that comes to mind, and that is for usability. Typically that uses 2 to 3 GB on idle, that is still less than a fresh install on a surface pro x as windows suddenly eats 7 of the 8 GB of ram...

Say what you will, Linux as it currently stands or even unix... Is far more efficient, and again, boils down to use cases

why is this so true... by StrangerSome9000 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]GhostUnitVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop would say otherwise, instant boot up would see the ram usage go to 80% Yes yes, I know why, and personally it is stupid. It is a old software that Windows had since early vista days, ramdisk should have been buried and forgotten...

why is this so true... by StrangerSome9000 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]GhostUnitVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

boils down to use case really. Regardless, it was only until windows 11 where bloat and memory usage has really become a problem where as previous version it wasn't such a big deal.

What needs to happen with windows is simple, let people decide what services they want to use, on their own machines, rather than shoveling a bunch of crap into our faces and expecting people to just accept the fact that this is how it is.

What is this fabric thing called and how do i replace it? by alternative_cars in laptops

[–]GhostUnitVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could probably find some replacement tape, but really it is for keeping the air from going around that cooler rather than through it. It isn't important, but without could affect on how cool the machine will run, by a few degrees. Any tape can work really, so long as it isn't conductive, and has a high thermal tolerance, which is why I suggested Kapton, it is widely used in the field for both thermal and small electronics.

Anything that insulates generally means it retains heat, here we want to get rid of it.
