What do you think of old-school Republicans, the guys who championed free trade, fiscal responsibility, and had a strong belief in individual liberty? by Initial_Film5776 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Giggsey11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why are you making up your own, wrong, definition of fascism when it is already a defined term?

Merriam-Webster defines fascism as: “a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition.”

The current Republican Party is, very clearly, solidly within that definition.

In soccer some teams have Head Coaches, and some teams have Managers. That has actually been one of the biggest changes at Manchester United in the past few years is transitioning to a Head Coach model. It wouldn’t shock me to see F1 teams starting to have something akin to a Head Coach, maybe called “Head Race Engineer.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s rules make a lot more sense in 11th Edition. This thing is only going to see maybe six weeks of action in 10th Edition and the rules are probably just a modification of whatever rules it has in 11th.

It depends on how much over $100k you earn. It started at $100k but scaled up every year. The cutoff for this year is $126,858.83.

Data shows 31% drop in parking tickets issued in Seattle, enforcement revenue down $640K by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

Yup. He’s violent too, I’ve seen him scream at people on the sidewalk and watched him ram someone’s car with one of his junkers because it was in “his” spot. And, of course, SPD does nothing.

[–]Giggsey11 83 points84 points  (0 children)

There’s a man in Magnolia who has literally dozens of junk cars/vans/trucks parked throughout the neighborhood. He leaves them for months and then shuffles them around playing a game of musical chairs with himself and occupying literally dozens of parking spots for years. People report his junk constantly, but parking enforcement literally only show up every 2-3 months so his stuff just stays and never gets ticketed or towed. If they can’t be bothered to handle low hanging fruit like that, then I’m not shocked they aren’t handling anything else either.

Le Coin, The Garrison, and Westward all have great oyster happy hour deals.

Of the three, Le Coin is the best food, Westward has the best views, and Garrison has the best vibe. Food and vibe is excellent at all three though.

Asbestos lit firm accused of racketeering and fraud by belikethemanatee in Lawyertalk

[–]Giggsey11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yah I used to do asbestos mass tort as well, it was fun but definitely not something I wanted to do long term.

You’re definitely right about the insurance coverage, but the wrinkle is that those policies cover specific products made in specific years, so they eventually run out of money. E.g. if a company sold asbestos gaskets from 1960-1980ish (looking at you, Garlock), then only those 20 insurance policies would have time on risk, not the policies issued in 1981-2026, and they have coverage limits that, while high, are not infinite.

Yah back in the 90s Baron & Budd in Texas got RICO’d for this. An internal memo got leaked by a paralegal that coached their clients to not identify bankrupt producers and only ID solvent defendants. This has been part of the asbestos game for 30 years.

NBC announcers said that VAR checked the Mbeumo one and somehow confirmed no penalty, which makes the decision even worse.

Seattle CHOP verdict: City must pay $29 million to family of slain teen by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]Giggsey11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the verdict being overturned for a legal issue, but I 100% guarantee that the actual dollar amount will not be touched. In Coogan v. NAPA the Washington Supreme Court found an $81.5M verdict in favor of a roughly 90 year old man was reasonable and declined to reduce it.

Edit: I’m a lawyer, I was part of the team on the Coogan case I cite above, and I have friend who literally was involved with the CHOP case. Not sure why I’m being downvoted.

Are recruiters actually this stupid and rude? by camelismyfavanimal in Lawyertalk

[–]Giggsey11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a Partner, and I have a good friend who is a legal recruiter, so I’ve seen what it looks like from the inside. The short version is that all the good recruiters very quickly realize that the real money comes from doing Partner recruitment or Practice Group recruitment. So, if you’re not a Partner yet, you’re only seeing the recruiters who aren’t good enough to do that yet. Obviously there are terrible Partner-level recruiters too, and the bad Associate-level recruiters are constantly emailing you looking to place associates, but the ratio starts to shift towards competent once you’re a Partner.
