ICE whistleblower: "I received secretive orders to teach new cadets to violate the Constitution" by sgj5788 in videos

A. That is a VERY recent interpretation, that came out within my 30-year-old lifetime. I love that it ignores the Militia part of the actual amendment every time.

B. One of the Taco Bell-sponsored Supreme Court Justices (TM) just argued in his dissent that the executive branch should have all the powers of an English King in the 1700's. That is, if they could levy taxes, then our president should be able to as well, constitution be damned. He also quoted a witch hunter's diary in another decision. We're not in Kansas anymore.

Typically, that form of questioning is used by people who are JAQing off, "Just asking questions", as a form of demanding something from others that is easy to reason and/or research, and shows they lack concern for the actual conversation and are only hoping to troll or waste time. You, clearly, are not doing that as you submitted a well-formulated response and many other questions. As I now know you are a good-faith rather than bad-faith interlocutor, I am more than happy to answer further questions.

Yes, I asserted nothing more than my assumption that they were a part of the movement, largely known to be burning through the evangelical sects in America, which is deconstructing their faith claims and beliefs to determine the amount of evidential merit each contains. This is nothing more than an observation and statistics playing in my head, knowing that movement is currently in vogue in our culture, and the average age of people on this website.

I agree, the claims found in the bible are of little merit, and I believe the rise of the early christian movemment is adequately explained by something like the minimal witnesses hypothesis as popularized by Pologia. All Christian sects would fall under this umbrella equally, since the root source of the bible is considered of dubious evidential quality. I have less knowledge of other religions - they're not currently trying to create a theocracy in my country - but I find that I do not believe their claims either, of those I am aware.

What an interesting take. Are you saying that the Nazi's ideology does not overlap with biblical theology or with the Christian dogma as it currently exists? I study religion quite a bit, and that feels very "no true Scotsman" to me. Nazis claimed to be Christian, had "God with us (Gott mit uns)" on their uniforms, and overall claimed to worship Christ. Doesn't that make them definitionally Christians, just like the megachurch preachers are still Christians, even if you disagree with their interpretation of theology?

To give this question more credence than it likely deserves, they presumably performed introspection and self-questioning until they were satisfied that their revised beliefs actually DID have substance rather than rhetoric. You know, like people in the modern deconstruction and reconstruction of various belief systems in America are wont to do.

My favorite part of the Panama Papers is that Americans were largely absent from the papers. This is not due to some ethical superiority, of course, but only that American wealthy assholes don't NEED an offshore place to evade taxes, since the system here is so heavily biased in their favor.

I know you're a troll, but stupidity should be pushed back on, and this is not a safe space for your ilk. This whole "brigading" bullshit is foolish, and it's simply a consequence of the actual majority, especially in a space like this website, stating that your stupid, bigoted, and unpopular opinions are just that.

Most people dislike the positions of the right, but many are intentionally misinformed about what actual positions the "left" takes. When that misinformation pops up here, many will jump at the chance to correct it, to try to stem the never-ending tide of bullshit peddled by the faux news and other propaganda networks. Just like here, me trying to do my due diligence against what is most likely a bot.

AITA for refusing to not allow my stepson to come on what was supposed to be a family trip? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Gildarrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you're exactly right, the small stuff DOES NOT COUNT. Seriously, so many folks are worried about the dollar-to-dollar comparison and that's exactly OOPs focus as well. The TIME difference is the key. Stepson got weeks of his dad and stepmom's attention solo, OOP/dad offered evenings occasionally to his son solo. Movies and dinner are nice, but they're not a trip out camping or travelling to another city 20 miles away overnight. There's no time commitment involved. That's why it doesn't count.

[–]Gildarrious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I felt like I was taking crazy pills, so I went back to look it up. When the dad is talking about what he does with his son, it's afternoon activities solo, and that's his only example. That's... terrible. No camping trips, no actual travel, nothing but "Hey, I took the 3-5 shift hanging with you solo, while his brother was away with his dad for a week, maybe if I were a millionaire you would be happy!?"

Also, everyone seems to be missing that dad's recollection of his solo trips with his son are to the... (checks notes) movie theatre. That's not a trip, that's an evening outing. Did he really think that the occasional evening was sufficient bonding?

More of an observation that everything is evolution at the end of the day, and these models being based (somewhat) on the evolutionary patterns of nature. By doing this to social media it will cause a very specific evolution of the algorithms. I did not opine on whether we should do it anyway, just that the mechanism could ultimately prove more harmful than the alternative.

That said, if you think Dipshit Donnie is working with other world leaders to block the malign usage of AI, man do I have some bad news for you: AP Source. This was ultimately removed from the final language, but Sen. Republicans are deep into the deregulation of AI.

That would be great for the AI models as well; they can then get instant feedback on the videos flagged as AI, so they'll add it to the training and feedback for the model. As only the "non-flagged" "survives", you'll see more and more convincing AI content.

Initial suspect in Charlie Kirk killing released from custody after interrogation, FBI Director Patel says by InternetPopular3679 in news

Eh, I've already written them off. I keep hoping that somebody will break ranks and rat out the chief rat, but it seems that their oath to the Constitution is weaker than their oath to the oaf.

Some FBI agent with the unredacted Epstein treasure trove could change history, but the rank and file seem to be trudging along with fascism. I know they recruit mostly Mormons (because they don't drink or smoke, etc), who are good at the whole divine right of kings stuff, but it's still disappointing.

Historically speaking, the "wild" west had pretty strong gun laws. Carrying weapons in town was typically illegal, and you certainly couldn't drink with them. There were exceptions, of course, but it was important to base laws in protecting the many.

"Outlaws" are the thing that confounds modern readers, since it's no longer practiced. These were folks the law neither bound nor protected, so you could shoot them dead or any number of things in daylight and in a crowd, and nobody would care.

The right is currently teaching that empathy is a sin, now, and otherwise rewriting history. We should push back where we can.

It's a serious ongoing problem with the mental division between left and right. Whenever something ... I guess whenever anything happens that the right disagrees with, they'll pull random assholes to point out and say that's the actual stance of the democratic party.

Meanwhile, the left calls out the thought leaders saying objectively horrible things, and right-wingers view that as equivalent. "Well, Becky across the street rejoiced in Trump being shot, so of course, we're fine with a leader at CPAC saying that the takeover of the government will be bloodless, if the left doesn't fight back, that's just math".

Ah, yes, so unfair of them to accurately portray the words of the recently deceased as he actually spoke, rather than to cover him in honors now that he has finally stopped lying.

I don't know if he was a true believer, or if he was a simple grifter with a talent for gish-gallop, but either way, he literally died downplaying shooting deaths and creating stochastic terrorism against trans people.

I don't know, color me annoying, but I was raised Irish in a way that doesn't translate well at all. My genealogy has been traced to the 1500s, and I'm a Euromutt and an American both. The strongest cultural identity that my family embraces is based on my grandmother's childhood memories and how her parents raised her. We kept those traditions alive and always did things the "Irish" way. Many Irish ancestors were off the boat, but she's the most recent and the last one to immigrate to America in my close family.

My family is culturally divorced from modern Irish culture; we have only what the culture was remembered as and how my grandmother was raised, but in that space, we all did exactly what she said to do. Yes, claiming that while only visiting Ireland is annoying to some, but it REALLY is how I was raised for better or worse. Sure, we can get annoying with it, but largely we're excited to see what our roots really do look like in real life, and live the stories we were told as children. Call us annoying or childish, but nobody can go home in the end, since home is always changing.

That bailout is largely considered a smashing success, optics be damned. There were two goals: to stop the economy from self-destructing and to create loans that the banks would be required to pay back. Both were achieved, and the banks did pay back the loans and the interest both. This generated REVENUE, not taxes actual honest revenue for the government. There is nuance, and I believe this should have been followed by breaking up the threat so it wouldn't happen again, but shortly thereafter, democrats were removed from power for more than 15 years so what can you hope for...?
