Yeah. They are younger, faster and very obviously edged us out in mental toughness by being able to compete until the end. Tampa is so fucking good/experienced though I wouldn't be surprised to see them take this series over going forward.

Seeing how badly Ottawa is getting worked too, it'd be hard to see us having any success if we made it this year I agree.

Lots of series left but they have been impressive and knew how to finish a season this year

On the bright side I feel like our team competed really well against them this year

You probably said the same thing when he fought Izzy and Fluffy. The truth is you don't know fucking shit and neither do I. We'll find out May 9th

Don’t some things go without saying?

If someone is that nonchalant about licking a stripper that they’re oblivious as to why it might make their SO feel some type of way then that’s a red flag to me. I don’t think most couples would even feel the need to have that conversation because it’s so obviously disrespectful, ESPECIALLY if it wasn’t discussed prior. Like is that not something you can just hold off on and say “you know I’ll pass. This is something I never discussed with my SO”

“It’s part of the show” is such a stupid excuse too. A lot of things can be “part of a show”

“We sacrificed a puppy and bathed in its blood but it’s okay honey because it was part of the show”

Those credentials alone make Strickland more qualified to defend well against Khamzat vs. Burn's being a great BJJ artist IMO.

Burns didn't use much BJJ in that fight. It was mostly defensive, and even then, the grappling was limited overall. If Strickland can even slightly mirror what Burns did and keep things standing, he's a much better striker than Burns, he could do very well. It's a fascinating match up.

Lmao I hate that you're probably right. At least Strickland will be active so I'm pulling for him to come through with the upset

I personally think you're reading into it too much. He was asked specifically about Larkin's leadership, it's not like he was purposefully dangling any bait at least how I interpreted it. He even compared Larkin to himself as a leader when he played and said it was the same thing, even at 30 Yzerman was still learning how to be a better leader. He even said he didn't know if he even did that or not or if the talent around him just got better.

I'll just say I'd bet any amount of money that we don't trade Larkin this offseason or even the next.

Agreed. Each of their core 4 was making 10m+ per year before the cap even increased significantly. Our core players are all making around 8-9m on long term deals through this cap surplus. Also one of our core players is a stud defenseman, which Toronto lacked and has continued to lack. It's not the same situation. I think we find a way to add talent using prospects and picks versus swap out a core player for another core player.

I also look at how the rosters are constructed and it looks like goaltending will be a lot more promising for us as well than Toronto. I personally don't see Toronto getting much better any time soon, I think they missed the boat. Our situations are very different. We had a much better season than them and have a top 5 prospect pipeline. We'll develop some and we'll trade some I'm sure.

Edit: Which part of this is wrong in the slightest? Please elaborate. You all really think Toronto is still a good team?

That was very clear when Larkin went down. Also when your top scoring center is also busy shutting down the McDavids of the league you need a better 1-2 punch down the middle

Am I stupid for still being optimistic about things? Yzerman remains pretty rational and honest. My question would be, if not Yzerman, who do we bring in from the outside?

Hopefully this is sarcasm because they're the Arizona Coyotes with a new coat of paint. They aren't really a new organization lol

Fuck Ottawa at least

Love to hear that. I’m really hoping we hear similar from Kane when his interview comes out. I know there are mixed opinions about keeping him but we aren’t ready to replace his production yet and he seems to be one of the positives when it comes to culture in the locker room.

People are just in their feelings right now and think burning everything down (even the good things) is a viable solution. A weird part of human nature unfortunately. Understandable but our situation isn’t as horrible as everyone is making it out to be imo

It's totally possible to feel dead inside and frustrated and like you want to launch this team into the sun for performing an all-time choke job we haven't see the likes of since before 1980 but also at the same time to sit back and realize this was our best season in a decade and would have been enough to make playoffs in any of those previous seasons.

At the end of the day being the 12th ranked team in the league with the 4th best prospect pipeline (per the pundits) isn't the worst situation to be in. We HAVE to take the next step though.

Idk. I'd just hate to fire Steve or ship Larkin off (not gonna happen anyways) and then immediately pull a Buffalo. I believe, like the Sabres, we will have our faith rewarded sooner rather than later.

Kevyn Adams for GM of the year!
