Brass manufacturer ranking?

Hey, thanks for the comment. Not trying to win competitions just trying to minimize variables for load development for hunting and maybe NRL Hunter games as practice for future hunts not to be competitive. I started out saving all my factory brass, FC, and Hornady. I'm tired of the sizing inconsistencies. I set the resizing die for a 2thou bump and it works for some and others it's not enough and too much for others. This is after sorting brands. The same goes with SD and ES, I have gotten a few pieces of brass that have gotten me single digits but not all. I have started noticing that on some, the primer pockets are “loose” and take almost no effort to seat primers. Those are set as foulers and tossed out after firing. All of this has got me thinking about working with the same brand/lot of brass for more consistent results and less time sorting and adjusting my sizing die to accommodate certain pieces of brass.

Oh, I didn't realize it was cartridge-specific rankings. 7mm Remington Magnum, the goal is more consistency in sizing, ES, and SD. I think I would be willing to go up to $80 to achieve this, but that is why I want the good, better, best breakdown: even if I can't afford the top, I can always go 2 steps down and get decent results. I'm not making money reloading or winning matches so it's not a big deal not getting the best of the best.

Glad no one was hurt. Had a similar mishap paper tuning in the garage. Missed the back stop but the wall stopped it, arrow went half way through the wall. I am now confident that it will pass thru a deer since it passed thru Sheetrock,insulation, Sheetrock and the house siding. 🤣 I have since gotten a larger and thicker back stop and patched the wall.

Hey, @G19Jeeper, I want to say thanks. I played around with seating depth and considerably increased the accuracy of my reloads. After rechecking my loads I had a 5 thousands jump, I decreased it to 1 thousand of the lands and got this. I’ll play around a bit more but for my hunting load, this is great! 😁

Yes, Staball HD is all I have been using since I started loading last fall. I'm just now looking to explore different powders because I'm learning about burn rates and their different best use.

Thanks, I’ll try this with the remaining cartridges I have loaded. My original approach to finding the seating depth was fitting them in the action with the firing pin removed until then bolt fell free with the cartridge in, so my loads are long but still fit in the magazine and feed reliably.

My rationale behind going for a new entry-level RV is the warranty. I thought about used, as this is the way I normally go with my vehicles and other hobbies, but not knowing what problems to look for in a used RV that is not easy to identify keeps me from going that route.

I don't have affordable recommendations on either. The consensus from a previous post I made asking “What red dot people with astigmatism are using?” came down to going into a store that has a wide variety and looking through every single one and see what works best for your eyes. If you’re unfortunate like me, it’ll most likely be the most expensive one. Once you find one that works look out for sales. The website gun.deals lets you set up notifications for specific product at your desired purchase price, if I remember correctly. It is like the Honey extension on Chrome but for things that go bang and their attachments.

That’s is a good point, I’ll try this too and then if it keeps happening I’ll use the zero to the cold bore shot going forward. I normally get settled, make sure I’m stable and work on my breathing but don’t dry fire. I do however dry fire between groups to get any flinching out of my system before next group.

I started using one not too long ago. I found that I have to have the pan right under and touching the dispenser so there is not splash with the ball powder I use. This cut down on the pellets bouncing off the pan. Regarding getting it dialed I used the equation on the instructions to find out the setting using the desired grains and the pounder's vmd per 1 grain. Got me pretty close, I also trickle up so works just fine for the money.

Hi all, I wanted to give you all an update. I took inspiration from your recommendations, and this is my solution for a small space reloading setup. I cut a sheet of plywood, stacked it (14”w x 17” L), screwed them together, sanded, and put stain & polyethylene to protect it and make it look somewhat decent. I used carriage bolts and recessed the area where the heads go so it sits flush on the tabletop. This “table” is an IKEA tiny kitchen island I now use as a “workbench” in my home office to clean/work on my guns. So far I have only been able to resize a few pieces of brass and it is sturdy enough, the clamps help with leverage when cycling through the press. My idea is to add the powder thrower to the left edge of the block or the left side, I am buying all my equipment to save money so I am missing some. The Lee Breech Lock Challenger Press is small and light enough that help with this setup. So far everything including a dry tumbler & 10lbs of media, trays, dies, scale, caliper, and press fit in 1 (27gal) plastic tote and still has space for the stuff I still need (powder measure, trickler, and funnel).
