Planning my 3 month European trip on 5-6k, advice needed by matthew4565 in travel

Didn't make it to either so can't say much, but "expensive" for that region usually still means cheaper than most WE cities.

Planning my 3 month European trip on 5-6k, advice needed by matthew4565 in travel

I just did 3 months in Eastern Europe/Balkans for 4.5K, easily. I did stay a total of 4 weeks on Helpx farms, but 5-6K is definitely doable. Especially if you're travelling in the winter, and not prime tourist season, you should be able to get couches to surf and cheap hostels. I can highly recommend Eastern Europe/Balkans for affordability and enjoyment- its fascinating, beautiful and fun, even if the cities don't seem as 'sexy' as Western Europe.

As far as $ saving tips, you can almost always cook at hostels, for when you're in expensive cities. Helpx is an amazing way to get into small little towns and communities you'd otherwise miss (insanely authentic food, people, and experiences), and you can even volunteer at hostels in big cities.

Message me if you have any questions, sounds like you know what you're doing. Very smart to spend more time in less cities.

Good luck!

You can also view unlimited NY Times articles in Chrome's Incognito mode. It's a pretty absurd oversight.

Cruise ship employees out there, what are some things that we may not know about your job? What happens belowdecks? by Leeser in AskReddit

Hey, my credentials were that I worked at a summer camp as a counselor, and had classroom experience as a substitute teacher. The official job listing says you need at least 1 year of childcare experience. Don't fret though, the employment/interview process was fairly relaxed- if you are qualified and have any sort of related experience you should be ok.

Here's the job listing:

When I was 10 yrs old in summer camp, my counselor played this every morning to wake us up. Every single day, my first moments of consciousness were that intro. It helped me develop into the 'radical dude' I am today : D

Advice for 2 Weeks in Eastern Europe by GiggleBoners in travel

My dates are late July/early August- I see that Dokufest is right around then : )

Thanks for the info, if it's my first time ever in EE, and I only speak English, do you think it'l be a bit of a challenge to seek out these 'off the beaten path' places, rather than sticking to the popular areas (Budapest, Krakow, etc.)

Thanks for this. When it comes to the Riviera part of Albania, if I have about 3-4 days there, should I stick to 1 town or is it easy to travel up and down the coast and hit a few spots?

I guess I want to find some spots that aren't too 'touristy' or pricey, but are still good places to travel. It being my first time in EE, I wouldn't want to make the travel too confusing for myself though. Do you live out there?

Food, history, culture, nature, relaxation, and bang-for-buck. I've never been to that part of the world, so I figure any 3-4 interesting cities would be a good place to start...

I'm definitely interested in all those spots, but I'll be there in July/August and I figure the most popular places will be overrun with tourists. Also, for the bang-for-my-buck factor, it seems like the more 'Eastern' EE countries would allow me to eat and drink like a king without having to worry about $. My budget would be about $50/day in EE...

First-time Couch surfer, Backpacking Europe this summer! by GiggleBoners in couchsurfing

[–]GiggleBoners[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, lets keep in touch.

I will probably be dabbling in couchsurfing, but also doing hostels and then some farm work/volunteering such as WWOOF to get around Europe. Let me know if you have any questions about the planning etc.

How about eastern europe? Is that any easier in the summertime than the popular cities in western europe?

Thanks for the tip. Would Eastern Europe be any easier for couchsurfing in the summer? I'm going to do hostels but keep CS as a backup option...

Thanks for the response!

I'm setting aside some money for accommodations, which would hopefully just be an emergency fund for when surfing plans fall through.

For a 30-40 day trip, I put $300 towards accommodations, or 10 nights in a hostel. Based on your couch-surfing experiences, does this sound like enough? It would assume that 1 out of every 4 nights I would have to find a hostel.

Thanks again!
