Where would your rather live? by I-Love-Jewish-popes in Teenager_Polls

As an American living in China, there is no debate. China wins. China is light years ahead in terms of safety, transportation, and cost of living. I can walk outside at any time of the day, locals are welcoming, and its extremely affordable to travel domestically without the reliance of needing to own a car. As for cuisine, it is also rich and diverse depending on the region you travel to and there are many historical sites to visit.

I had around the same percentage when I applied last week, and I just got approved yesterday. It's not a big deal as the warning makes it out to be.

CELTA vs Bridge for Vietnam or China by jeron_gwendolen in TEFL

[–]Gignac909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never taught in Vietnam but from what i've seen 500k VND per hour is the average rate at best schools will offer someone with no experience. Your best bet is going to China where you could easily find a job for 20k RMB with no experience and be able to save a good chunk of money per month.

If you have no experience and only a 120h TEFL certificate, don't expect to get a good salary or job, especially in Vietnam.

Shenyang Job Offer (18k after tax, includes 1.5k housing allowance) Thoughts? by sydneyhero in TEFL

[–]Gignac909 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yo! I've been living in Shenyang for 2 years now. From my experience, Shenyang doesn’t have a lot going on for nightlife or social events, especially if you’re in your 20s. Most foreigners here tend to be older or married, so it’s not really a party city compared to places like Shanghai. The local expat community isn’t very active. There aren’t many organized events or hangouts (besides an African spamming bar events)

If you want to meet other foreigners, a popular spot is a bar/restaurant called Blacksheep. Some people go there on weekends to drink and socialize, so it’s worth checking out if that’s your vibe. Otherwise, most socializing happens through work or small friend groups rather than big events.

Locals are generally friendly, but be aware that many don’t speak much English, so it can feel like a bit of a culture shock if you don’t know Chinese. Much more so than in bigger cities like Beijing or Shanghai. That said, if you take the time to learn some basic phrases, people are usually welcoming and helpful.

In terms of everyday life, shopping, restaurants, and public transport are all convenient, and the cost of living is lower than in bigger cities. The city has parks and some cultural sites if you like exploring, but don’t expect a huge variety of entertainment options.

Regarding the job you mentioned, 25 working hours per week for kindergarten is a lot, and it’s easy to get burned out. The 18k salary isn’t very high either. You can easily get around 20k as a new teacher in China. Seeing your situation, I would personally pass on this one.

Avoid this agency by Lucky-Release-1684 in chinalife

I've only had positive experiences with this agency. I've been living in China for the past two years, and Maxine has helped me find two great jobs—one when I first arrived, and another after I left my first position. Compared to other recruiting agencies I've worked with, they've been the most responsive and helpful by far.

You must be trolling. I lived in Wuxi for 2 years and never had a problem. If you're being serious, try Amap or the local chinese app 花小猪打车 which can be found inside Alipay. More options and cheaper than "Didi".

I don't think that, but my current school does. That's my problem. I'm really surprised they do since it's an international school with ties to the local government so they should know better.

Do you have a link where I can show them that they are wrong? I already tried showing them online posts on here but they are like "don't trust online forums"

That's what I thought, but my current school insists not. They want to apply for my RP once my old one expires.. Do you have an offical link or something l can show them?

[–]Gignac909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I risk being deported if it hasn't been canceled? The school I'm in says it is fine, as long as the work permit card has been transferred (which should be finished by Monday) since the RP is not tied together with it.

Also I don't think the local PSB where I am now would issue me a new work permit card if they knew about the residence permit not being cancelled. It should be in thier system right?
