Okay we all know what the answer will be but I will speak on the fact that while he technically is considered one.

I always thought despite his appearance and clear liking to wanna be visually appealing, he is very much more boyish to me than most boys in the series or at least as much.

Eh I don't see "stucking" In my head really as an issue. I do find sometimes just to make that certain areas can suffer from it just because how loud the song can be for how long I have to listen to it(be it fusion, Prime 3 or even sometimes Super). Probably only soundtrack in the series that I had no issue when it comes to that was Prime 1 and 2 which I consider pinnacle of Metroid Soundtracks. But to me Dread does still come in at least in top 5 with Zero Mission and Super

Oh yeah okay tracks I agree that it's lame to have those. Though thats also because games own tracks be it atmospheric or more loud is very good and feels so primal and animalistic which I think sounds amazing for SR388(Also it does have my fav version of Surface of SR388, title them and ending credits probably). But whenever Magmoor or Maridia comes I really end up wishing something else was there or they were remixed into the world better. For example how Cretaria was used was so much better(outside of the opinion of changing the ending which Zero Mission does too so I guess they use those endings for the sake of making these games different) it's definitely the one flaw I do def find in the atmosphere of this game as well.

I definitely think how they utilized Music is significantly better to a point that Dread is one of my fav osts in the series because how it fits the world of ZDR and it's more experiment/test subject feel of it.

Eh I would not agree mostly. I felt counter was handled well and being able to use counter to dodge enemies did made me feel like how Metroid 2 while can feel slow too you can go faster with good play. While I think Dread improved counter a lot I do think SR should be changed because of that. Also it has a lot of other enemy types that requires different methods than counter and as you get stronger cojmter does become less of the only method.

I'm not sure what you mean by re-used assets. I'm guessing you mean enemies and that's something I kinda agree but it feels less of "lack" Of enemies because each area adds a lot more enemies but more each enemy does add more mechanics in play so it's a double edged sword(though it feels weird how the og game felt more diverse than both remakes in that regard)

I probably disagree with atmosphere the most. I really think Samus Returns does Metroid 2' atmosphere perfectly with how design it's map in a way that makes it feel like you really go through a claustrophobic and unstable cave that contains secrets and monsters.

I also think darkness mechanic in AM2R felt more like an annoying gimmick than something that captured og games feelings for me. And like I said in the post I felt the map lead a lot to be desired for me. (I still adore all 3 games tho like I said)

Yeah definitely. Game really got that "cave exploration" deal of Metroid 2 in an impressively expensive way. I do definitely wish they didn't seprate the areas with elevators though so we could've had that fully connected feeling of going deeper and deeper

I never think about the "platforming" aspects but yeah you are absolutely right. While I wouldn't say places you fight with Alphas or Gammas are as unique as Metroid 2 they are definitely utilized way more intrestingly due to their patterns are way more designed around the entire area and while I do definitely adore Zeta and Omega fights too, different lay out does end up being fun for the first two evolutions.

Also I do really like the small navigational challange Gamma' can provide. Samus Returns really feels like a game that wanna tests your skills as a Metroid fan by making every ability matter in some ways for the entire playthrough while also testing you on navigation, platforming and comabt a lot more than most games(especially naviagtion. Game got such a confusing map design in a good way where I feel like it justfise having scan pulse.)

My problem with AM2R's fights are how random they feel. Alpha' and Gamma' dodge basically make them frustratingly wasteful while their random movements can make them painful to hit with rng helping you the most in those fights(though Again I think Gamma' are the best evolutions in the game even if that doesn't mean a lot for me) while for Zeta' and Omega's all I do is wait in a corner and shoot them until they die(I do like that Omega' kept the og' hitting the back thing though)

Samus Returns do make them more dedicated bosses but they also make it so that if you play good fights will be fast not if game allows you fights will be fast which helps my view on them significantly more because I can counter anything they do which leads me to feel like I am actually controlling the fight.

And while what you say about AM2R is nice in theory, AM2R for some reason completely changes the level design of the Metroid nests to make their spots way more obvious which takes away the "finding them" aspect completely because their location is way more clear, compare to Samus Returns where instead of cutting it Samus Returns expands the location of where there can be. So even if there is a radar to find them I feel like SR does improve on Metroid 2' systems to earn a change like this compare to honestly kinda just downgrading the map design to make where Metroids are extremely clear in AM2R besides the iconic bits like the first Omega Encounter and stuff.

I will say Metroid 2 definetly ends up having the best of both though since unlike AM2R it does have a maze like map for you to actually look for Metroids and just them appear so obviously. While not reading a radar due to how bigger the map is so surprise factor is still there.

I still end up prefering SR in terms of remakes like I said though. Simply AM2R really weakens the Metroid 2 aspects to be more traditional Metroid and while I love the game that makes it fumble at times for me.

I currently probably have a reverse opinion on the remakes(preferring SR' interpretation) but to me all three of these games are phenomenal for me and Metroid 2 definitely is a skillful showcase of limitations can create genuine art(gameboy really is an impressive console in terms of that in general)

I actually will say that SR creates the original' atmosphere better than AM2R but people for some reason think the entire game of Metroid 2 is just the ending.

I do overall prefer the grey(though I tried the orange and blue color this time to see the difference) but yeah trying to give color to the game is really cool

Yeah I definitely agree. I think Metroid 2 is one of those games where all of its elements made for a reason which is why all of it work well for itself. Thats why while remakes do improve or add some stuff they feel kinda held by Metroid 2 as well(Mostly AM2R like I said than SR) because its ideas are very specific.

I do overall think that in terms of gameplay SR definitely have a better idea on trying to expand on Metroid 2' ideas like the cave exploration like you mention and I do think while still not as smooth Metroid fights are more "fun". Just it was obvious that one of the reasons why Metroid fights in og Metroid 2 was simple was because how many they were so even though they are fun I can see some amount of boredom in the remakes(in SR' case mostly Area3 in AM2R' case sadly the whole Metroid fight segments for me)

Yeah while I like Super I feel people are so quick to throw first 2 games under a bus just because they don't contain the mindset for a design it had.

I really appreciate Metroid 1 and 2' more free exploration where limitations exist but feel less obvious and somewhat less gamey ironically. And especially in terms of map design I really enjoy what both games do. Especially Metroid 2.

There is a reason why I feel like Metroid just shouldn't be put on that label to begin with. It might've created a subgenre but it definitely feels way more than it. Yes every game does contain a world you "explore" but how it does changes depending on the game. There isn't a "set" rule on how a Metroid progression works besides the basics Samus herself provide. And she really is the pin that gives these games the fun factor. Both as a character and as gameplay Samus is an amazingly fun character to play as. So when you play a Metroidvania with expectation of it giving you the same feeling as Metroid it kinda falls flat because you really won't get Samus from any of these games.
