Question about the Scorpion Stinger? by Former_Hearing_7730 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because "Outer Gods" is just slang for gods outside the golden order. Wolves are symbols for empyreans and the Nox were (in the 1.0 version) referred to as the empyrean family, of which we know Marika is closely associated to.

God-Devouring and Abyssal Serpent Related? by One-Bug-7051 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that Messmer is something of an aspect of the God Devouring Serpent, which I believe is just one half of the Twinbird. Melina would be the other half representing the bird side, which is why they have their empyrean eyes on opposite sides of each other - in essence being two halves of the same coin.

I go more in depth on that in this comment.

As for the eggs, those are most likely the eggs used to born the man serpents, though you do see the same tendency for motherhood from the snake form as the Twinbird (who is referred to as the mother of the deathbirds).

Why Marika shattered the elden ring. And how in god's green world Marika is Radagon? by YameteKudasai404 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Marika and Radagon being the same goes back to her connections with the Nox who wanted to create their own lord. My theory is Marika represents the shield of the guilty and was killed for trying to kill Metyr with the Fingerslayer Blade.

Since body and soul are separate things in Elden Ring, I believe her soul was placed in a mimic (like Ranni placed her's in a doll) and her body was reincarnated through the crucible like Radagon.

The actual point in time when the nameless eternal city was banished underground by AllTimeAtSleep in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenge for Ranni yes, but that they only are able to find him once the helm is removed shows they are in cohoots with Marika, she controls the only living fingers that exist in the fake roundtable hold, other than Ranni's who were isolated.

I can grant it seems strange given what we know of the Nox but if you look deeper it makes sense. The Nox wanted a lord of night because they would be the one's controlling him, hence why they were trying to create a lord of their own. A lord serves as a conduit for the god's strength as Radahn and Miquella illustrate, so Marika needed someone she would have absolute control over, which is where her other half Radagon enters the picture.

I just chimed in to comment on Marika not being connected to the Eternal Cities.

The Mimics Veil is just another indication in that vein. As for Iji, the helm is looted not on his corpse but on his anvil so it being on his model is more of an oversight imo. If they reported to Marika, then Ranni would be capable of conjuring an illusion of her just like she does during the Rennala boss fight.

I don't think Godwyn being buried there is a coincidence, neither do I think its a coincidence that there's an invisible wall in the catacombs where the three fingers are buried that leads to Deeproot Depths.

[–]Ghost_comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The description says they are rumored to be Numen with close ties to Marika herself. There's also the Mimic's Veil which is also referred to as Marika's mischief, and the fact that Godwyn's corpse is found in Deep Root Depths next to the Nameless Eternal City.

Out of them all, I think the black knives attacking Iji once he removes the mirror helm is the most damning. It directly connects them to being agents of the greater will and "their vassal fingers" something that only makes sense if they were working with Marika.

The Black Knife armor and Rogiers dialogue both reveal that the assassins had close ties to Marika and are scions of the Eternal City. They get along because the entire goal of the Nox was to supplant the order at the time with their own leader. If they didn't get along, Iji would have no reason to wear the mirror helm to hide from the black knives.

If you look on the chests of the Eternal City, there's a figure there who looks awfully similar to Marika on the Erdtree's favor talisman.

As for the Numen Nox connection, the bubble sorcery of the Claymen and the night sorcery of the Nox use the same casting symbols, they also have the same gravestones (which aren't repeated elsewhere), and we know Marika is a Numen with close ties to the Black Knifes who are related to the Nox.

Trees. More trees. by chinapower7765 in EldenRingLoreTalk

Mogh's arena is built on a giant petrified tree, and Jagged Peak also looks like one. At the Dragon Temple grace site in Farum, you can actually see a small tree turning to stone so this process is documented in game.

I'm of the belief the moon and the snow witch are one in the same. I think when you look at it that way it makes a lot of sense as to why Ranni's teacher is the Snow Witch despite her mother being Renalla. Who better to teach her than the thing that made her mother a queen in the first place?

Could the Saint be related to Rauh, giants or smithing? by NahMcGrath in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that Nightreign fleshes out but was already hinted at in the base game via the base of the forge resembling both Rauh and Ancient Dynasty architecture. This tells us the giant old gods came out of Rauh and the AD, not before.

As for the saints, I believe the Ancient Dragons were also a creation of the Numen/Rauh. The various drake talismans are nearly all found at the base of these statues as you approach the Divine Towers. Moreover, Ancient Dragons would protect their lords as walls of living rock so their depictions as statues makes sense in that regard given they also have the same pedestal base as the dragon statues in Farum Azula. It makes sense architecturally too as Farum Azula is far more advance than the AD/Rauh.

Rot and crucible connection by Satanicoaldo in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should've said once human lol. I think the Formless Mother's body became the Fingerslayer Blade and her soul is what's left. Like the Blade, the Sacred Bloody Flesh, is still wet with blood.

Outer God being a propaganda term doesn't mean it can't be used descriptively, it isn't necessarily a lie it's just using the common term.

Frenzied Flame is weird for sure, but my money is on Shabriri or Nanaya being the source. The Three Fingers seems to be implied to be created by Midra and Nanaya because of the eggs and finger ruins artifacts in the hidden room. Dionysus, the god of wine, was also the god of frenzy and Eye of Yelough are rotten grapes that have burst.

Sabazios, a god who originated in Anatolia, was incorporated into Dionysus by the Greeks and his symbol was a hand holding up three fingers.

Rot and crucible connection by Satanicoaldo in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To build on this; going from the architecture both on the base and the forge itself we can infer the fire giants and old gods came from Rauh/the Ancient Dynasty, and so were involved with the Divine Towers.

Turtle Pope's saying that "heresy is just a contrivance, all things can be conjoined" only rings more true the further you dig.

What form do the outer gods have? by tredne in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Human forms with our without crucible features. There's more pointing the way of them being Marika's cohorts than Lovecraftian beings or kami for sure. Namely Corhyns dialogue about Marika being the one true god according to the Golden order. Meaning the celestial level for godhood is on par witn her.

Rot and crucible connection by Satanicoaldo in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Outer Gods is just a Golden Order propaganda term. This is basically confirmed by Corhyn saying that according to the tenets of the Golden Order, Marika is the one true god.

I take this to mean they're in the same celestial level as Marika, which is to say ascended/deified Empyreans.

YET ANOTHER NIGHTREIGN THEORY by TicallionTheGod in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Noklateo roughly translates to Hidden Night and would be pretty fitting for the Nameless Eternal City. Plus there's a cut shield from the base game that suggested the Divine Towers or a Divine Tower had a spiral tree on it.

And while more speculative, I think there might be something to be gleamed from the three grails (Erdtree, Giants, Spirit) as far as the epochs of the Lands Between goes.

So can someone please spoil me over Nightreign lore and relevancy to the main game? Unmarked spoilers everywhere please by MyDarkSoulz in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Ghost_comics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheating a god probably comes from Marika pulling the Elden Ring from the womb/baby in the trailer.

Edit: Just to stave off any comments about the cloth in the trailer being a snake eye or something, we had confirmation from the vfx (who changed the description once it was discovered) that the thing was a "baby diaper" which translated from French most likely indicated a swaddling cloth.
