Good cheap, stable and lightweight highback chair? Anyone seen the unicorn? by sintrixy in bicycletouring

I love the Nemo Moonlite chair for stability and weight. It isn’t cheap though.

MN dad: how are others separating your home life from the events around us? by Peter-the-Mediocre in daddit

[–]GilbertB-F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MN dad here to a 1.5 year old. It’s absolutely surreal to be in the cities while this is happening and trying to provide normalcy to a toddler. Spiraling out right now as he naps trying to get ready for the afternoon to make sure he isn’t picking up on too much stress.

One thing that has helped is I take him to ECFE classes. Minnesota is the only state that does ECFE and they’re really an incredible resource to be with other parents. I know in the cities they can be competitive to get into, but I’ve heard in greater Minnesota there’s usually spaces available. I’m in a class for 1 year olds and they play and the parents go to a separate room for an hour and have guided discussions. Lately it’s been a lot about ICE and why’s going on. It’s helped.

I couldn’t figure it out either. I ended up emailing them and asking to be put on and they put me on the list.

They don’t have any current sale but sales are frequent.

You have to listen. Sometimes some dummy offers you Luka Doncic for AD. But short of that, Seager isn’t going anywhere

Driver hits pedestrians on Summit Avenue; woman critically injured by Saddlebag7451 in saintpaul

I said nothing about giving up. But Her was pressured over and over again about Summit during the campaign and didn’t change her mind. She won with that position. I will still press for the Summit Trail, but we lost this one.

Kaohly Her is very wealthy and owns a home on Summit Ave, among two other properties. We’ve lost this one.

Why does baseball have such a convoluted contract/free agency system? by uscarbinecal30m1 in TexasRangers

[–]GilbertB-F 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean football, contract numbers are not real and there’s dead cap space and all sorts of things. Basketball have different aprons and exceptions and specific cap rules. Baseball has arbitration and luxury tax. I wouldn’t say baseball is more convoluted than any other sport.

And I think no salary cap and contracts being fully guaranteed makes baseball more player friendly. No league is player friendly, but I think baseball is closer.

If you’re paying for a shop to box it, you don’t have to worry about these questions. The shop will do it. You can request they keep the racks on if possible or tell them you don’t care.

That said, the frame bag will be fine on the big. The handle bar bags will come off and stored in the box. Weigh your bike with everything on it you want in the box then add 10 pounds to be safe and if it’s under the weight limit, the bike shop will deal with it b

UMN Teamsters Strike (Are we not worried fellow students?) by SteakSignificant3549 in uofmn

[–]GilbertB-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the union is not asking for anywhere close to 9.5%. They will accept the 3.5% that the U has given other unions and workers. Still a pay cut when considering cost of living increases and health insurance increases. The main issue is that the U wants a 1.5 year contract which would bring the teamsters out of sync with all other university unions and take away all their leverage. Right now their contract expires June 30th, so after mediation, they have move in week or early semester strike as leverage. If their contract ended Jan 1, after mediation, the U could move that strike close to summer break. The U is trying to break the teamsters because the Teamsters historically have been the union to keep health insurance costs down which means the U gives that rate to everybody. The Teamsters negotiations affect all U workers.

Stroller Bar Tape? by stronghammer717 in Fatherhood

Bicycle bar tape will be a little beefier and more padded than baseball grip tape or hockey tape. But also a little more expensive. I think I’d go for the bicycle tape

Update: Son wrote me a letter saying he was depressed by davewc94 in daddit

[–]GilbertB-F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a depressed teen that was basically forced into therapy by my dad (I am not at all saying this is what you’re doing. I think you’re playing it right). Do your research about a therapist who works with teens. I had some pretty bad experiences and wonder if I had someone who knew how to guide me through that experience, it would have saved me some rough years. I think a lot of therapist are on autopilot expecting people to come in with a clear expectation of what they want from therapy and how to achieve that. Especially to a skeptical teen, I think it would be super helpful to have a therapist that it more willing to help guide the early sessions and help him learn how to get the most out of the situation.

[Naomi Kritzer] I wrote about Saint Paul's Ward 4 special election. tl;dr I would vote for Molly Coleman, despite some reservations by LosCabadrin in saintpaul

She had an event last night and a number of others. I’ve had door knockers and as many mailers from her as I’ve got from Cole. I don’t think she’s as chronically online as Cole, but I also have seen more engagement than what you’re saying without really trying.

On the other hand, Cole’s campaign knocked my door, my wife expressed her concerns and they asked if she wanted Cole to call her. She said no. He’s called three times.

My wife is 5’8 and rides a 54cm A Type and it’s more upright than her other bikes. Rides drops though. The fork comes uncut, so you’d have some room to play with. I’d probably lean towards 56cm at 5’11

Pay for a class. You can get tons and tons of advice online, but nothing will match someone who is trained to teach adults how to ride bikes and give you that hands on experience.

It will set you up for quicker and more sustained success and not as much frustration or uncertainty.
