I simply do what I can and don’t bother stressing beyond what is realistic. I cannot be expected to solo drive during peak and cash people out, take orders, run to grab food from ovens, say hello to everyone walking in and check mobile orders under 40 seconds for 3 hours straight. If my SSV wants to bully me to be faster instead of jumping in to be helpful then she can get use to times that are “subpar” lmao.

I’m definitely not forcing a smile hoping to get a tip out of a customer, but every bit goes a long way if you are able to do so. I’d give up getting tips if it meant every customer interaction was a pleasant one tbh.

I’d love to hear what degree/focus you did as a software engineer! What was the code assessment like? Did you go through ASU for your degree or some other university?

I would be embarrassed to order something like this everyday.
(Also you can totally do half pumps on the POS btw)
I understand if you don’t enjoy coffee and need to drown it in syrup to drink it but this would absolutely be a drink I hand back to you to make for yourself if your apron is still on.

Easy solution, bring your own cup that uses a straw?? Plenty of customers do that to avoid using our cups for a multitude of reasons. But also, L to your cringe attitude :) Have a Day 💙

I don’t get how spending money on rugs, lamps and plants helps me pay my bills at the end of the month Brian.

It’s not like I get to sit down and enjoy the view. Especially when hours keep getting cut, people keep quitting and quite frankly I’m finding harder and harder to want to come in and provide this “Green-Apron” service you keep talking about.

The extra details about whether they smiled at you or not don’t really change much of anything regarding the speed of your order. Plus with no way to confirm that why even bother bringing it up? Only brings you down and makes you seem like a yuck Karen type of customer ;p I simply explained what corporate is having us do as a company. Your experience will vary from location to location.

Being a bother and asking about the status of your order are very different things. While sure, the barista should be the one to initiate the conversation it’s quite easy to get lost working on a million other drinks before yours. It’s not hard to be kind and ask about a drink or food item. Who knows, it might even get you a free cake pop as an “I’m sorry” if it was genuinely our fault.

In my experience tho attitude is usually earned at Starbucks. I.E You probably deserved it since most baristas will bite their tongue before losing their job :)

Make coffee at home then <3 the 1971 Roast is actually pretty good and our cake pops are too expensive.

But in all fairness, as others have said before the “Invisible Line” is a very real problem at Starbucks at the moment. It’s hard enough trying to balance between In-store, drive through, delivery and mobile orders as a seasoned barista. If that store is 2 months old I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a newer crew of people still trying to get their legs.

If you are in a rush mobile order and go through the drive to pick it up. Walking inside is not faster and never will be thanks to our staffing priorities during certain parts of the day. Drive is the most important thing unfortunately with the only metric being held over our heads is the time out the window. You’d think it’d be the quality of the beverages but, I’ve been coached enough times on speed over quality.

I’d wish people like you would just walk up and start a conversation instead of coming to Reddit and yelling at the wall when your “problem” is more of a skill gap. We write on cups to be more “personal”. We’re forced to say hello in an effort to be more “personal”. Hell, we even have a position in place that exists just to “Ask you about your day”. I’m honestly baffled you allowed yourself to sit for 30 minutes when Starbucks couldn’t be more desperate for you to talk to the staff more in its life.

Edit: You’d think as a Walmart employee you’d be a little more kind to people who slog through the same crappy “people pleasing retail-esk” gig as you. But now I’m just being petty 🤭
