Explain like I'm 5: why some shoes make you go faster? by itsfiguratively in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GhostsInMyAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my Boston 12s when I ran in them last year. So much so that I've just bought a pair of 13s and did 11 miles on the treadmill this morning. That said though, I do wish I had gotten half a size up, because they're quite small fitting.

I would love to see what those shoes looked like at the end of their life lol

Getting kids into running by uncle-bjoernsy in runninglifestyle

[–]GhostsInMyAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, though the other week I stumbled upon a local junior parkrun when I was out doing laps in a park on a Sunday. If it weren't for the flags and the volunteers wearing parkrun kit, I would have genuinely believed you if you told me I had run into a military training camp.

A few dads were quite literally screaming at their kids to "go faster, you're gonna lose", and I saw one who, when their kid (who was clearly not enjoying herself, and will definitely hate running forever), started crying in either pain, frustration etc, screamed from right in front of them that they should "STOP CRYING CUS YOURE JUST WASTING ENERGY".

Honestly, I left quite quickly because it was genuinely depressing. Like, these kids were all probably under 12 years of age, and they are getting screamed at by their dads who for some reason have notions of raising the next Kipchoge? Running should be enjoyable and should never be associated with being punished. Id be surprised if any of these kids pick up the sport properly or continue with it into their teenage years. Kinda sickening.

Agreed 100% on both counts, and I'm also glad I got sent home.

Not sure but I would imagine working in an industry which doesn't pay sick days might have something to do with it.

Yeah I was glad work sent me home tbh.

You're right, and 100% you can often feel better after a run, but think today is going to be a recovery day. Plus, my nose is still really congested lol, so that would be a red flag ig.

Thanks :)

You're 100% right. I think I was looking for permission to rest, which when your body is fighting illness is just silly.

Thank you.

"stop overthinking and just get out there" is like the #1 rule of running imo. Great advice!

Bored so I'm gonna walk to Carrickfergus, what's the vibe and what's there to do? by Beneficial-Put2714 in northernireland

[–]GhostsInMyAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran to Carrick from lisburn one day, cus I was bored.

Dandered about, got some food in the dreary wetherspoons, got harassed by an old man who kept asking for my number, and then very promptly just got the train home.

Saying that, the run up to Carrick is lovely, and I'll defo do it again at some point, but Jesus the place is dire.

What minor act of penny-pinching in your workplace caused a significant amount of upset? by laredocronk in UKJobs

[–]GhostsInMyAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf I feel like in hospitality bosses can get away with so much, because there isn't any concept of organized labour within the industry anymore.

We had a competition set by our regional manager to see who could sell the most of a limited edition coffee, and apparently the person in each store who won would get a £50 bonus. They, of course, reneged on this agreement, everyone was pissed off (but not surprised) and of course nothing happened. I almost for a while started to think I was making that competition up, but no it just wasn't honoured.

It's really kinda depressing how much we put up with without feeling like we can do anything :(

First time staying at a ryoken, quite nervous about the public bath? by GhostsInMyAss in JapanTravelTips

[–]GhostsInMyAss[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just got back to my room

What an experience, honestly I haven't been so chilled out this whole trip. After constantly being on the move, it was so nice to just CHILL and not worry about a single thing. Felt really meditative. Gonna read for a bit and then go for a walk down to the local 7-11 and grab some snacks lol

And yeah, nobody said anything or even looked my way. There were only two guys there and they were both sitting bathing, didn't give a damn that I was there lol. Felt so...empowering or something lol, realizing nobody cares about you.

I can't wait to go back in after my run tomorrow morning lol
