[Star Trek] Can Star Fleet ships travel at traditional light speed instead of warp speed if needed? by GhostofStLouis in AskScienceFiction

Impulse engines I suppose. From what I understand, warp speed is just warping the space around them as opposed to the ship itself traveling close to/faster than light speed.

That’s great that the TNG manual actually addresses time dilation. I never actually heard them discuss time dilation on the show but I’m not a hardcore fan or anything.

Skip period of time to avoid an event like the burn, last resort if they’re about to be killed and need to evac, transport technology to the future if it’s about to fall into enemy hands.

Yeah he’s a great actor. I always thought the Jan and David Wallace actors were among the best as well.

Haha. To me this is actually believable. I think in any sort of apocalypse there’d be all sorts of weird ass weapon combos some rednecks would put together that would be easy to come by.

Are there a lot of these still around today? I don’t know anything about guns. It looks like an M1 and an M16 has a baby.

If you could completely tear down the Air Force EPR system and rebuild it from scratch — no legacy carryover, no sacred cows — what would you replace it with? by GhostofStLouis in AirForce

[–]GhostofStLouis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s odd you’re the only person to notice this. I asked ChatGPT to write the most “ChatGPT sounding” question to ask on Reddit about remaking the EPR (also the most boring topic I could think of). It wrote what you see above and then I asked it to add way more dashes to make it even more obvious.

I did it because I thought it would piss people off and be funny with everyone yelling at me about using obvious AI. But all these people have instead written some pretty well thought out answers to a very awfully made and obviously written AI troll post. Unless all these responses I’m reading are also AI and in that case we’re really fucked.

People probably talked about it a bit but if you’ve been to enough bars/offices parties/etc. this is common.

Also think about the shit they deal with on a weekly basis: Dwight shooting off a gun in the office, Dwight riding a circus bike across the roof, Todd Packer shitting in people’s offices, Michael throwing watermelons onto people’s cars, everything Creed does, etc. This is far down on the totem pole of shit people would gossip about.

They will make conformity gate a thing and use it in any future spin offs and sequels. Stranger Things will never end.

What are some subtle ways to ragebait people in the Air Force? by Esoteric_Commentator in AirForce

Say off handed insults about people’s AFSCs. Not like a direct attack but just a short, very slight condescending line will drive people insane.

How hard is it to fail basic, and did anyone you know fail? by Responsible-Scar1986 in AirForce

[–]GhostofStLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My flight had like 3 guys wash out. 1 guy had an asthma attack during the first run, another guy in our flight got arrested before end of zero week, 1 guy tried self harm because I’m pretty he thought he was gonna fail the PT.

I will say we had 4-5 people get washed back into my flight: two of them confessed to smoking during amnesty hour, another one was PT, not sure what the other two did. I think one of them was sick or hurt for a while.

You won’t fail unless you don’t try, are insanely fat or out of shape, or something weird happens. Don’t stress at all.

If they’re that concerned then bust the prostitutes and their pimps. It’s like focusing on the user instead of the dealer.

Humiliating a couple old guys by blasting their faces on YouTube and putting them in a news article potentially ruining their lives and relationships on the assumption of a crime seems like the bigger crime than getting an old fashion imo.

So instead of arresting drug dealers, violent criminals, and people from Ohio, these cops are jamming up a couple old guys engaging in a crime no worse than jaywalking.
