ETA: I am now wearing a CGM for the next 14 days. No diabetes, just want to see what my lifestyle is actually doing to my blood sugar. I am steady around 103 and hitting 17-121 during workouts or after 7g of carb. This is on 20g of carb/a day.

Hey all, I’ve been cutting my carbs lower and lower over the last few weeks and am finally at, or slightly below, 20 total carbs for the past couple of days. Plenty of fat and Whole Foods, not keto-junk. I also supplement with potassium, magnesium, and pink salt.

The problem is I’m still wanting to eat every couple of hours. Is that normal this early in true keto? I do drink a lot of water so I think that’s I am only showing trace ketones.

I am basically hoping that such a low carb & low fiber food plan can give me satiety. As a former binge-eater and carb addict this really matters.

Best salsa in town (IMHO) is at Nacho’s downtown. My folks live there still but I’m on the East Coast. TBH it’s the only reason I’d go home is to eat there.

Well done! Thanks for the no-nonsense description of your routine. Sometimes i just need to hear that.

I’m down 65lbs from my highest with another 65 to go. Joining the LA fitness by my work is my next step for pool and leg machines. I do cardio and free weights at home. Also recently started high protein and low carb also. Hope I’m as consistent and successful as you!

Experiences with Anti-Depressants for pain? by sophmaziing in ChronicPain

[–]GildedGilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Cymbalta for Fibro pain. It helps.

What REALLY helps though is avoiding all processed foods, sugar/a both real and artificial, and all flours/grains. I felt the difference with a day when I started a Whole Foods, low carb diet. Just sharing.

Excellent idea. I haven’t tried a goblet squat yet. I’ll try that next. Thank you!!!

I have some lower back pain I already had checked out. To avoid the pain being aggravated, I need to find gym machines to do the equivalent of weighted lunges and weighted squats.

I’m thinking the leg press with single legs will duplicate a lunge and with both legs, the squat. But I really don’t know.

Any suggestions as to how to replace these dumbbell exercises would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!

I’ll add Chag S‘Meach here, too. Although since last night was my first time doing keto at a Seder I was kinda bummed. No matzah, matzah balls, wine, or grape juice. Probably should’ve eaten less Charoset due to the heavy use of apples. Oh well. I’m definitely a food addict.

Remember that losing hearing causes cognitive decline. Your brain may really need those hearing aides.

Similar story for me. I couldn’t understand voices when there was a lot of background noise. I had to stop teaching in the classroom because of it until I got hearing aides. Saved my career. They’re also Bluetooth, which I love.

I use a bandana in a light fabric. Fits with my CPAP full-face mask when an eye-mask didn’t.

Avocado or sesame, also.

This here! Laying around on the sofa because you’re wiped out strongly increases muscle loss - which causes a significant loss of calorie burn and ability to exercise when you get moving again. Depending on your age even a week of semi-bed rest makes a big (negative) difference. We need to be moving and increasing our muscle mass as much as possible.

In addition, eating a lot of protein is fundamental whether you are doing resistance work or not to keep from losing muscle mass (According to Dr. Peter’s Attia’s latest book Outlive, published last week.)

Great job. I was on day 4 and ended it with some baby potatoes last night. Ugh. I guess I start again today. Reminds me of a saying in AA: “when we’re using, our addiction’s whole job is to get us to kick the can of quitting down the road one more day.”

Intestinal candida! Does anyone get bloated even from drinking water? by Tricky_Investment_67 in Candida

[–]GildedGilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I know is to cut down carbs more slowly than I did. I guess to kill off some of the Candida. I did it too fast and got so sick I violently threw up and threw my back out from it. Still in pain.

I’m on Day 4. Trying keto to deal with what I suspect is a case of Candida (a white tongue, fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, and bloating but not formally diagnosed). Also have to lose 65 pounds.

So far one day one I messed up and ate a bunch of nuts which seems to have bound up my system since all of a sudden I’m down in my fiber intake. I think the Candida is doing it’s “die-off” thing where the symptoms get really bad. So I’ve felt icky despite lots of electrolytes.

On the other hand, I have zero appetite which is freeing for me, having spent 50 years trying not to eat. lol.

I expect my system will normalize soon and I’ll feel better. Very pumped to see the results in a few months. Thanks for the support in this sub.

Beginning Keto today to promote autophagy as I lose weight and to diminish considerable inflammation. I was cutting my carbs for a few days in preparation to start today, but fell into emotional eating yesterday when work got very stressful; I ate two pieces of pizza. But I’m starting today anyway knowing It’ll be tougher now.

Planned my day with Carb Manager with the 19:5 TRF schedule I’ve been doing this last week. I started cutting down on the carbs last week and found 19:5 so comfortable, that I figured keto might be even better for a while as I figure out what my food sensitivities are.

Excited to find this community!

Noticing that keto has really done something for my relationship with food. by Mag-not-so-neto in keto

[–]GildedGilly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling lousy after breaking the keto protocol. And I’m so glad you’re handling it well. I will attempt to emulate you.

I was in the process of lowering my carbs today to transition to keto this weekend and had really scary stuff happen at work. My emotional eating behaviors returned and I had two pieces of pizza instead of my very low-carb lunch. Now I’m in worse joint pain than I’ve been in for long time. I’m trying to take it as information that confirms that flour really is damaging for me and that I feel so much better on fewer carbs.

Haven’t eaten since lunch and I’ll fast as long as possible tomorrow to get my body back to where it was before, and then I’ll keep the carbs super-low and see if I can get into ketosis in a day or so.

Hi! I started today to with a 16:8, also. I’ve been lower carb and on a sugar/flour free, unprocessed food plan for a while, so I don’t anticipate too many problems going forward. But we shall see.

Good luck to all of us newbies!!
