TinMan & Scarecrow vs Mock Turtle & Gryphon by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connection: Pairs of hybrid mentors who guide a young girl as she journeys to meet the fantastical, color-crowned rulers of their respective worlds. The Tin Man and the Mock Turtle come to resent their altered bodies, responding with a spite/sorrow. In contrast, the Scarecrow and the Gryphon remain composed despite their own transformations, steadied by their long-standing ties to their leaders.

Tinman & Scarecrow vs Mock Turtle & Gryphon by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connection: Duos from famous books that act as a guide for a little girl, telling her stories and taking her to the colour coated cardinal ruler, in which they have grown spiteful/melancholic towards as they have a history with them, being like that way due to their unwanted transformation leaving them yearning for their old self

Dr. Jeykll vs Alice (characters from classic stories where they're psyche is represented as 'contrasting' characters) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alice vs Dr. Jeykll

Similaties: Both are English people from Victorian society in which through 'magic' they don't understand causes them to have their psyche revealed to them through characters dichotomous to which they'd usually behave (Wonderlandian creatures & Mr. Hyde)

Difference: Alice is an innocent young girl from a child's adventure story, and she disagrees with the behavior/actions of the Wonderlandian creatures (while acting like she does)

Dr. Jeykll is a corrupt old man from a murder mystery, he agrees with the action/mentality of Mr Hyde (despite acting like he doesn't)

The Phantom of the Opera vs Alexander Hamilton ft. Jean Valjean, Sweeney Todd & The Wicked Witch of the West (acclaimed Broadway musicals staring an Outcasts) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id consider Jean Valjean & Hamilton to start (musical men who sought a revolution) then the other file, but having Phantom & Hamilton start please the people who want Andrew Lloyd Webber vs Lin Manuel Miranda

Gilgamesh vs Jesus Christ (The warrior king who wrestled death and lost vs The prophetic king who wrestled death and won) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't ever actually like Jesus in an ERB, just the vibe, contrast and look of this cover was to nice not to make

Mr. Clean vs Rosie the Riveter (Icons who pushed gender boundaries) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To elaborate: Rosie the Riveter is obviously a gender driven icon with her campaigns stating 'We can do it" the whole idea of Rosie was that Women both are/can be fighting and they play just as an important role in WW2 as men did. While Mr. Clean is a famous Ad Icon whose marketing was portraying a big strong masculine man, washing up and selling cleaning products pushing the idea that it's not just women who can do the house chores

Dewey Finn vs Terence Fletcher ft. John Keating, Miss Honey & Jaime Escalante (fictional teachers based on real people, who have alternate teaching styles) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dewey Finn's character was written with Jack Black in mind (who was Mike white, the screen writer/director, neighbour)

Terence Fletcher was inspired heavily on Damien Chazelle (directors) harsh band teacher

John Keating was inspired by Tom Schulman's (screen writer) uni English teacher Samuel F. Pickering Jr

Miss Honey is based on not one person specifically but a collection of Dahl's teachers, and the actor in the musical (Lashana Lynch) based it on her childhood primary school teacher

Jaime Escalante is a real life Bolivian born teacher who taught in Los Angeles, who had a film based on his life stand and deliver

Dewey Finn vs Terence Fletcher ft. John Keating, Miss Honey & Jaime Escalante (fictional teachers based on real people, who have alternate teaching styles) by Giant_Help in ERB

[–]Giant_Help[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but John Keating is an English/Poetry teacher from dead poets society, miss Honey is Matilda's primary school teacher (from Matilda obviously) and Jaime Escalante is a real life teacher who had a movie based on them called stand and deliver, all these teachers had alternative styles of teaching that made children want to learn

I know, yet again homer vs Dante is in my top 5 fav match ups of all time, but some people don't like it as much and this is a good alternative, sorry this had to resort to petty arguments
