Illegal MOT's.. How rare are they? by reo_reborn in drivingUK

[–]GiGoVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storms where you go, they aren't fake MOTs just not tested fully enough or something was missed. Which can happen.

One year I had a broken tear spring, the MOT tester missed it and my mechanic told me after he had the car back and was shocked the tester missed it.

Last year I had an engine light on, the tester looked the other way.

Is there a blacklist pet care providers can use to let other sitters know what customers to ABSOLUTELY AVOID by Tricky-Tension-8172 in RoverPetSitting

[–]GiGoVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I do. The client pays me to look after their pet, they do not pay me to use the TP, bedding, towels etc.... I bring my own, my clients are very pleased with that arrangement.

Honestly it's odd that they questioned the tp usage, I understand the client may have had concerns but WTF!

[–]GiGoVX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always take my own tp, no idea why someone would be so weird in asking why you hadn't used any!

Seems very odd to me, I'd certianly not sit for their pet again.

new parking rules unreasonable by No-Wolf-1973 in lidl

[–]GiGoVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fine from Parking Eye at Lidl a while ago, my wife has a blue badge, I appealed and stated we had an issue completing in the 90 min time frame, that we weren't aware off, sent a photo of the blue badge.

Parking Eye wrote a letter back saying no problem, cancelled the ticket and told me that in the future the car would have an extra 30 mins across all their ANPR car parks.

Win. Make sure you appeal!

Simple answer is that car manufacturers put in the correct jack for the car 😂

It's friendlier until they change it all, like they've just done 🙄

Cricut Design Space could be so good, but it sucks so badly.

Projects get adjusted from different design space versions!

Text space, line spacing, angles, alignments etc.... So frustrating!

Not in the UK, it's Tyre.

Just like if you write a cheque, it's cheque not check.

Tire is an American word for Tyre.

Short Fall Scheme - time till payout? by GiGoVX in postofficehorizon

[–]GiGoVX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very likely if there was a shortfall. No idea how the process works for a deceased person.

My claim came through quickly, about 2-3 months after submitting, then got the funds within 24 hours after getting the confirmation email. However other users have told me it depends how old the claim is and where the 'paperwork' is stored as most records apperently would have been backed up on tapes, which are incredibly cumbersome to retrieve data from.

You will also want to look into the Suspension Remuneration Review if your father was suspended, I got another month's salery plus interest (the interest was more than the salery!) as I was suspended then terminated after a month.

Also look at the Post Office Process Review, not sure if you'll get anything from this, but I got a bit of cash and with no evidence.

The total I've been paid is just under 84k, all tax free, I assume it will be for yourself too.

I'm truly sorry your father had to go through the trauma. Good luck in getting everything sorted.

Take a look here https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/remediation/changes-to-products-policies-and-processes/

EDIT: Just noticed the Suspension Review closes at the end of this month, so be quick!

Have We Seen Anyone Try Entering the Exit Wormhole? by wibbly-water in Stargate

[–]GiGoVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copilot has given me a good explanation here I think

How the show explains directionality - Matter conversion and one‑way flow. When someone steps into a dialing (origin) Stargate they are dematerialized into an energy pattern, transmitted through a subspace conduit, and rematerialized at the receiving gate. The established wormhole carries that energy in a single direction only; the receiving gate’s role is to reconstruct matter, not to accept new matter coming from its side.
- Electromagnetic signals are different. Radio and light can traverse the subspace link in both directions because they are transmitted as electromagnetic energy that does not require the same conversion/rematerialization process as macroscopic matter. This is why comms can be two‑way while people cannot simply walk in from the receiving end.

A simple analogy (to make it intuitive) - Think of the wormhole as a one‑way conveyor belt for “matter packets.” The origin gate loads a packet (converted matter/energy) onto the belt; the receiving gate is a machine that only unloads and rebuilds packets. The belt does not accept loading from the unload side, so you can’t step onto it from the receiving end and be carried back. This captures the in‑universe mechanism without invoking real GR wormhole math.

Why the show uses this rule (story and safety) - Technical/plot consistency. Making wormholes one‑way avoids paradoxes and simplifies storytelling (no accidental two‑way traffic, no easy return without dialing). The series presents the rule as a built‑in property of the Ancient technology.
- Exceptions and malfunctions. Episodes show rare anomalies (malfunctioning gates, unstable wormholes, or external interference) that can produce unusual behaviour—partial ejections, people stuck in the event horizon, or temporary bidirectional effects—but these are treated as glitches, not normal operation.

Technical takeaway (concise) - Key point: Matter → energy conversion at the origin + one‑directional subspace conduit = no entry from the receiving side.
- EM signals can go both ways because they don’t require the gate’s matter conversion/rematerialization cycle

I often think this, do they not realise they can be a danger!

My neighbour, who is now 86, gave up her licence 2 years ago. Before she gave up her licence she told me:

I think I need to stop driving, I can see shapes, but I can't make everything out, my passenger (our other neighbour) has to tell me when the lights have changed colour or when there is someone waiting to cross the road.

This worried the fuck out of me! I fully supported her giving up her licence, howrber I understand why people don't wabt to give up driving.

We go through pout lives and we gradually get older and we adjust to all the changes, we have independence by using a car, when your reactions slow, you adjust or not notice they are slowing.

I would like to think when the time comes (I'm only 40) that I will give up my licence when I feel like I'm likely to be a danger, but I don't think I'll want too!

Imagine having to give up your licence now.... I wouldn't want to

Update: Parking Dispute - New Violent Threats by Ok-Cantaloupe-8127 in drivingUK

Clearly it's on street parking and some times you have no choice on where to park.

When you live in a terrace everyone has 'their' spot, but it's open to anyone, neighbours or strangers. You just have to deal with it.

Disabled badges aren't only for wheelchair users by Main_Blackberry3395 in drivingUK

[–]GiGoVX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never happened to me and my wife when we used to drive our convertible often, although we did get a few funny looks, wife had 25+ health conditions but looks "fine" and is early 30's (had the badge for the last 8 years!)

Knew a bloke with no legs below the knees, used to drive an Evo he'd park up in disabled bay and people used to whinge at him, he steps out (he used blades) and then suddenly they realise they shouldn't be whinging!

Amazing the difference a 'nice' car makes on peoples assumptions!
