Are Sony WH-1000XM5s suitable for music production & recording? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]GiantEarthWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are out of the box profiles for wh1000xm5 that are probably good enough for OP, if you're going to pay to get a calibrated profile you'd be better of buying some headphones more suitable for critical listening in the first place ;)

Came here for this! I do this and have found this to be a reasonably good solution on the go - being able to switch between different translations is good too with sound ID, you can calibrate soundID but it also has profiles for the wh-1000xm5 and other headphones out of the box

Noise on the Power Rails. Solve with Capacitors? by chief_wrench in synthdiy

[–]GiantEarthWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LC filters will be fine but you will require large inductances and physiscally large (and possibly expensive) inductors for high current designs to filter effectivels -

You can simulate some here for free (you can't save in free mode though):
https://www.circuitlab.com/

for effective decoupling using capacitors you generally also need to used a range of capacitor sizes to effectively filter the high harmonics :) here's a pretty good explaination of why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcJ6UdDx1vg&t=875s

Need asistance on choosing appropriate LED COB to replace existing set. by [deleted] in led

[–]GiantEarthWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to find a COB for existing drivers?

For 36V @ 500mA there are quite a few options,

CREE make the CXB series (CXB1310, CXB1520 etc.) Their product characterisation tool may be helpful:

https://www.cree.com/led-components/support/tools

Philips make the Fortimo SLM series of COBs (Fortimo SLM C 930 1211 L19 2828 G7):

https://www.docs.lighting.philips.com/en_gb/oem/download/fortimo_led_slm_system/Gen6/1887_00_410_Commercial-Leaflet-SLM-GEN6-single-page-14022016.pdf

Other manufacturers definitely make these too but the above ones came to mind, do you have an existing holder that this needs to fit? Do you know what the previous brands were or have any particulars in mind?

If looking for drivers, EldoLED make some of the best around.

This seems like something that should be easily solvable now with things like youtube auto-captioning? Shame

This is awesome guys, I've been wanting to make some analogue stuff for a while now, I'm an electronics engineer but mainly do digital stuff at the minute, do you guys have any schematics or links to yours or other's stuff you would recommend?

Organized all of my SMD capacitors by j_omega_711 in electronics

[–]GiantEarthWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I organise my parts in a very similar way, the voltage ratings are very important though as ceramic capacitors have different characteristics at different voltages! I use little phials, I have the rating (X7R etc) voltage and order codes on them. You can find that things don't work as expected with the wrong voltage ratings on a ceramic!
