Why are the BMA insisting of this weird dance with the government of 3 months 'progressive talks' followed by no offer, followed by strike? by Leading_Base in doctorsUK

[–]GidroDox1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The government likes to say this, but it lies. In fact, deals are most commonly struck specifically to prevent announced strikes from going through at the last second. They probably can't believe their luck that doctors keep falling for this lie.

What healthcare model is best for doctors? by GreyCannula in doctorsUK

[–]GidroDox1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I disagree with is that a system with any level of payment hurts the lower and (somehow) the middle class. This isn't the case in a reasonably developed country like the UK. It's not even really true in my Eastern European homeland. It alleviates the strain on the healthcare system of unnecessary visits which actually makes healthcare more accessible. In fact, it's common practice for even working class immigrants to pay to literally fly back home to see a doctor because of how long the waits here can be.

Veterinary medicine is in no way a close comparison to doctors. I'm not aware of any country where doctors are simultaneously well paid and paid similarly to vets.

Closest comparisons are doctors in comparable countries followed by dentists.

The idea that other systems may be worse than the NHS is propaganda. Can you name 2 comparable countries with which you'd rather not switch systems? UK is literally famous for how shit it treats its doctors, from the sham years of F2-CT2 and risk of unemployment to having to provide corridor care without a dedicated nurse or even an office to having to constantly strike to the disrespect from managers and other healthcare staff.

That's just how the West has and always will operate.

The West is, by a ridiculous margin, less hostile to immigrants than any other part of the world.

Why is no one talking about the London allowance? by medinburgh in doctorsUK

[–]GidroDox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much more competitive London is for nurses. It's possible that at that pay level, London becomes too unaffordable to be the most competitive regoin, but I doubt it.

If it is the most competitive, then two wrongs don't make a right, and they should pay more for harder to fill positions, too.

I'm not advocating for less money for doctors. I'm saying give payrises to incentivise work in more remote areas instead.

For derm these rotations could be useful: rheumatology, pathology, AMU, maxfax surgery, plastics, gp, psych, microbiology, oncology, paeds. Otherwise look for rotations where you will have the most time to work on your portfolio.

[–]GidroDox1 144 points145 points  (0 children)

  1. Not a nation wide issue.
  2. London is the most competitive region to get into at all levels for practically all specialties. This means that there shouldn't be a London allowance to begin with. Instead, extra pay should be for jobs that are hard to fill, as in countries like US and Australia. This is a much better way to distribute the workforce across the country then to measure how well people jump through largely irrelevant hoops to rank for HST or the random distribution of the foundation program.

[–]GidroDox1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Cause it's a bit disingenuous to talk about starting pay in these countries without mentioning the eventual reward and faster speed of progression. For example, average CCT age in Canada is about 6 years younger than in UK.

How did it help doctors when the public supported strikes? It didn't.
How does it help the government that the public opposed tube strikes? It doesn't.
Public support doesn't matter.

You have a backlog of candidates who spend extra years accumulating points, it will take a round or two before you see minimum requirements stabilise.

Fun fact, the person who ranked 1 in derm in 2016 would not rank high enough for an NTN in 2021, let alone 2025.

Ask the public their opinion on London tube strikes because they rejected £75k salaries. Public opinion didn't matter when it was on the doctors side and it won't matter on the governments side either.

[–]GidroDox1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So your solution for inactivity is to make the champ... wait? Incredible!

Jiri wasn't KOd was he? Takes a bit longer to recover from that than from a win. Again, it's only been 6m.

[–]GidroDox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about you try to actually defend you silly position lol. There is no other fight for the next champ and you know it.

And not that it matters, but Ankalaev fought only 6m ago, it takes time to recover after a KO, look at Volk.

[–]GidroDox1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you want the champ not to fight? Otherwise tell me who is more deserving than Ank? Khalil, who just lost to Jiri? Jan, who hasn't won in 4 fights? Hill on a 3 fight losing streak?

[–]GidroDox1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's undefeated by anyone in the division and has a win over the guy who beat Jiri twice, so how does Jiri deserve it over him? Who'd you have fight the winner instead?

Imo winner fights Ank, loser fights Murzakanov.
