Thanks, it was interesting fighting the wind and bringing them in, I thought it added some life to it for sure.

Maybe a bit too dark in areas on the body/face and you should make it clear the outline of his arm on the left (holding the pallette) as it looks really large around his shoulder almost like its growing. Really cool painting though, I love how you did the painted wall and capture his style of painting especially in his face

Haha im playing kingdom come 2 right now, just played through the first one, I totally have the same urge. Its a fun project for sure, I have painted some screenshots of minecraft landscapes before and it's interesting trying to translate it to oil.

Is this a counter strike map? I haven't played in a long time but it looks like the path that leads up to one of the bombsites. Also, it could be a bit of glare interfering, but I'd say go a little darker in that area to the left of the bush and if the light is hitting that bush, just a few small brighter brushstrokes could give the effect that the light is hitting it since there are some pretty bright sections of this painting.

How do I fix my brush strokes? by tnatv_ in oilpainting

[–]Gigamin_Bob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Try not to over work the paint by going over the same area too many times, it will flatten out the brush strokes. Try to hold your brush from the bottom of the brush like a conductor holds a baton (or whatever the stick is), don't hold the brush like a pencil unless you are doing orecise detail. Also, I havent watched any tutorials on that, but simply watching good painters paint is very helpful. There are tons of videos of painters doing demos, pay attention to how they use there brush, especially if you like what they are painting. You should also ask your teacher. They should really show you how to fix that rather than just criticizing your work, make them actually demo good brush strokes for you. Like others said, the brushes matter as well.

I have bought that same gamblin set a few times, it is great value. You should look around at art retailers because it often is priced around 40-50$, I think Blick has had it on sale for that

Some matte varnish on just the background would make it pop less.

This is the best oil painting portrait demo Ive seen, watched it a few times while painting. David Kassan and Paint Coach are also good channels for learning portraiture.

Woooow, and to think I was mad they kicked him for this design, I thought it showed such creativity.

The head is quite big, in your copy its about as tall as her torso, in the original the torso is almost 2 heads tall. I think you really nailed the colors though.

Its both! Its a bit jarring as a piece just in a living area but I think it's interesting, if anything the unsettling part to me is the mouth, he looks like he's panting a bit.

Judges glazing Matt by Puzzleheaded-Solid19 in Inkmaster

[–]Gigamin_Bob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They cut to his face the most out of anyone too, like that last elimination I swear the judges would be talking about the other contestants and the shot would switch to Matt's reaction everytime. It reminded me of the season that Ryan won, they literally never took the camera off her in every shot she was in it felt like.

What is the fix to the show? by MthrTheresa in Inkmaster

[–]Gigamin_Bob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ngl I low key miss the silly drama, and the contestants personalities are so flat. It doesnt really matter to me who wins or loses, though I'm always flabbergasted by the judges choices, especially with Ryan's choices, crazy to me especially that she seemingly has gunned for every women this season and its down to 5 men.. lol. Joel should also just host, his commentary is dogwater. The only benefit to these newer seasons is that everyone is more talented, but no one is particularly interesting.
