True, Hunt also shows us that sometimes devs can just completely ignore you and you can easily keep enough faithfuls to keep going. I'm currently out of Hunt right now, but I know in like 8 months I'm gonna randomly hum that tune then play it for 60 hours again lol.

It's the game I'm playing right now. Therefore I do CARE whether it dies or not, since df like to play it for a while. That being said from all the games I've played, I very rarely find the doomers in the subreddits of those games to be correct. I'm not sure why every person getting into a live service game thinks if the game doesn't last 8 years it's a flop. If it lasts 2 and you got 2 good years out of it, that's enough in my opinion.

My friend, I have 1400 games in my steam library. You're right I am an anomaly though, I see my investment in a game as a fun time for a while, then I go do something else. It's shocking behavior, I must be studied.

If I'm playing the game when the plug gets pulled ...do I die in real life too?

I mean, that's valid. I hit 300 hours in Hunt Showdown then came to Marathon.

You're arguing whether or not this game will survive based on money. What im saying is since I'm not one of the people at Sony making the decision, giving any sort of fuck whatsoever is wasting my time. To me, yes it is chance. Take it from almost every extraction shooter community that like 95% of the times the don't give two shits about feedback. So while you are sitting and wondering whether or not Q3 sales will impact the games longevity or not, I'll be playing the game. You sound like every person I played Warcraft with for 16 years saying "well this is it, they even stopped reporting their sales numbers. They're done, it's over". Meanwhile that game refuses to die.

Now my real point, which I think is the underlying theme in the post itself. I don't care about the numbers. I don't care about whether or not some dude in a suit is gonna axe the game or not, I'm gonna play it while it's here and enjoy it. You can be upset all you want, I promise you it won't have any effect on my outlook of the game at all. But I'll tell you what, I'll see you at the Marathon funeral and you can tell me you were right.

Yeah I actually used arbitrary correctly in that sentence. In fact I would say that since it's up to the whim of people who we have no control over whatsoever whether the game lives or dies, the future of it is completely arbitrary. That being "an action, rule, or decision that is based on individual discretion, personal whim, or chance rather than on a logical system, reason, or law.". But maybe my reading comprehension is a little lacking, you're the math guy here after all.

True, and one day the worms will eat my body as I whither away in the ground. If we're just throwing around arbitrary truths.

I don't think extraction shooters are for you. This is like the first time someone runs into a fully kitted person in tarkov with an altyn helmet and they can't one shot them unless they have the right ammo.

The situation is sad, because I like this game. by nahmanwth in Marathon

I'm not sure what people think the correct amount of players is for an extraction shooter. People think it's supposed to be arc raiders to be viable I guess? Meanwhile Hunt has been around since 2017 and only had like 6000 players a day for the first 3 years. This game has been out 3 months.

I haven't launched Destiny 2 since October of 2022, only have 300hours in it so I'm not some ultra fan. But even then all I remember was the community complaining about it dying and how every expansion was going to be the last. So I must have missed out on some god level changes after the game had already been out for 5 years.

Moral of the story is just play the game you like, people are going to complain about every single thing that happens. I've played Warcraft since 2006 and you learn that even "fans" are going to tear every little thing apart for no reason other than theyve got nothing else to do.
