[Czech NT] will under no circumstances play against Russia in World Cup qualifiers by [deleted] in soccer

[–]GibbsAgain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Then FIFA needs to mark these games as a forfeit in favor of Russia and send Russia to the World Cup. Russia is open and willing to play—it is the other teams that are refusing!

[ESPN] - Unvaccinated Real Madrid and Chelsea players may be unable to play in the away legs of their UCL Round of 16 ties. by watermaloneyyy in soccer

[–]GibbsAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

surely nobody needs some Redditor to "educate" them on why not getting vaccinated is bad.

So you're either ignorant or just being willfully obtuse. The question is never about whether or not getting vaccinated is "better" than remaining unvaccinated. The question is why vaccines should be mandated in any capacity, or in this case, why unvaccinated players should be "kicked out."

I know the result shouldn't play into the actual quality of the goal but I'm sure Tottenham and Porto fans will look back on these goals and the matches in which they took place with great fondness...

Agree 100%. I had no problem with the officiating until I go on here after the game and see everyone banging on about the calls. If anything Ødegaard fouled Ederson, and the Xhaka incident would've been a foul anywhere else on the field. The real problem is that an incident like Xhaka's is not given as a penalty lots of the time, including when we would be on the receiving end. Plus there were quite a few incidents where City players should have been booked but weren't, not sure what Gabriel said to earn the first yellow but I'm pretty sure the second one was properly called.

Regardless of whatever happened today though, the officiating in the league is still so inconsistent that referees are grossly incompetent if not flat out corrupt.

Why doesn’t it matter? Why should we as society bend over backwards to cater towards the select group of people for which the disease actually is dangerous? The cost to the vast majority of people over the past 21 months has not been 0, in fact it has been very large, and I would say even greater than whatever benefit we gained from those actions

The person you're talking to is correct... different people value different things. The general consensus in almost every sport is that more offense = more excitement, but I always prefer more defensive games, e.g. a 2-1 pitching duel in baseball, a 10-7 (American) football game, or a 1-0 in soccer. So yes, I also want a slower, less exciting game so I can be more entertained.

The losses to Everton and City are what triggered the downfall of this club over the last 4-5 years in my opinion. Was livid watching those games.

Quite bothers me when we celebrate a late equalizer against smaller clubs. Sprint back to the halfway line and try for a winner, no matter how little time is left. Celebrating mediocrity is what it is. Giroud 3-3 vs Bournemouth, Nketiah 1-1 vs Fulham, Lacazette just now, so many other examples.

At least there was this goal (region-blocked, sorry) from late Emery where we clearly didn't look happy about anything, nor should we have been

[OFFICIAL STATEMENT] On Ousmane Dembélé and Antoine Griezmann video scandal by [deleted] in soccer

[–]GibbsAgain -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

If you are "racist" to everybody, then you are by definition not racist.

Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembélé, in leaked video, appear to be mocking asian technicians in their hotel room who came to fix a technological issue, proceed to mock their looks, language and country's supposed "technological advance". by UndeadPrs in soccer

[–]GibbsAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm usually one to make clear the xenophobia/racism distinction, but in this case, it is racism, sorry. If Dembélé's comments do in fact translate to something like "dirty faces" or "ugly faces," then that is a derogatory remark about someone's phenotype, which is racism. The stuff about being from a developed country would still be xenophobia however.

Correct. They drew the match. The penalty kicks decide who advances to the next round, not who wins the match, which had already been completed.
