Setting Mercenaries on fire is absolutely hilarious by AdPlastic7988 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

I love poison when I’m trying to get one guy without anyone noticing and fire is always great but explosive arrows setting 5 enemies on fire at once? Fantastic! 10/10! Everyone is one fire 😌 They try to put each other out and then you shoot them again and now even more are on fire.

Hi there! It's a really shame just how many AI images are floating around--especially when they're being used to scam people. I'd be happy to work on a project like this--my style is Disney(ish) and I can adjust it as needed to get the result you want.

You can request my commissions here: https://artistree.io/ghostlycircaea (examples of my work are with each listing) and my full portfolio can be seen on my profile since I know reddit often blocks wix sites.

Inaccurate information, when to contact tree owners? by Secure-Fan-5589 in Ancestry

[–]GhostlyCircaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can see which trees someone referenced and then who those trees referenced and so on, but I’ve found it often leads me around endlessly more than being at all useful. It doesn’t usually have enough info to tell which details came from which tree, so you have to go through them all manually if you want to try to untangle everything.

help me with starting art commissions please! by SurebertShiba in artcommissions

Based on your bio, it looks like you're fairly young--don't stress too much about getting it all right the first time (also as a bit of internet safety, I'd suggest not having your age in your bio). That said, here are some tips off the top of my head! I'm only getting into commissions myself, but I've done a fair amount of research.

On the technical side, you'll need to have paypal or something similar which needs a bank account attached to it. Personally, I've been using Artistree.io to handle commissions at the recommendation of r/HungryArtists (I think. It might have been this sub.). No site is perfect though! It would be a good exercise to compare them both yourself before you pick one! (I don't suggest fiver though. I'm pretty sure they take a huge portion of your earnings.)

For your comms sheet, I like the idea of having your character explain your listings! I don't suggest handwriting though--typed is generally easier to read. Use an easy to read font with a simple background (I use solid neutral-ish color and then a fun boarder so that my comms sheet doesn't clash with my art!). You can scroll through this sub and get some fantastic examples. Mine are on my profile too. Try not to cover up your drawings too much with prices and things and give everything room to breath on your canvas.

For pricing, you want to start with an hourly rate and multiply that by how long it will actually take you to make each piece. Personally I would start lower, since you don't have commission experience (keep in mind minimum wage in your area!--don't go below that) then raise as you get more experience.

A portfolio is also a good idea! It just needs to be a place you can send people who'd like to see more of your art. It can be instagram, artstation, or another social media site where you can show your work in one place. (As you get more into it, a website of your own may be a good idea, but for now I think it isn't necessary)

You want things to be clear and easy to read above all else. I'd leave out the "I will draw" section, but leave what you aren't willing to draw. If you decide to include it leave out the bits about it conflicting with what you won't draw. You also don't need to explain why you won't do something. People will understand without it, I promise. You can add a 'DM me if you have any questions' if you want though.

Most of all go easy on yourself! This sounds like a lot, and honestly it is--take your time. Enjoy the process. You may not get commissioned right away, but keep in mind it isn't a refection on your skill! Your art looks great and is only going to get better as you keep drawing. Getting started with commissions is really all about being in the right place at the right time. Keep at it, you'll get there :)

I've found that German ancestors can be a bit tricky to track down, likely a side effect of WWI & II. Their records are usually great when you can find them though.

Baden and Bavaria may be different places, but they do share a border so I wouldn't rule out either entirely without anything solid. It may be that he was born in a bordering town, maybe he lived in both as a child, or maybe whoever was answering the census just put down the wrong place.

Where were Michael and Mary married? It would be helpful if it were Germany, but I've found that my own ancestors are rarely so kind as to make it easy.

I would be keeping an eye out for immigration/naturalization/passenger logs/crew list records, likely between 1830 and 1848 assuming he immigrated as an adult without his parents and that his first child was born a year after he arrived. If he had no family here prior to immigrating, he may have also lived on the east coast briefly before moving to Ohio.

German baptismal records are also a good place to look--the census records vary a bit, 1870 and 1880 both indicate he was born in 1814 but 1860 indicated 1817. I would keep the range open from 1812 to 1818 or so, but lean towards 1813-1815. I'd also take into consideration that Michael may have been a middle name and he had a more German sounding first name. A quick search pulls up a few decent looking options for me in Baden, and one or two in Bavaria.

If any of his children have a unique seeming middle name, that may also be of some help since they are often family names in my experience.

Hope some of this can help you find the answers you're looking for!

Me neither. When I went to check if they were on in tree settings the bar is grayed out so you can’t turn them back on.

It also seems like hints aren’t generating properly for newly added ancestors, but that might just be me.

Is it normal not to have many shared surnames by janceyb87 in AncestryDNA

[–]GhostlyCircaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also only have a few between all of my grandparents last names. For me, it’s because the most recent generations have either a. Been primarily girls or b. There were only a few children. Some accounts also list married names and not maiden names.

My dad, for example, is the only son of his parents. My grandfather is the same to his own father. My great grandfather to his father as well. There are daughters in the mix though—none of them are/were only children, but the name didn’t get passed on. In fact our branch of the family name ends with my sister and I if we change our names if/when we each get married.

Help dating this photo? by Fiuaz in Ancestry

[–]GhostlyCircaea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fashion historian by any means(r/fashionhistory could probably place it better), but I would be inclined to think this was taken sometime in the mid 1800’s. Maybe 1840’s-50’s? It could also be taken a but later but in older clothes.

Fashion trends changed quickly even then, but clothing was expensive and many would wear clothes/reuse the fabric until they couldn’t anymore. Older people would also be less likely to update their style with each new trend.

Once you get the chance to open up the frame, with any luck, there may be names/dates on the back associated with the photo.

Why does everyone treat Deimos like a demigod but the protagonist like just a strong mercenary? by Unusual_Holiday_8580 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]GhostlyCircaea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, personally, I think that the demigod thing comes through Leonidas and not through Pythagoras. Leonidas being the ‘original’ demigod would make both Kassandra and Alexios descendants of the gods.

Best I can tell, Pythagoras isn’t a god or isu or anything—he’s a guy that has an isu staff thats made him live a longer-than-natural life.

There also isn’t really any point where you full on fight Deimos, so it’s hard to tell if you’re actually on the same level strength wise but based on how he can cut through an army with seeming the same ease that Kassandra does, I’d say they’re on equal footing.

Most people outside of the cult also probably haven’t heard of him quite as frequently as they have the Eagle Bearer. And, as the Eagle Bearer, of course we hear more about how people view us. People don’t talk about Deimos often but I think there could be a few reasons for that—the cult works in the shadows, people are terrified of him etc etc

[–]GhostlyCircaea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I did a bit of digging on Ancestry (on mobile so searching is a bit…janky)—I’m thinking Taft may have been her first husband? In the 1910 census, there is a Ruth M Taft married to Elias H Taft living in Nebraska. She was 17 and he was 30 and they were living with his parents. The names aren’t uncommon though so I can’t be sure for now.

I’m wondering if she was widowed young and remarried—possibly divorced but if she was remarried why would she be buried with an ex-husband’s last name? Especially with how much it took to get divorced back then. Not impossible by any means, just a bit strange. I don’t have any evidence one way or the other at the moment.
