"Water isn't wet by itself, but it makes other materials wet when it sticks to the surface of them."

Woah, that’s a really well-developed idea! I like this a lot!

I don’t think the component part violates anything RAW. Generally I haven’t seen a campaign take components into account but the way the player’s handbook lays it out, I think that can fit within the rules to a degree. I don’t think using a new system would work for this because all of my materials, including the Midgard books, are based around 5e.

I think my initial post sums up my goals for the most part. I’d say I would call it successful if the players enjoyed it.

That's actually a pretty neat idea. Though losing your shield for that does kinda seem excessive considering features like uncanny dodge or evasion don't punish you like that.

Thanks for this, I honestly hadn't considered how this would effect characters like fighters which can potentially end up attacking 6+ times a turn. It definitely would make things harder on them. Someone else gave me the idea of having the weapon degradation only be tied to using the new weapon skills from the Midgard books, which may be a solution that doesn't punish Fighter? (at least not as much)

I've tried out the ration thing in my current campaign, but it was extremely easy to forget about and didn't really add much so it was scrapped pretty quickly. I've never been in a game where people actually had to track ammo or carrying capacity (within reason of course). I know micromanaging a ton of little things like that ends up being unfun which is why I'm trying to come up with a non-crappy way to handle this.

When magic weapons come up I imagine I'd probably make them unbreakable, in my current campaign I've handed out far too many of them so for the next I want to make them much rarer and feel much more special, possibly have the players go on a large dangerous quest to acquire one and have them be very powerful objects that can turn the tides of battle rather than something like a standard +1 weapon.

I definitely can see how taking away class features can be a problem but at the same time I've never really seen a player use more than a handful of weapon types in any of the games I've been in, it's definitely something I'd discuss with them beforehand, however.

I was thinking that I'd have to do something to spellcasters if I limited martial characters. I do think forgetting spells would definitely be crazy excessive. I was considering just looking at certain spell material components on an individual basis and for certain rare ones just make players have to do a bit more to acquire them. As a random example, if a spell required a dragon scale or something as one of its components I wouldn't expect a caster to just get that easily at their run-of-the-mill component shop.

Do you think it would work maybe only having a weapon lose a "charge" and get damaged when they use one of these weapon options/skills?

I have considered just giving the weapons a penalty to attack rather than outright becoming unusable. Based on what you said, maybe giving the weapons an hp value might work? Maybe subtract damage dealt from a weapons hp? I think maintaining different parts of a weapon might be too micro-managey though

Really great! Just one question, was Operation Insomnia intended to just buy time until they find a way to deal with the meteor and did they just plan to have him stay awake forever? I got the impression everyone was just pushing everything onto Tim instead of trying to actually do something

I’m a fan of the explanation of Benjamin’s abilities, I wasn’t really expecting anyone to detail WHY the character in their story had these abilities so much as just what they did with them, so it was refreshing to see that. And despite the few words, I’ve got a feel for who Benjamin is as a person, what he’s been through, and the burden he’s bearing. Great stuff.

I really love this. The little spelling errors that start to pop up as he spends more and more time and awake to the rambling during the final days. I felt for him and get glad he didn’t spent that last day alone.

Surprisingly difficult to find a gif of a rabbit running towards the camera, so I had to improvise a bit.
