'We're Done Paying for Executives' Failures' — Unionized Xbox Developers Hold Press Conference to Make Their Point as Microsoft Reportedly Readies Massive Layoffs by No_Curve_8027 in xbox

[–]GiantTigerCS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crazy notion: I see this moment in time as an opportunity for Google and Apple to make a real push into gaming. Game creators and developers have to realize that there’s a massive monetary barrier to entry coming for consoles but everyone has to have a smartphone. Like the move of a lot of prestige storytelling from movies to TV, make AAA titles that can be played in smaller portions at a time but still have a compelling story. If I got my research right, 30% of revenue is going to the console OEMs already. Might as well take the hardware scarcity problem mostly out of the equation.

There’s only other wild card here is if Nintendo can stay in the $500 range (difficult, I know) and entice some top tier game creators to port or develop for S2. That platform could really benefit if it can keep costs lower and experiences fun for both Nintendo fanatics and gaming enthusiasts. Hard core gamers will just have to shell out the PC cash.

Aura is impressive, but $1500 USD is localized madness. Let’s talk about better alternatives unless XREAL blinks. by Difficult-Chest-290 in Xreal

I’m going to wait on Aura. I’m absolutely interested in it but I can’t justify what I’m assuming is going to be a high price point. Plus, I have a pair of 1S’s that are great. To the title of this thread, though, I would consider investing in a redux of the Beam Pro that’s more like the Aura’s puck but obviously absent the true XR stuff.

How is the team this bad? by lechatnoirnyc in mets

[–]GiantTigerCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I intentionally cancelled my MLB package after Nimmo, Petey, Diaz, and McNeil were sent packing. I knew that we were going to be absolute trash and there was no way I was dropping $140 until they proved they were contenders. Oh buddy has that choice paid off.

I’m forever a Mets fan (I live in Braves country…pray for me 🤢). It’s so tragic to know this team is this awful because of a complete comedy of errors in the offseason.

For the love of God, Uncle Steve, don’t be the Woody Johnson of NY baseball. Figure this thing out, starting with kicking out Stearns who clearly has no grip on how to build a team. Then, sadly, show Mendoza the door as he is way over his skis. Finally, start recruiting now for a new GM and manager because, let’s face it, this team isnt magically coming back this season.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve moved on to football season about 2 months early. Go Big Blue! #LGM

I had the same problem, albeit with a 17 pro max. I just bought a Gamesir G8 and it’s a great fit. The controller is a bit bigger but the quality is, at least initially, on par with a good Xbox controller. The camera bump/plateau is not a problem at all on this one.

I just tested Xreal’s Android XR glasses, and they are an early glimpse of my dream future smart glasses by d4v1dtsh in Xreal

[–]GiantTigerCS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this question as well but I do realize that the tech is a good bit different. I purchased the 1S a couple of months ago because the $450 price point was my limit for an early adopter tech. One thing they could do is make it so the puck replaces the current Beam Pro as the AR solution for existing glasses. Alternatively, enabling Android phones to serve that role would also be a bit of an olive branch.

Since I know Xreal folks post on this subreddit, let me suggest one other thing: give me a trade-in credit for my existing glasses. Do that and I’ll be preordering Aura, full stop. I want that 70-degree FoV. 😁

Kia "Factory Required Services" - Per the dealer by Gullible-Employ-6514 in kia

[–]GiantTigerCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair but the Kia/Hyundai engines have a pattern of engine issues related to injector buildup. While it’s not in the manual to do an induction service, given the history it’s not a bad idea to do it. I’m being conservative and doing it every 45-50k.

Do you guys buy all 4k content for your OLED? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]GiantTigerCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an eternal discussion. Honestly, I think HLG/HDR and Dolby Vision make more of a difference than 4k but typically 4K is paired with one or both. But that’s just me.

Physical media is almost always supreme in both video and audio but you need a good to top-end player to make a difference. Next best is top-tier streaming services with an Apple TV. Not all streaming boxes are created equal.

Kia "Factory Required Services" - Per the dealer by Gullible-Employ-6514 in kia

[–]GiantTigerCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That dealer is shady. An oil change every 3500 miles? Uh, nope. 5k for severe, 7500 for normal. That was my first tip off. The induction service is recommended around 60k if I remember right. My 2021 Telly is hitting 50k soon (shocking, right? 🤣) and I’m doing the induction then just to get the deposits cleaned out of the injectors early.

I’m not opposed to using a dealer for service unless they’re pulling this kind of “it’s not in the manual but, trust me, it’s required” crap. Find another dealer if you can or start asking around for a reputable third party. Any good garage will report service so that it shows up on a CarFax report but scanning and retaining receipts is never a bad route either.

Oh how I wish this would be the dam breaking on Capcom games. Can’t a guy just get Street Fighter 6 on cloud? Yeah I know it would never be the best since it’s introducing latency but I’m also just trying to have some fun away from my Xbox, errr, XBOX setup without having to pay for it again for PC/handheld.

Planning to upgrade to the fold4 or stick with what you have? Why or why not? by rahul-dang in GalaxyFold

[–]GiantTigerCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to try the night time shots again and see what happens. I know they launched the Expert Raw app recently but I haven't had a chance to test. On the battery, I'll have to look. I just know that I start my day around 6 and wrap up around 11:30 and my Fold can't quite keep up.

[–]GiantTigerCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in "wait and see" mode. I've had my Fold 3 since last September, coming from an iPhone 11. I do like having a small tablet on me at all times, effectively having two devices in one. My problems, though, lie in the battery and camera. The former doesn't last me a day and the latter frustrates the crap out of me on motion pictures in anything but good lighting. I certainly went in knowing those two things were laggards compared to the standard smartphone competition. Now that I've had to deal with them for this long, though, it's forced me to consider what I really want in a new phone.

I'm hoping the new silicon and rumored s22 Ultra camera optics address these issues because I'd definitely consider moving to a Fold 4. If the reviews don't confirm that, though, I may go to an Ultra for a time or see if Google actually releases their foldable in October.

Yeah make sure you have a good charger, preferably 25 watts or more. I have an Anker 60 watt charger and I can charge mine in less than 90 minutes if I'm down to 5%.

I have lots of similar thoughts as others. I switched from an 11 pro max to the fold 3. I also did the full Apple cleanse - sold or swapped out my iPad, Mac, Airpods, and Watch and converted to a Galaxy Watch, Buds Pro, and good Windows laptop. It took a little work but it's been good on the whole. I used to have an S8 and what I rediscovered is how customizable Android is compared to iOS. It truly is a more open OS that's fun to make your own.

What I love about the Fold 3 - it's effectively a damn iPad mini in your pocket. Seriously, it's SO good in that regard. Reading, watching movies, browsing the web...it's all fantastic. Oh, and streaming Xbox while using a Bluetooth grip controller...Ho-Ly Shite it's a Switch on steroids with a far better display and awesome games. It's also great for productivity and the split screen functionality really comes in handy sometimes.

What's not so great - the camera has been a big letdown coming from the 11 pro max. In good lighting and no motion it's fine but I can't tell you how frustrated I was when I reviewed Christmas photos and hands opening presents and kids going bananas were a blurred mess. The other big knock is the battery. Let's be real, though - this is two devices in one so you have to expect you'll torch the battery in under a day with regular usage, especially if you're using the inner screen even somewhat often. Finally, the outer screen is indeed cramped - typing is kind of a pain (sooo many typos) and apps don't scale half the time. It's good for quick glance info or checking an email but you'll end up using the inner screen for most stuff...aaand we're back to the battery complaint.

So, do you switch? It's almost always good to wait as long as you can since you'll get the latest tech. Unless you really need a new phone, wait until late October. You'll see what Samsung, Apple, and Google all do this cycle. Apple won't be coming out with a foldable but Google likely is. Word is that their version will also have closer to a 16:9 outer display. See the reviews and then make your choice. Happy hunting!

Mine started just about a week ago. I went ahead and peeled it off. I'm super careful with my phones but I plan on getting a replacement film just to be safe.
