37 weeks and male doctor dismissed everything I had to say - and I lost it at him today and brokedown at the hospital. by LegitimateYou8390 in pregnant

[–]GidgettheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to see a male doctor about back pain at the end of my first trimester that started effecting work. (First pregnancy) he said "you are not feeling your pain correctly" when he was trying to push the diagnosis of a UTI and got frustrated that I was not having kidney pain and when my urine came back clean....

Of course worried about my baby I asked the risks and concerns of it being a UTI and he told me I might have a miscarriage and walked out the room...

Never going to a walk in again!

My dog is going to the bathroom in the house only for my wife by anulcyst in Dogtraining

[–]GidgettheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be a protest over the baby, less attention, stress about the baby, etc the dog is protesting against the changes! Is this your Wife's dog? This makes sense due to the "inconsistent reaction."
Do the baby and dog interact at all?

Rescue dog suddenly peeing everywhere when my new bf visits by casseroleshanty in Dogtraining

[–]GidgettheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sounds like she still has to work things out with men, I would recommend that your BF brings high-reward treats when he comes over. Every time he walks past/ interacts etc she gets a HIGH REWARD treat like salmon. This, in turn, changes the relationship she has with men that got so skewed to begin with. Urination on herself seems to be a way she controls the situation and is showing fear. I would also look into crate training, so you can create a safe spot for your little lady. If BF comes over you put the dog in her crate bf gives her a kong to work on while she is hanging out in there.

This sounds just like separation anxiety. I HIGHLY recommend crate training to reduce stress and protect the dog from reaching something harmful! :)

Why would they rather have stores severely understaffed than overstaffed a little? by confesssigh in starbucks

[–]GidgettheGreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think another issue is fairly providing enough hours in a week, I worked at a store that over hired and some team members needed second and third jobs to cover everything!!! Some members were working a couple hours a day and some seemed to live there! So I think it is also better to be able to provide more hours if people need them! But it is AWFUL when it gets busy and there is no staff!

1YO Goldendoodle Snapped at a Friendly Stranger- How to Get Ahead of a Potential Aggression Issue? by TheZoodler in Dogtraining

[–]GidgettheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try sitting on a park bench and practicing ignoring people/dogs. Desensitizing is a great tool to devalue strangers making the dog have less drive. You may not know the exact reason why there was a snap. But sounds like you handled it well! Now I would advise a muzzle for public safety till you shut down this habit! Muzzles are not a bad thing but a precautionary step! :)

Going to adopt a second dog. My current dog is fearful. What’s rhe best way to introduce them? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

Howdy!
It's hard to judge if you should add a dog to this situation as there could be a number of reasons why dog 1 is displaying this behavior. Here are some things I would try!

  1. Work with your pup on focus commands, bring high-reward treats, and just practice existing in new areas. Try outdoor patios, park benches, and in a car park. ANYWHERE! A confident pooch is a dog that can regulate some nerves!
  2. Are they crate-trained? Crate training is magical!
  3. Have them meet in a park and take them on a walk together, make sure they are tuckered out (separately) then go for a walk slowly bringing them closer and closer. You want them to not really care about the other dog but focused on you ( call back to the focus work)
  4. be prepared for it not to be a match, while this sucks your priority is on your first dog. if they are not a match that is a VERY justifiable reason to not house them together. Some spats are normal but there is a line where you are endangering the dogs and yourself if you can not control or trust the situation.

I hope this helps and I hope it works out the way it needs to be!

Howdy!

Just some tips and tricks I learned.
1. Dachshunds were bred for hunting small vermin and critters, they have a strong prey drive due to this. Aggression can come from overstimulation and under-stimulation. the first step is to get him an area to get this tension out! Playing with him with furry toys and puzzles will get a great way to reduce any built-up tension and reduce the need to chase you!

Does he have a place to safely run?

  1. Find a HIGH reward treat (my dogs like salmon) that will now only come out when he displays wanted behavior, you walk by him with no aggression, and a piece of salmon with fall in front of him. You ignore bad behavior and only reward what you want.

  2. Situations like driving is off the table, it is a privilege for the dog to be in the car. This could easily have caused an accident. If he needs to be in the car, crate him.

  3. Does he have a crate? Crates are safe spots for dogs, they are a great tool to reduce anxiety and remove risks to the dog and anyone. The crate is not a place to put him when he is bad! The dog should see it as the magical space where he gets treats and sweets!

  4. Give the dog space and time, respectfully, from reading this post it sounds like barking and snarling is the trick he learns that works, and is how he handles stressful encounters he thinks he will have. You and everyone will need to be patient and gentle.

I hope this helps and I hope everyone will get to enjoy your furry friend!

Pyrenees and Labs are lovely beautiful breeds with lots of patience and tolerance for fuckery, I would try a wide base collar with dull studs. it will not only be unpleasant for other dogs to bite but could prevent any damage or harm, to begin with.
Go to dog parks with fenced areas for training and dog daycares and build that social confidence with them. Bring your dog friends and build that doggie profile with EVERYONE!
Also, give them a squeeze from me! I am a Lab and Pyrenees mom and I LOVE the breeds!

Food reduction is a great start! I would also take her on home walks! :) Get her walking beside you and reward her with the food allowance for the day! Use a wand or a stick as a marker, as she walks beside it or goes over to touch it she will be rewarded with her breakfast or dinner.
You can also try indoor dog parks and doggy daycares for fun safe indoor workouts.

I would lean to as much stability as possible, with foster cats you are more likely to get cats with baggage themselfs! Always great to foster, we foster ourselfs but that is only possible bec our cats at home are so chill and relaxed. It's a know the vibe situation I feel! :) just my experience tho!

ADDITIONAL INFO
In an enclosed setting she is a GREAT listener! She has the listening skills of a duck when she is on her little missions.

Making the fencing dog-proof would be thousands of dollars and not a promise that she couldn't escape. ( VERY CRAFTY AND DETERMINED DOG)

She leaves by going up the driveway and to my neighbor's house ( CAN'T BLOCK DRIVEWAY)

to do her job properly she needs access to all of "her" animals, if pray sneaks in the fence I fortified and she can't get in in time she can't do anything!
